Why is “national security” defined ONLY in ways that assume MILITARISM?

October 26, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

The term “national security” is almost always ASSUMED to imply the need for more militarism, more fear of people in other countries, more willingness to fight wars, more military weapons, more military spending, and more nuclear weapons. That is a VERY NARROW channeling of our vision and our thinking. Really, our nation is NOT SECURE in many other ways.  Our nation is NOT SECURE when: Many people are poor Many people are homeless Many people lack decent health care Many people feel alienated from society Many people are very angry Many people own guns that endanger themselves, their families and […]

Trump’s new war for oil in northern Syria

October 26, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Trump keeps screwing up. Trump keeps deceiving people. Everything he does is only for his own benefit. He fooled some people into thinking he was withdrawing troops from Syria as a matter of a principled peace policy.  Actually, he was screwing our allies in his “America First” isolationism — except that he is really abusing our foreign and military policies in order to help his pals Erdogan (the brutal authoritarian who runs Turkey) and Putin (’nuff said!) and in order to pursue a war for oil in Northern Syria. See this:  https://www.juancole.com/2019/10/province-kurdish-displacement.html   No, Trump Isn’t Bringing US Troops Home […]

Chris Hedges wrote about “The Age of Radical Evil”

October 26, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Chris Hedges keeps writing articles that are powerfully insightful and wise. His articles connect the dots across a number of issues. They are very much worth reading. Here is one from October 2019: https://www.truthdig.com/articles/the-age-of-radical-evil/

This thoughtful, informative article supports the Green New Deal as sensible economics and good for the climate

October 26, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

This article compares the Green New Deal with FDR’s original New Deal. It sees similarities with the Great Depression, but also differences. (For example, the Great Depression was the overriding single issue that dominated national discussion, and nobody denied the existence of the Great Depression, in contrast to the rich, powerful “deniers” of the climate crisis.) Let’s draw upon another similarity. The article says, “The New Deal was made possible by mass movements of insurgent industrial workers, the unemployed, farmers facing foreclosure and ruin, urban dwellers facing eviction, and small businessmen facing extinction, among others.” A few paragraphs later the […]

“Solutionary Rail Is a Win-Win-Win for Climate, Workers, Communities”

October 21, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

The November 2019 interview on “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV series explores Solutionary Rail, a truly creative and exciting solution for several of our nation’s problems. You can watch the interview through the link below — and on TCTV cable channel 22 in Thurston County, as mentioned in the information at the end of this blog post. Solutionary Rail would significantly reduce fossil fuel use and air pollution. It would protect our environment, climate, and public health. It would create jobs, improve working conditions, and help local communities – including seaport areas, transportation hubs, cities, freeways, rural farming areas, and tribes […]

Ralph Nader’s article: “25 Ways the Canadian Health Care System is Better than Obamacare for the 2020 Elections”

October 12, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

This article is interesting.  We need to focus on real health care reform and not settle for Obamacare or other weak alternatives.  See Ralph Nader’s article here: https://www.commondreams.org/views/2019/09/19/25-ways-canadian-health-care-system-better-obamacare-2020-elections?cd-origin=rss&utm_term=AO&utm_campaign=Daily%20Newsletter&utm_content=email&utm_source=Daily%20Newsletter&utm_medium=Email

Pelosi and House Democrats are TOO TIMID about impeaching Trump!

October 12, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

For 2 1/2 years House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other powerful Democrats have refused to impeach Trump, despite his MANY, MANY violations of the Constitution and MANY, MANY violations of federal law. The Constitution explicitly urges a strong remedy when a President becomes a tyrant:  IMPEACHMENT!  The Constitution’s explicit remedy has been available to impeach Trump all the way back to his inauguration in January 2017 when he has been clearly — and continuously VIOLATING the Constitution’s EXPLICIT prohibition of using the presidential power as a gimmick for financial gain.  The Constitution explicitly prohibits both foreign and domestic “emoluments.” Since […]

Several articles about religion, politics, peace, nonviolence, etc.

October 12, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

The October 2019 interview on my TV series “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” focuses on how the Religious Right has hijacked Christianity and much of our nation’s government.  I interview three guests who make a strong case for authentic Christianity, which is the opposite of what has become dominant.  Watch the interview and/or read a thorough summary of what we said at this link:  http://parallaxperspectives.org/tv-being-christian-in-america-in-a-time-of-crisis The thorough summary includes much additional information — and links to many articles — beyond what we had time to say during the TV interview. In addition to those resources, I invite you to click the following […]

“Being Christian in America in a Time of Crisis”

October 6, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

The October 2019 episode of “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” takes a fresh look at some of our nation’s social and political issues – especially in light of religious faith.  Many of the public policy issues that our nation is grappling with have been pushed hard from conservative Christian viewpoints, but those are NOT the only voices of Christianity. Moderate, liberal and progressive Christians have insights that differ greatly from the highly publicized views that have gained political power. Our October 2019 interview features three retired Christian ministers sharing faith-based insights and perspectives that are VERY DIFFERENT from those that have been […]

Wow! See how this big business tries to bully Lewis County! Their e-mail exposed their corporate playbook.

October 6, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

This non-profit org’s e-mail explains what’s been happening. Perhaps you already know. See this interesting news from Lewis County. I clicked the link in this sentence: The Daily Chronicle, like any good media outlet, published the email.  See the Centralia newspaper’s article at this link:  http://www.chronline.com/news/crystal-geyser-mistakenly-emails-chronicle-randle-bottling-project-likely-dead/article_cd562296-a434-11e9-85e8-03a953d811a6.html?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=70742fc1-ddac-4a06-b7c4-7e7199a7ca7c

Chicago’s people organize for a municipally owned electric utility to replace the capitalist one

October 6, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

We need PROFOUND DEMOCRACY in many ways.  Certainly in our political functioning, but also we need our ECONOMICS to be profoundly democratic.  We can replace capitalistic businesses with publicly owned alternatives that will serve the people as their top priority instead of exploiting people in order to serve rich stockholders. Decades ago when Dennis Kucinich was the very young mayor of Cleveland, Ohio, he became famous nationwide by protecting Cleveland’s publicly owned electric utility from being sold to a private corporation. My June 2019 TV program explains “Why the Public Should Own Our Electric Utilities.”  Watch the interview and/or read […]

Many “public-private partnerships are neoliberal scams that widen economic inequality.

October 6, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Watch the 24-minute video I have linked below.  It exposes “public-private partnerships” as harmful in many ways. Social problems are “monetized” by using public funding to let big businesses pretend to solve problems, but really the big businesses get rich at public expense – without actually solving the problems. Nationwide, BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES keep supporting these scams that value profits instead of people. This powerful video shows an example of the “public-private partnership” scam in Baltimore and the powerful grassroots organizing that fought back and opposed the gentrification. The Climate Crisis Means the Wrong People Are Running the World

October 6, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

If ordinary people around the world had political and economic democracy, we never would have allowed the climate crisis to get to this extreme emergency: • We would have paid attention to the science. • We would have sharply restricted big business and other economic powers. • We would have forced governments to take strong and timely action decades ago. The fact that the climate crisis exists now proves that the U.S. and the world are existentially suffering from a lack of political and economic democracy. The following article discusses this: The Climate Crisis Means the Wrong People Are Running […]
