Convicted Anti-Nuclear Activists Speak Out: “Pentagon Has Brainwashed People”

December 15, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

Courageous nonviolent activists keep risking arrest and prison in order to put their bodies on the line to witness against nuclear weapons.  This happens in various parts of our nation, including the Trident nuclear submarine base in Kitsap County WA and at the Trident base at Kings Bay GA. The federal court system’s procedures are always rigged by prosecutors and judges to prevent defendants from making an effective defense about the dangers of nuclear weapons, international law, and the “necessity defense.” People with any strong feelings about nuclear weapons are excluded from serving on the jury.  At a recent trial […]

Non-profit orgs provides resources and truly smart proposals for a peaceful U.S. foreign policy

December 15, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

For four years Trump made the U.S.’s cruel, violent, counter-productive foreign policy even worse.  Joe Biden will most likely retreat from some of Trump’s worst foreign policy blunders, but Biden has a decades-long track record of supporting wars and recklessly cruel, unjust foreign policies and unnecessary military weapons. Therefore, returning from Trumpism to “normal” is NOT ENOUGH!  We need a TRULY PEACEFUL foreign policy, not “American Exceptionalism” and what Senator William Fulbright called “the arrogance of Power.”  We must replace the threats of violence, the actual wars, the bloated budgets, and the contempt for international law that have defined U.S. […]

Afghanistan articles from July to December 2020

December 15, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

On October 7, 2020, the U.S. marked the 19th year of our ENDLESS, UNWINNABLE WAR in Afghanistan.  This news was released on October 9, 2020: This Wednesday marked 19 years since the start of the U.S. war in Afghanistan — that’s 19 years of drone bombings, 19 years of civilian “casualties,” 19 years of death, destruction, and displacement. Since the invasion, over $2 trillion have been needlessly spent, 3.7 million people have been displaced, and 2,000 U.S. servicemembers, 4,000 U.S. contractors, and over 43,000 civilians have been killed. What does the United States have to show for this? Warlords profit from […]

Biden should take these steps for peace.

December 15, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

The U.S.’s foreign policy has been provoking people into becoming terrorists.  We need to push Biden into boldly changing that persistent pattern.  If the Biden administration really wants to stop fueling chaos and terrorism in the world, it must radically transform the CIA.  https://www.nationofchange.org/2020/12/14/will-bidens-america-stop-creating-terrorists/   Sign petition urging Biden to End Trump’s Coercive Measures Against the International Criminal Court: The International Criminal Court has been investigating the actions of all parties to the war in Afghanistan and potentially investigating Israel’s actions in Palestine.  Trump has always refused to be held accountable for his crimes and other mistakes.  This is consistent with the U.S. […]

The American people want peace, but Biden seems likely to continue excessive militarism and stupid wars

December 15, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

This article says the Pentagon budget is too huge. It urges Biden to cut it:  https://www.juancole.com/2020/11/pentagon-couldnt-pandemic.html   If President Biden is Smart, He’ll End America’s Forever Wars and Pour the Money into Jobs at Home:  https://www.juancole.com/2020/11/president-americas-forever.html   Joe Biden plans to appoint a board member of a giant military weapons manufacturer to be Secretary of Defense!  Biden, who has a long history as a supporter of wars and big business, is reportedly planning to appoint a member of one of the U.S.’s biggest corporations manufacturing military weapons to be Secretary of Defense.  We need to “drain the swamp,” not make it swampier, as Trump […]

This video — shorter than 3 minutes — explains the President’s SOLE AUTHORITY to start a nuclear war

December 15, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

The non-profit organization Global Zero (www.globalzero.org) has solid information and does good work.  They produced this easy-to-understand video – shorter than 3 minutes long – to explain how EASY it is for any President to start a nuclear war ON HIS SOLE AUTHORITY with NO “checks and balances.” Trump is vigorously destroying as much as he can before he is forced to leave office, so launching a nuclear weapon is possible.  But Joe Biden has a decades-long track record in Congress of supporting wars, including supporting the stupid, unnecessary wars that have occurred in the decades he served in Congress […]

