For decades I have subscribed to and read a fascinating magazine published in the UK about all kinds of issues with fresh international perspectives.  A few days ago I read the current issue, which includes a number of articles with fresh information, insights and practical examples about people who are currently replacing police and jails with nonviolent, community-based alternatives. Uvalde, Texax, police disprove the “good guys with guns” remedy

The gun lobby likes to say that the remedy for “bad guys with guns” is “good guys with guns.”  Unfortunately, the police department of Uvalde, Texas, disproved that when they refused to enter an elementary school where an active shooter was murdering many students and two teachers. ABOLISH THE FILIBUSTER in order to reduce gun violence and solve MANY other problems!

On MANY, MANY issues, the American people want to solve problems, but Senate Republicans (and “Democrats” Manchin and Sinema) keep using the filibuster to PREVENT the Senate from solving them!!! I remember the 1960s when racist Southern Democrats used the filibuster to prevent passing Civil Rights legislation.  In the late 1960s the parties flipped, and now it is the Republican Party that is extremely racist. Second Amendment is NO EXCUSE for individual shootings!

Which “well regulated militia” did any of the mass murderers belong to? The Second Amendment is IRRELEVANT to justifying their shootings! People who oppose reducing gun violence claim the Second Amendment prevents any sensible laws from being passed.  This is an ABSOLUTELY FALSE justification for failing to reduce gun violence. Let’s use this clever strategy to oppose the housing development at the Sundberg Gravel Pit site.

We keep seeing new housing developments named after the environmental reality that had been existing at that site before the housing development was built.  So, for example, a forest of cedar trees is clear-cut and replaced by a housing development called “Cedar Park.”  This happens a lot.
