How the Vietnam War pushed MLK to embrace global justice, not only civil rights at home

January 13, 2024 GlenAnderson 0

How the Vietnam War pushed MLK to embrace global justice, not only civil rights at home It is a radical concept of love that demands we embrace those we know and those we don’t, to acknowledge, as King said, “that all life is interrelated, that somehow we’re caught in an inescapable network of mutuality tied in a single garment of destiny.” https://www.nationofchange.org/2022/01/13/how-the-vietnam-war-pushed-mlk-to-embrace-global-justice-not-only-civil-rights-at-home/

Henry Kissinger persistently promoted violence, opposed human rights, committed war crimes

December 3, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

For decades the U.S. government — and compliant mainstream news media — pretended that Henry Kissinger was a great diplomat, when actually he was the opposite.  He PERSISTENTLY promoted violence, opposed human rights, and committed war crimes. Now after he died on Nov. 29, 2023, at the age of 100, some people are reporting the truth about him.   Henry Kissinger, America’s Most Notorious War Criminal, Dies At 100.  The titan of American foreign policy was complicit in millions of deaths — and never showed remorse for his decisions. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/henry-kissinger-dies_n_6376933ae4b0afce046cb44f?email_hash=d82661dbaf9d922be74896a49d247c55ffc55d54 Henry Kissinger was a war criminal:  https://www.rawstory.com/henry-kissinger-war-criminal/ This article summarizes […]

Martin Luther King, Jr., said these things about various issues

January 8, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

When people refer to MLK as the “Reverend Dr.,” they are recognizing that he did indeed earn a Ph.D. in philosophy in addition to completing formal theological studies and being ordained.  He thought clearly and wisely.  Below I’m sharing with you some things he said about several different issues — and always grounded in humane ethics.     On April 4, 1967, King spoke about the Vietnam war and overall U.S. foreign policy to an audience at Riverside Church in New York City.  Many of the things he said there have been quoted widely.  He explicitly denounced the injustices and […]

Martin Luther King spoke strongly against the Vietnam war — and U.S. foreign policy — on April 4, 1967

January 3, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

In January 2022, Glen Anderson spoke on the radio about Martin Luther King’s “Beyond Vietnam” speech from April 4, 1967.  Several persons who heard this radio interview on Thursday told Glen that they liked it very much. You can listen to the radio broadcast at this link:  Parallel U 1-20-22.mp3 This was on Kim Dobson’s interesting weekly radio series, Parallel University.  It airs at 12 noon every Thursday on KAOS FM, 89.3.

Vietnam War: Here are a few interesting resources.

November 22, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

One of Martin Luther King’s most powerful and insightful speeches exposed the cruelty and stupidity of the U.S.’s war in Vietnam.  His “Beyond Vietnam” speech on April 4, 1967 (exactly one year before he was murdered) put the war in the context of the U.S.’s long-standing foreign policy — and also in the context of the U.S.’s failure to provide real democracy for African Americans in our nation, even while our government falsely claimed that we were creating democracy in Vietnam.  The speech was very, very controversial at the time because many people did not yet understand the connections. Every […]

Stop hypocrisy! Condemn Russia’s war and ALSO the U.S.’s MANY wars that are even worse!

March 28, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

Certainly the civilized world is right in condemning Russia’s war against Ukraine.  It is illegal under international law.  It is cruel, murderous, destructive and oppressive. So also are the wars the U.S. has conducted in Vietnam, Central America, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and many other nations. The U.S. wars are even worse because we actually did invade massively, conduct massive bombings, overthrow governments, install puppet governments, and oppress the populations in many ways. Russia’s war on Ukraine is scarcely one month old.  The U.S. started its war in Vietnam in the early 1950s (helping France reclaim its colony after World War […]

Vietnam — What most people don’t know — And similarities to Afghanistan

September 25, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

When the U.S. was in the process of losing its 20-year war in Afghanistan – one of the poorest nations on earth – I kept thinking of similarities with the U.S.’s ongoing cruelty and violence and war crimes in Vietnam from the 1940s to 1975.  (Vietnam also was a very poor nation, but Vietnam’s people defeated the world’s most powerful military decades before Afghanistan did that to the U.S.) Mainstream U.S. news media have a very long record of kowtowing to U.S. foreign policy instead of reporting critical and true information.  Most schools’ history classes run behind schedule in the […]

This clever diagram can help us strategize how to change to a peaceful foreign policy.

November 12, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

For a very long time the U.S. had a “War Department,” but we conducted very few foreign wars. In 1947 Congress changed it to the “Department of Defense,” and we have conducted many, many wars since then, including our 2-decades-long Endless War against “terrorism.” Sensible people want to replace the U.S.’s chronically aggressive and violently militaristic foreign policy. The diagram linked here can help us figure out strategies for doing that.  It is fun to bring a few friends together to work through this exercise together.  Also, it can be useful for you to work with it alone.  Creative insights […]

Nuclear power is NOT an alternative to fossil fuels. Here is why Vietnam REJECTED nuclear power.

August 9, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Some people who are concerned about the climate urge nuclear power as an alternative. However, that is not really practical for a number of reasons, including the 12 very compelling reasons in the document at the link below. Nuclear power is not only extremely dangerous and extremely expensive, but it entails huge costs and responsibilities that are usually ignored or downplayed in advance. Vietnam was considering nuclear power, but a delegation from other nations talked with them and presented 12 very compelling points listed in this article. With this information, Vietnam decided to REJECT nuclear power. Other nations and regions […]

“Soldiers’ Wounds: One Cost of War that Never Ends”

December 3, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

One of the recurring themes in the Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation’s TV series is that we are all interconnected. No matter what issue we address on one program or another, we find ourselves affirming our common humanity – across nations, across social and economic groups, and so forth. Olympia FOR’s TV program for April 2011 took a fresh look at people who are in the military on active duty – and veterans who have served in the military. While the peace movement opposes wars and our violent foreign policy, we recognize that the individuals who serve or have served in […]

TV: “Vietnam War: What REALLY Happened”

November 16, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

Fifty years ago the U.S. was massively escalating the war in Vietnam. Recently the Pentagon launched an expensive propaganda campaign to whitewash what really happened and to glorify the Vietnam War as a noble effort. The Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation’s May 2016 TV program counters that with truthful information that the Pentagon does not want you to know. Two guests – Larry Kerschner and Mark Fleming – help us explore this topic.  Both guests served in the U.S. army in Vietnam.  Both went back to Vietnam recently for peace-related purposes. Both are active with Veterans for Peace (VFP) and with […]
