Presidential candidates AND members of Congress MUST take the climate crisis seriously!

February 7, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

Elected officials and candidates like to create the image that they care about important issues (such as the climate crisis), but many of them are NOT SINCERE and are “slippery” and have conflicts of interest.  Voters and the media MUST HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE.     A great many of the persons Trump has appointed to positions of enormous power over the environment, energy, etc., have very severe conflicts of interest.  I will post a different item to my blog with examples of those horrible corruptions of our government.     Members of Congress own up to $93 MILLION in fossil […]

Why the Pentagon Never Wins Wars Anymore But Needs Bigger and Bigger Nearly Trillion-Dollar Budgets

January 26, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

Read Juan Cole’s article in the January 22, 2020, post at Tomdispatch:  https://www.juancole.com/2020/01/pentagon-trillion-budgets.html I have written about this topic before.  For example, see the explicit, informative handout I provided to participants in a workshop I presented to the public in September 2016:  De-Militarize U.S. Foreign Policy — WORKSHOP handout for participants and others I can provide much additional information about the entrenched economic and political powers of the Military-Industrial Complex and the need to CONVERT FROM A PERMANENT WAR ECONOMY TO A PEACE ECONOMY.  I conducted a huge amount of research in 1976-1977 about how military spending actually HURTS THE […]

Obama was far too timid for 8 years. His “centrism” hurt the USA and helped to elect Trump.

January 26, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

The Democratic Party keeps glorifying Barack Obama and claiming he had a terrific legacy. Actually, Obama governed like a “CENTRIST” REPUBLICAN!  He kept caving in to Republicans.  He failed to take positive actions within his power.  Instead, he promoted War and Wall Street.  Obama was a grossly inadequate president!   When Obama took office in January 2009, Democrats had majorities in both the House and the Senate. He could have done a lot if he had wanted to. The massive support from labor unions and non-profit organizations got him elected. They had some hot priorities. But Obama and the Democrats running […]

SIGN PETITION about Congress members who own stocks in weapons manufacturing vote about war decisions

January 26, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

How corrupt is this? Many members of Congress – those people who make decisions about wars – own stocks in businesses that make military weapons. I signed this petition and hope you will too. The excellent non-profit organization Project on Government Oversight (POGO), www.pogo.org) monitors government corruption.  They sent this e-mail in mid-January 2020: The American people have spent a lot of time talking about our wars with Iraq and Afghanistan—and rightly so. They’ve cost so many lives and trillions of taxpayer dollars. But what would you say if we told you that members of Congress actually stand to profit […]

Universal Single-Payer Health Care — New information!

January 26, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

For a long time the excellent, highly competent statewide organization Health Care for All — Washington (www.healthcareforallwa.org) has been working for Universal Single-Payer health care.  Their quarterly newsletter is an excellent source of information, so I urge everyone to sign up to receive it in the mail.  I also urge people to donate so they can continue publishing, organizing, and lobbying at the State Legislature. Their Winter 2020 newsletter includes some interesting and useful information, which I’m summarizing very briefly here. Seven years ago (Dec. 12, 2012) the United Nations passed a resolution urging all nations to work for universal […]

How could we move our whole society higher on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs?

January 26, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

In 1943 psychologist Abraham Maslow wrote that people have five categories of needs.  Our most basic needs are for our physiological (air, food, etc.), and the next higher category is for our safety (personal security, employment, etc.).  The next step up in the hierarchy is our need for love and belonging (friendship, connections, intimacy, etc.).  Above that is our need for esteem (respect, positive self-image, freedom, etc.), and the highest level of need in Maslow’s hierarchy is the need for self-actualization (becoming the very best person you can be). His theory states that only when a person has sufficiently satisfied […]

I warned the Democratic Party in 2016 and now again for 2020.

