In January, urge Congress to pass HR 1 to get Big Money out of politics.

December 20, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

You have probably read information supporting HR 1, legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives that would push Big Money out of politics.  Many non-profit organizations that support democracy and other good things (environment, energy, peace, nuclear weapons, workers’ rights, human rights, the gun lobby, etc.) recognize that BIG MONEY CORRUPTION PREVENTS CONGRESS FROM ACCOMPLISHING WHAT WE WANT IT TO DO. HR 1 is a tremendously positive step forward for ALL of the issues we care about! Public Citizen (www.citizen.org), the non-profit org that Ralph Nader started in 1971, says the following in support of HR 1, and urges people […]

Why the U.S. House must push for VERY BOLD changes, not merely bi-partisan deals

December 19, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

In the November 2018 election American voters gave a STRONG MANDATE for VERY PROGRESSIVE ACTION by the U.S. House.  Our Representatives must deliver!!! Moderates want House Democrats to settle for bi-partisan deals with the Republican-dominated Senate. If the House Democrats do that, they will be rebuffing the voters who gave them a mandate for VERY BOLD changes. They also will FAIL TO IDENTIFY how progressive Democrats are much better than conservative Republicans. Even if the Senate fails to pass VERY BOLD House legislation, the points will be made, and 2020’s voters will see who is really on their side, vs. […]

De-militarize the federal budget!! Once again a huge portion of the Pentagon can’t complete an independent audit.

December 17, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

https://www.pogo.org/investigation/2018/10/massive-pentagon-agency-cant-complete-audit-again/?utm_source=weekly-reader&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=wr-181215&utm_content=header Decent people must DEMAND that Congress stop throwing more and more money into the Pentagon! The U.S. has many problems that need federal funding, but the Congress prevents solving those problems because Congress siphons off enormous amounts of our tax dollars and gives them to the Pentagon, which CANNOT COMPLETE AN INDEPENDENT AUDIT. The U.S. keeps escalating its unwinnable wars, but – instead of holding the Pentagon accountable for its failures – Congress rewards it with more money. Actually, the Pentagon does NOT want to win those wars, because then its budget – and its political power – would […]

PART 2 of “Choose a Better Worldview to Build a Better World”

November 30, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Our nation and world are in a horrible mess.  The December 2018 episode of “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV series examines how to solve the problems. A person or an entire society has a “worldview” — a way of seeing reality — that strongly directs their behavior and public policy.  The worldview that currently dominates the U.S. government and society has caused escalating greed, corruption, cruelty, oppression, war, and other bad things.  Instead, we need to replace that worldview with its opposite — a worldview that is humane, compassionate, peaceful, fair to everyone, and environmentally sustainable. An unjust society seeks to […]

A blistering critique of U.S. politics! PART 1: “Choose a Better Worldview to Build a Better World”

October 30, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

You can watch the November 2018 episode of the TV program for my series “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” through a link on this blog post — or on TCTV cable channel 22 in Thurston County. (See info below.) This is PART 1 of a 2-part topic, “Choose a Better Worldview to Build a Better World.” It focuses mostly on the problems. PART 2, the December 2018 program, will focus more on solutions. SEE THE LINK BELOW for a VERY THOROUGH, BLISTERING CRITIQUE of the worldview that has increasingly dominated U.S. politics. Parts 1 and 2 of this program explains that the […]

Kick billionaires off welfare!

October 12, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders introduced legislation that deserves our support.  It would require big profitable businesses to EITHER pay their workers a living wage OR pay for the public assistance (welfare, food stamps, public housing, government-funded medical care, etc.) that the employees need. Bernie Sanders named the bill after the richest man in the history of the world, Jeff Bezos (worth $158 BILLION with wealth increasing by $260 MILLION every day).  Sanders calls his bill the  Stop Bad Employers by Zeroing Out Subsidies (BEZOS) Act. Jeff Bezos is on welfare!  Ordinary people are subsidizing him by making up the difference […]

Voters view CORRUPTION as the most important issue. Write letters to editors in Republican communities.

September 9, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Voters are angry! Some issues become more prominent, while others drift downward. Trump has been promoting CORRUPTION throughout his administration, and Republicans have become the party of corruption nationwide.  In order to save our nation, we must alert and mobilize voters to reject the corrupt politicians. Current research shows that CORRUPTION is a MAJOR CONCERN among voters. Now — before the Nov. 6 election — is a good time for people to raise this issue, use the Republicans’ corruption against them, and write letters to editors (especially in communities that could shift from Republican to Democratic). This article provides information: […]

Congress should kick BILLIONAIRES off welfare!

