The Perils of an “America First” Climate Policy

June 13, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

Trump kept pulling the U.S. out of treaties and international collaboration.  He wanted an egocentric “America First” policy that actually interfered with solving global problems. Now President Biden is doing somewhat better on some issues, but he appointed a great many war-hawks to powerful positions, and he keeps taking his advice to pursue militarism and nationalism instead of collaborating well as one nation among nearly 200 on Planet Earth.  A number of knowledgeable persons have said that Biden’s foreign policy is pretty much the same as Trump’s President Biden has promised action to protect the climate, but in order to […]

Myanmar’s coup — much info before and after — and insights into other issues

June 13, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

On February 1, 2021, the military of Myanmar (previously known as Burma) overthrew democracy and installed an extremely brutal military dictatorship.  The population has been protesting against that, so the military has been using extreme violence to suppress the resistance.  Most of the public’s resistance has been nonviolent, but — out of frustration — some people have been resorting to violence. Of course, this nation had been colonized by a European nation, so that background plays into the current crisis.  The nation exists in the context of other nations in that region.  Mainstream news media in the U.S. have been […]

Respect science. Base public policies on honest science. And envision more boldly than that too.

Trump’s war on science has hurt our nation and our public institutions:  https://truthout.org/articles/trumps-attacks-on-science-have-scarred-our-public-institutions/?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=abae6ed1-a9a4-41f5-a9d3-2d3f636cbbbe   Trump Officials Tried To ‘Cripple’ The CDC’s COVID-19 Response, House Panel Says.  Trump appointees sought to change reports “in a misguided effort to achieve herd immunity,” House investigators found.  SEE THIS:  https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-cdc-covid-19-response_n_5fe0d20dc5b60d416344a7d0?ncid=newsltushpmgpolitics   In 4 years Trump escalated his corruption over the CDC. Trump’s biases increasingly overruled scientists and medical professionals.  This article does not mention the urgent need for Biden to restore honest science instead of Trumpian corruption at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).  Trump corrupted EVERY federal agency.  Voters must demand that Biden […]

The “War on Terror” keeps provoking more violence and terrorism.

June 3, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

The “War on Terror” has provoked violent extremism in Africa:   https://fpif.org/u-s-counterterrorism-in-africa-has-failed-whats-the-alternative/?emci=74038a8b-dca2-eb11-85aa-0050f237abef&emdi=bb38c43a-8ea3-eb11-85aa-0050f237abef&ceid=3993183     Endless War Is A Feature of Our National Programming: On Pulling the Plug on the War Machine.  William J. Astore posted this on May 10, 2021:  https://www.juancole.com/2021/05/endless-national-programming.html     Biden is training an African military in “counter-insurgency” warfare:  The U.S. military has begun training Mozambican security forces to combat an insurgency in their country. It seems twenty years of failure of the military-first “counterterrorism” strategy won’t stop us from exporting it to others.  SEE THIS:  https://www.africanews.com/2021/03/15/us-forces-to-train-mozambique-s-marines-to-fight-jihadist-insurgency//     The U.S.’s “war on terror” slaughters innocent people.  […]

June 3, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

On June 16, Biden and Putin will hold their first summit.  For many years Russia has pledged NOT to use nuclear weapons first, but the U.S. has NEVER made such a pledge.  See the information here – and sign this petition – urging Biden and Putin to AGREE on a “NO FIRST USE” pledge:  https://mailchi.mp/baselpeaceoffice.org/invitation-to-endorse-a-no-first-use-appeal-to-presidents-biden-and-putin?e=dfcf1cbcd3   Many experts have been writing articles explaining how Biden’s foreign policy is largely indistinguishable from Trump’s.  Biden is supporting and funding many of the weapons – including NUCLEAR weapons – that Trump supported.  Please click to sign this message urging Biden to pledge “NO […]

Voters must push hard on Congress and President Biden to make the Pentagon accountable.

May 27, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

For many years the Pentagon – in violation of federal law – has NOT passed a real audit. The Pentagon keeps failing to be accountable to presidents or to Congress or to the taxpayers. Congress and presidents keep failing to hold the Pentagon accountable. Voters keep failing to hold Congress and presidents accountable. We need a strong grassroots movement.   We have known about this problem for many years.  Bernie Sanders is making a new push now.  See the article linked here. To ‘End the Absurdity’ of Wasteful Military Spending, Sanders Introduces Bill to Audit the Pentagon   Tell your […]

May 27, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

An Online Course on War and The Environment: Spreading Knowledge Builds Power   This course could not be more important. A culture of extraction and destruction is closely tied to a culture of war. This course will provide participants an opportunity to learn from, dialogue with, and strategize for change with experts from the bold peace organization World BEYOND War (www.worldbeyondwar.org) […]

A landmark court decision hurts Big Oil because Big Oil has failed to deal with the climate crisis.

May 27, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

A court decision in the Netherlands is a huge landmark. See these links to FOUR articles.   A judge holds Shell liable for causing climate change in historic vote: The Dutch ruling is being called a first of its kind and a big “step forward for the international climate movement.” See this short — but important — article by Ashley Curtin dated May 27, 2021: https://www.nationofchange.org/2021/05/27/a-judge-holds-shell-liable-for-causing-climate-change-in-historic-vote/ This article pertains to the Dutch court decision about Shell: The pathway to critical and formidable goal of net-zero emissions by 2050 is narrow but brings huge benefits, according to a special report by […]

New info on Trump’s attempt to hurt immigrants in the 2020 census

May 27, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

Evidence of Trump’s cruelty keeps popping up. This just came up about Trump’s attempt to deliberately undercount undocumented immigrants in the 2020 census. That would not only weaken their political presence, but it would also hurt the communities where they live. The U.S. Constitution REQUIRES an ACCURATE census of ALL persons living in the U.S.  Trump’s perversion is unconstitutional. See this:  https://campaignlegal.org/update/clc-reveals-internal-trump-administration-strategies-exclude-immigrants-census   Now here is an irony:  Ironically, Trump’s inaccurate census might have actually hurt Republicans. See this:  https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2021/4/29/2028069/-Many-are-wondering-if-Trump-botched-the-Census-It-would-be-perfectly-on-brand?detail=emaildkre

The June 2021 interview on “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV series helps you understand the problems in U.S. foreign policy and some bold ways to solve those problems and support peace and justice worldwide. Two guests explored the problems and solutions: John Feffer is a Project Director working on a variety of foreign policy issues at the Institute for Policy Studies, an exceptionally savvy non-profit organization based in Washington DC. Their website is ips-dc.org.  I enjoyed reading his writings for a long time, even before I recruited him to be a guest for this interview. Metta Spencer is a retired professor […]