January 19, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

Throughout 2016 I kept telling the national Democratic Party and its various front groups that Bernie Sanders was the VERY BEST on the issues, and he RESONATED WITH THE PUBLIC’S DEMAND FOR STRONG PROGRESSIVE CHANGES, and he was INSPIRING NEW PEOPLE TO VOTE, so if Bernie Sanders would become the nominee, he would WIN IN A LANDSLIDE, and he would have long coat-tails that would elect Democrats all the way down the ballot, including Congress and state and local offices. Instead, the national Democratic Party TRAMPLED OVER THE VOTERS’ INTERESTS and crammed Hillary Clinton down our throats, despite the fact […]

Info about Trump’s NAFTA 2.0, the USCMA

January 19, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

In January 2020 Congress passed NAFTA 2.0 (Trump’s USMCA), which increases fossil fuel pollution in Mexico:  https://truthout.org/articles/with-passage-of-nafta-2-0-congress-boosts-fossil-fuel-polluters-in-mexico/?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=e5ce0dde-589e-4dd6-a92a-a4dcf710c66f   People who care about the environment and the climate opposed Trump’s NAFTA 2.0 (USMCA), but Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats caved in to Trump and the oil companies.  U.S. Representative Nancy Pelosi, the House’s top Democrat, caved in to Trump and moved his trade toward House passage DESPITE its failure to include any of the key changes environmental and climate groups have been demanding over the last year.  Trump’s trade deal does not even mention the climate crisis, let alone do anything […]

Much smarter, more efficient rail transportation for passengers and freight

January 19, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

Progressives keep talking about “bullet trains” and other very high speed rail projects. There are BETTER REMEDIES than those! Some Olympia area folks have watched and discussed this short video – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qaf6baEu0_w – but there are MUCH BETTER ALTERNATIVES than what this short video discusses. For several years I have been supporting “SOLUTIONARY RAIL” (www.solutionaryrail.org), which would significantly reduce carbon emissions in transportation, reduce air pollution at transportation hubs, reduce highway/freeway congestion, help transportation workers, and provide other benefits. My December 2017 TV interview focused on that, and my November 2019 TV interview will provide more information about it. Here […]

THESE should be Articles of Impeachment to remove Trump!

December 29, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Trump has committed MANY, MANY violations of the Constitution and MANY, MANY violations of federal law. But the House Democrats have given him a FREE RIDE — negligently EXONERATED him — for NEARLY ALL of those violations, which REALLY ARE IMPEACHABLE OFFENSES! THESE ITEMS IDENTIFY SOME TRULY IMPEACHABLE OFFENSES.  The House should create Articles of Impeachment for these:   Ted Rall, who — besides being a skilled cartoonist — is also a savvy political analyst, urges these impeachable offenses:   https://www.opednews.com/articles/The-Articles-of-Impeachmen-by-Ted-Rall-Articles-Of-Impeachment_Bipartisan_Conviction_Senate-191228-892.html   Paul Blumenthal urged impeaching Trump for these reasons:  https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-impeachment-impeachable-act_n_5de6edb3e4b0913e6f872731?ncid=newsltushpmgpolitics   One of the strongest, most consistent non-profit organizations urging […]

Biden’s anti-Trump campaign strategy is simplistic and deceptive — and a sure way to lose in 2020.

December 28, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

In 2016 Hillary Clinton campaigned by telling voters that the status quo was just fine and she would tinker only a little around the edges. In contrast, Trump recognized that problems existed and voters were angry. (Trump lied about many things, but at least he did tap into the anger, so millions of voters rewarded him.) Once Trump took power, the entire Republican Party rallied around him with absolute loyalty like a cult’s true believers. Actually, the entire Republican Party really has been very Trump-like for many years (racist ever since Nixon’s 1968 “Southern Strategy” of racism, utterly subservient to […]

Here is a solid case for REAL “Medicare for All” — UNIVERSAL SINGLE-PAYER!

December 22, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Now politicians are finally talking about “Medicare for All,” but SOME politicians are weakening the concept by pretending that a “public option” would suffice, or by protecting the health insurance companies’ role in the system. Obama’s Affordable Care Act still left many millions of people with NO health care, and the ACA gave MORE POWER AND CONTROL to insurance companies.  The ACA also PROHIBITED the government from negotiating with Big Pharma for lower prices. Now is a good time to understand what REAL “Medicare for All” would be.  It is UNIVERSAL SINGLE-PAYER! My December 2015 TV program explained it very […]