September 9, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has introduced legislation that would hold billionaires accountable for the extremely low wages they pay their employees. Currently, some of the biggest, most profitable businesses pay their employees so little that the employees must apply for welfare, food stamps, government-funded medical care, public housing, etc.  Conservatives blame people for getting “welfare,” but actually our political/economic system allows these giant corporations to get “welfare.”  TAXPAYERS ARE SUBSIDIZING THESE ABUSIVE BUSINESSES. Bernie Sanders’ legislation is named after Jeff Bezos, the richest man in the history of the world.  His assets total $158 BILLION, and his wealth increases by […]

Insights and information about taxes, with a few links

June 3, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Taxes are opposed by conservatives who want to keep their riches instead of sharing their money with governmental efforts to help people with education, health, etc. But liberals and progressives also criticize our tax system because it is unfair.  Rich people and big corporations get so many loopholes and breaks that they pay less than their fair share.  Poor, working class and middle class people pay more than their share. Actually, we should see taxes as the dues we pay for living in a civilized society.  That is the ideal.  We need to fully fund the governmental services that help […]

9 Ways Authoritarianism Is Taking Hold Under Trump

May 31, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

As you know, I read a huge amount of information.  Thom Hartmann’s article at the link below consolidates much solid information into CRUCIALLY IMPORTANT information that the American people need to understand. Trump and Trumpism are imposing horrible authoritarianism upon the U.S.  This is an extremely serious — actually existential — danger to American freedom and constitutional democracy. Trump’s authoritarianism abuses many aspects of American society. The article below connects many of the issues we care about, including peace, social justice, environment/climate, economics, and so forth.  The article ends with a call for nonviolent organizing to rise up against Trump’s […]

An 11-point Agenda for America’s Economic Future

May 23, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Progressives spend much time protesting what we oppose. We should spend much more time organizing to accomplish what we want instead. Here is a good example for progressive economic and social justice: See the 11-point Agenda for America’s Economic Future at this link: http://campaignforamericasfuture.org/?link_id=4&can_id=1d662460c0abb8939c5044c82927552b&source=email-pledge-news-hightower-lowdown-pledge-issue&email_referrer=email_358386&email_subject=pledge-news-hightower-lowdown-pledge-issue Read Jim Hightower’s supportive article about the Agenda for America’s Economic Future at this link: https://hightowerlowdown.org/article/economic-agenda/?link_id=0&can_id=1d662460c0abb8939c5044c82927552b&source=email-pledge-news-hightower-lowdown-pledge-issue&email_referrer=email_358386&email_subject=pledge-news-hightower-lowdown-pledge-issue

Bold Economic Strategy to Create Jobs, Fund Infrastructure & Health & Climate, etc.

April 29, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Our nation needs many expensive remedies, including jobs, education, health, infrastructure, protection for our environment and climate, etc. Politicians keep saying we can’t afford them.  They are WRONG because they are trapped in the conventional misunderstandings about economics, the federal budget, etc.  They assume that taxes are the starting point, and we can’t increase taxes. Actually, the starting point is CREDIT.  Banks create money out of thin air by issuing loans with promises that the loans will be repaid later.  The federal government already has the authority to increase spending through a method that is more bold than mere Keynesianism.  […]

A minister, a priest and a rabbi walked into a bar …

April 5, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

You’ve heard jokes that start with this line:  “A minister, a priest and a rabbi walked into a bar ….” How about this? They walked in and asked the customers whether they wanted to make their own decisions about which religious bodies (if any) to financially support, or whether they wanted Big Government to take their tax dollars and — instead of funding public schools that treat everyone fairly — spend their tax dollars to fund schools owned and operated by religions they did not agree with, so those religions could indoctrinate school children in their religious dogmas. Of course, […]

“Create a Publicly Owned Washington State Bank”

December 3, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

Serious problems require bold, creative solutions!  The Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation’s January 2011 TV interview explores a creative solution to help our state’s economy. Even during hard financial times, a lot of money flows through the state government. Property tax payments, sales tax revenue, payroll taxes, fees for licenses, and other revenues arrive at various times. From time to time the state pays out this money for salaries, equipment, supplies, rent, payments to local governments, and so forth. What happens to the money while the state has it? The state deposits most of it with the big Wall Street banks […]

“A Nonviolent Society for the Common Good”

December 3, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

In recent years American society has experienced a serious upsurge of anti-government rhetoric, including threats of violence against members of Congress – and in January 2011 an actual shooting. We have seen a continuation of war, torture and human rights abuses by our government, cutbacks in vital social and health services, a mania for privatizing public services, intolerance of minority races and religions, and an overall breakdown in the sense of our common humanity. Are these interconnected?  Do they have common roots? Can we find solutions that will resolve these problems and restore our public ethics and our common humanity? […]
