Trump wants to start WAR against Iran. Here are some info resources.

April 1, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Trump’s recent actions show he is gearing up to START A WAR against Iran. Appointing John Bolton to be Trump’s national security advisor has alarmed a great many people. Bolton is an extremely dangerous person who pushes for more wars. His lies helped George W. Bush start his horrible war against Iraq. I will be posting information to my blog – http://www.parallaxperspectives.org – so you can learn more. My blog has a section on Iran. You might want to read several items there, including this recent post: http://parallaxperspectives.org/prevent-trumps-war-against-iran You can also watch my interview with two Iranian-Americans at the time […]

Korea’s People — Both North and South — Want Peace

March 3, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Unlike many nations that are comprised of several ethnic groups, Korea’s people — both North and South — are all the same:  They are Koreans.  One ethnic group.  The arbitrary line that divided their nation in the early 1950s has absolutely no basis in ethnicity or culture or geography or any other understandable justification.  It was imposed upon them to provide a temporary division related to the Korean War from the early 1950s. The Korean War never ended.  We’ve had a cease-fire but no formal peace treaty. The Korean people — both North and South — have family members on […]

Prevent Trump’s war against Iran

March 3, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Decent people must prevent Trump from starting a totally unnecessary war against Iran. Obama helped the U.S., France, Germany, United Kingdom, Russia, China and Iran use diplomacy to create a deal that stopped Iran’s nuclear weapons program. This Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has been working very well. The only people who oppose the JCPOA are Trump and hawks who have always wanted war against Iran. George W. Bush lied and falsely claimed that Iraq was building certain weapons. Bush rejected diplomacy in order to start his war against Iraq in 2003 – a war we are still fighting. […]

Norway and Sweden have more humane criminal justice systems

February 25, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

The U.S. has a very harsh (and ineffective) criminal justice system, compared to other modern nations.  Here is some information about Norway and Sweden that I saved from a few years ago: Norway’s prisons are much better than the U.S.’s.  Instead of dehumanizing their inmates, they help prisoners retain their human dignity, so they will become better able to reenter society.  http://www.alternet.org/drugs/michael-moore-norway-prison-tony-papa-sentence?akid=13995.2186.s12ezx&rd=1&src=newsletter1051042&t=10 In 2013 Sweden acted sensibly to reduce prison populations.  They accomplished this for several reasons including reducing sentence length and emphasizing rehabilitation.  http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2013/11/12-0 I would like to see ordinary Americans (including taxpayers and conservatives) confront elected officials and […]

U.S.’s violent foreign policy leads to gun violence WITHIN the U.S.

February 25, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

We keep seeing how ALL ISSUES are INTER-CONNECTED. Among the reasons why the U.S. has so much gun violence is that the U.S. government sets a bad example with our violent militaristic foreign policy. On July 9 2016, I wrote about how President Obama was in Poland meeting with heads of NATO nations and expanding NATO provocatively to Russia’s borders and expanding NATO’s militarism into other part of the Eastern Hemisphere and pushing NATO’s member nations to spend more on militarism. During his press conference there during that visit, Obama praised those military escalations and at the same time he […]

We must DEBUNK “the Myth of Redemptive Violence.”

February 24, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

U.S. culture has long perpetuated what has been called “The Myth of Redemptive Violence.” Look at the plots of movies about the Wild West, about cops & robbers, about spies, etc. Nearly every movie ends with a big shoot-out in which “the good guys” use violence to defeat “the bad guys.” The U.S. assumes that our military is “the good guys” and we can use violence to defeat “the bad guys” just like in the movies. The problem is that reality does not work that way. The U.S. LOST the wars in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq. Violence is also PROFOUNDLY […]

Military “solutions” are really the problem!

February 24, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Military “solutions” are really the problem! Instead of solving problems, military violence actually makes problems worse! It causes more threats to us and weakens our national security! Military violence provokes more people to want to attack the U.S.! Militarism creates new enemies faster than we can kill them. Militarism is a “domino theory” in reverse: the U.S. keeps spreading chaos into more and more countries. Sometimes high-level reports from the Pentagon and CIA conclude that militarism is doing this. (Indeed, the term “blowback” came from the CIA before Chalmers Johnson wrote a great book by that title.) Since 9-11-2001 the […]

Trump’s 2018 “Nuclear Posture Review” document is reckless and frightening!

February 24, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

See links to articles about Trump’s 2018 “Nuclear Posture Review” document at the end of this information about it: On February 2, 2018, the Trump Administration released its Nuclear Posture Review (NPR), which lays out how the Trump Administration and its Pentagon (which wrote the document for Trump) understand the role of nuclear weapons. Previous Nuclear Posture Reviews were issued in 2010, 2002, and 1994. Trump’s 2018 NPR does significantly change U.S. policy regarding nuclear weapons. A significant break from Obama’s NPR (which stated that the U.S. would not use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear countries that had signed the Non-Proliferation […]

Both parties in Congress lavishly funded the Pentagon in CURRENT YEAR’s budget

February 24, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Today I posted to this blog’s “Military Spending” category some information about Trump’s proposal for the Fiscal Year 2019 budget.  But Congress has been so dysfunctional that they were very late in finishing the decisions about the CURRENT YEAR’s budget. BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES have lavishly funded the Pentagon and military violence. See this article:  https://inkstickmedia.com/congress-went-bigly-budget/

Trump’s federal budget proposal urges more military violence, less diplomacy

February 24, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

The U.S.’s horribly violent foreign policy has long had bi-partisan support.  No matter which party is in the White House or which party dominates Congress, they have been funding the U.S. military threaten and dominate the rest of the world.  Also, they have typically treated various kinds of international issues as needing the U.S. military to seek violent solutions rather than understand what’s really going on and solve the problems.  For example, people really do have legitimate interests in national self-determination, in opposing their U.S.-supported dictators, in gaining farm land for self-sufficiency, etc. Trump’s proposal for the next Fiscal Year’s […]

The welfare states (“nanny states”) are better for business investors too.

February 22, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Conservatives like to denounce the “nanny states” that take care of people’s health, invest in good education, and serve the broad public interest in other ways. Conservatives instead prefer neoliberal “free-market” governments that do NOT invest in those, but rather keep governments small and weak so businesses can dominate those nations. Actually, an article from the very “free-market” and “free-enterprise” business-oriented Forbes magazine (cited on page 15 of the Jan-Feb 2018 issue of the economically left Dollars & Sense magazine (www.dollarsandsense.org) reported some important economic findings. “[I]n 2016 Forbes ranked Sweden number one on its list of the top countries […]

URGENT: Immigrant rights legislation in Washington State Legislature

January 24, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Bob Zeigler, who has worked very hard for decades on immigrant rights issues, alerted us on Tuesday January 23, 2018, to the urgent need to contact the Washington State Legislature about some very good bills that would protect immigrant rights in several ways.  The Senate bill (SB 5689) and the House bill (HB 1985) are the same, so we need to push each bill through its respective body until they can meet and pass on the Legislature’s floor. Here is what he wrote: Keep Washington Working Bill 5689 in Senate and 1985 in House needs support now. This is urgent […]

Besides Protesting What We Oppose, Let’s Also Organize to Achieve Positive Goals

January 12, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

by Glen Anderson We need to keep protesting against the cruelty, corruption, injustice and violence that continually assault us. But if we spend most of our time and efforts fighting the bad stuff, the oppressors will continue to have the upper hand because they can keep throwing bad stuff at us and we will always be on the defensive. We need to spend most of our time and efforts taking the initiative to organize for the positive goals that we want instead. We need to be proactive, envision the future we want instead of the current mess, and organize to […]