Here’s what to expect from President Biden regarding nuclear weapons

December 15, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

On November 9, 2020, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (www.thebulletin.org) posted the article I linked below. The article begins by saying that in just four years “Donald Trump singlehandedly destroyed decades worth of hard work done by previous US administrations in establishing trust, confidence, and diplomacy—on nuclear and non-nuclear issues—among both friends and foes.” The article lists a number of ways in which Trump seriously escalated the dangers of nuclear weapons.  The article urges Biden to reverse those serious mistakes and to take several positive steps toward sanity and safety.  The article is relatively brief and easy to understand.  Here […]

“How to Deal With the U.S.’s Current Crises”

December 14, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

“How to Deal With the U.S.’s Current Crises” October 2020 Our nation is suffering from several extremely serious problems all at once.  The crises are deeply rooted and actually go beyond individual elected officials and political parties.  Problems include the COVID-19 pandemic, economic injustices, homelessness, excessive military spending, racial injustices, the criminal justice system, unfairness to immigration, right-wing extremism, the climate crisis, nuclear weapons, and Trumpism. Instead of merely lamenting “ain’t-it-awful,” three guests (Jean Gant Delastrada, Liz Moore, and Glen Gersmehl) provide smart insights into those problems and lift up some positive values that can help us solve them.  We […]

Trump’s contempt for truth and his war against science are serious problems.

December 9, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

In mid-August 2018, Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani said on public TV, “truth isn’t truth.” Fact-checkers have identified more than 20,000 lies and serious misrepresentations that Trump has told during his presidential campaign and 4-year term. On several occasions Trump publicly denied having said things that he had said in public — on video — in front of witnesses and the general public. Trump has wiped scientific facts off from federal government websites in order to protect his lies about the climate and other matters from being contradicted by published scientific information. He has silenced — and fired — people who […]

Sometimes the U.S. acts like a “rogue state.” What if the world treated the U.S. like one?

December 9, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

The U.S. often imposes sanctions and other penalties against nations that the U.S. government does not like. Sometimes the U.S. itself acts like a “rogue state.” What if the world treated the U.S. like a “rogue state,” imposed sanctions against our nation, etc.? International Declaration of Human Rights passed the U.N. General Assembly December 10, 1948

December 7, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

I’m posting this to my blog a few days before International Human Rights Day, December 10.  This day celebrates when the U.N. General Assembly passed the International Declaration on Human Rights on December 10, 1948.  It’s good to re-read the International Declaration on Human Rights every few years. Information and the text are at this link: https://www.un.org/en/universal-declaration-human-rights/ A .pdf with a simple, readable font is at this link: https://www.ohchr.org/EN/UDHR/Documents/UDHR_Translations/eng.pdf Thanks to Eleanor Roosevelt who had worked skillfully to create and pass this landmark document. Bonus questions:  (1) How many of these internationally recognized human rights has the U.S. (and/or states […]

November 26, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

The December 2020 interview on “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV series (also watchable on your computer) will remain very timely long after it airs on cable TV in Thurston County WA.  Our nation is sharply polarized regarding politics and public policy issues.  Many Americans recognize that we must heal the extreme polarization that is tearing our country apart.  Three guests share their insights and remedies so all of us can help to de-polarize our nation. Thurston County’s people with cable TV can watch it 14 times throughout December (Mondays 1:30 pm, Wednesdays 5:00 pm, and Thursdays 9:00 pm) on channel 22.  […]

Let’s recognize November 11’s original meaning as ARMISTICE DAY, a day of peace

November 20, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

November 11 became a holiday because it was the day when World War I ended in 1918 with an armistice.  It was called “Armistice Day,” a holiday DEDICATED TO SUPPORTING PEACE. Later it got hijacked into a day to CELEBRATE WAR in the guise of celebrating military veterans.  But the subtext is really intended to glorify war. It’s OK to recognize veterans, but the emphasis on people who have worked in the military seems disproportionate, when many other kinds of workers — health care workers, teachers, artists, social service workers, etc. — do useful work and deserve appreciation too. My brother […]
