The quotations I have included here include some links to source materials. Those links are live in the full article, which I have linked at the end of this blog post. The article I have linked at the end of this post starts with this paragraph: Donald Trump is a living, breathing national emergency. Our president has repeatedly encouraged violence against his perceived enemies — and at least some of his supporters are following his lead. These are not isolated incidents. There are dozens of court cases where Donald Trump has been cited for “inspiring” acts of violence and other […]
Today I posted a blog item comparing Trump’s rhetoric and policies with Hitler’s when Hitler was gaining power. Although those two differ in their cruelty, the similarities are striking. One similarity is that a high-ranking Nazi official, Dr. Mengele, worked at a Nazi concentration camp where many thousands of Jews and other “undesirable” people arrived, and Mengele broke families apart. He sent some family members to suffer in the camp, and he sent other members of the same families to die in the ovens. Although Trump is not conducting mass slaughter like Trump did, Trump has deliberately and hatefully targeted […]
Voters hate hypocrisy in their politicians! Since Trump’s inauguration I have read several news articles reporting that Trump has been employing MANY undocumented immigrant workers. Yet another article was posted on August 12, 2019, with the headline “Top official refuses to say if Trump is also being investigated for exploiting undocumented labor.” The link is at this URL: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/8/12/1878481/-Top-official-refuses-to-say-if-Trump-is-also-being-investigated-for-exploiting-undocumented-labor?detail=emaildkre
An experienced and prominent civil rights lawyer lists 20 ways Trump is copying Hitler’s early rhetoric and policies. This is not a trivial rant, but rather a VERY SOLID AND SUBSTANTIVE comparison that is TRULY ALARMING! The title of the article I linked below is “Civil rights lawyer: 20 ways Trump is copying Hitler’s early rhetoric and policies.” The subtitle is “Civil liberties lawyer Burt Neuborne questions whether federal government can contain Trump and GOP power grabs.” The author’s book says our nation’s checks and balances might not be enough to protect us from Trump’s Hitlerian rhetoric and policies based […]
The problem is not just that Trump is wrong on the issues. The more serious reality is that TRUMP IS SERIOUSLY MENTALLY ILL. Trumps serious mental illness has made the U.S. a MUCH WORSE place than before he took office. He is deliberately provoking racism and violence against vulnerable people. He has targeted and abused Muslims, Latinos, African Americans, LGBTQ people, poor people, the working class, and other vulnerable people because he is a bully, and bullies attack vulnerable people. His mental illness and corruption have hurt our economy in many ways. His serious mental illness has RECKLESSLY ENDANGERED PLANET […]
I have been tracking the news of the deliberately racist, anti-immigrant, and highly partisan question about citizenship that Trump has been pushing hard to include in the 2020 census. I have posted updates several times to my blog’s section on IMMIGRANTS (http://parallaxperspectives.org/category/immigrants-and-refugees). See those previous posts for background on the controversy and why Trump’s citizenship question is such a horrible idea. Even after the U.S. Supreme Court explicitly rejected it and exposed the Trump regime’s blatant lies, Trump wanted to find some way to add it anyway, but he could not. He even considered delaying the 2020 census (despite the […]
Many people assume that Republicans are bad and Democrats are good, so all we have to do is replace Republicans with Democrats and our problems will be solved. WRONG! In many, many ways, Democrats are part of the problem. Very often they actively go along with Republicans or timidly fail to oppose them. Robert Reich’s July 1, 2019, article said the Democrats caved in to Republicans about the border, despite huge public concern: https://www.nationofchange.org/2019/07/01/dems-cave-on-the-border/ This June 28, 2019, article reports that the highest-ranking Democrats in the Senate (Schumer) and the House (Pelosi) HELPED REPUBLICANS GIVE TRUMP $4.6 BILLION […]
Oppressors like to use “divide-and-conquer” strategies to disempower the 99%. The Olympian published an op-ed I wrote in May 2019. Here is the article as a Word document: BOC — 2019.05.16 FINAL version — We’re All in This Together Here is the article as it appeared on the editorial page on May 23, 2019: https://www.theolympian.com/opinion/letters-to-the-editor/article230676584.html?
Both of the big political parties cause serious problems. Republican Party leaders deliberately and enthusiastically make problems worse. Republican Party members obediently follow along. Democratic Party members want to solve problems (Green New Deal, Medicare for All, Impeach Trump, promote diversity in the party, etc.) Democratic Party “leaders” refuse to solve those problems. Dem “leaders” rebuff their members – and wonder why Dems don’t win more elections.
The article at this link provides insights into the effectiveness of RIGHT-WING MEMES — and why the Left falls short in that: https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2019/04/right-wing-groups-are-training-young-conservatives-to-win-the-next-meme-war/?utm_source=mj-newsletters&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=econundrums-2019-04-08 The Left had raised the issue of “globalization,” but the Right stole the issue and converted it into right-wing nationalism, racism, and anti-immigrant hysteria. This allowed Trump and right-wing extremists to gain power in various countries that used to be “liberal democracies.” This article provides insights: https://fpif.org/sieg-heil-deja-vu-understanding-the-global-rise-of-the-extreme-right/ In the U.S and elsewhere, the dominant economic and political systems are not working, so mainstream (“white”) people feel victimized. The right wing has promoted the current conservative […]
I have posted information several times about Trump’s intention to list a question about citizenship on the 2020 census. That is a horrible idea for several reasons that I have stated in previous blog posts. Now in late April 2019 there is more news about that. BACKGROUND AND PREVIOUS INFORMATION: http://parallaxperspectives.org/more-federal-judges-overrule-trumps-census-question-about-citizenship AND http://parallaxperspectives.org/updates-protect-the-2020-census-from-trumps-anti-immigrant-bias NEWS IN APRIL 2019 On April 17, 2019, the national ACLU provided this information, which they encourage people to share widely. (I’ve edited it only slightly here): Watch the video at the link at the end of this message, and share it with other people. […]
Globally, nationally, and locally, we are confronted with very serious problems. Some people feel overwhelmed and disempowered, so they feel powerless to solve the problems. But that only allows the horrible problems to get worse. I strongly support the opposite approach: Recognize that WE CAN INDEED LEARN HOW TO ORGANIZE EFFECTIVELY at the grassroots level (“Think globally and act locally”) to solve the problems. Sometimes people and organizations merely vent or flail about with random activities without a clear strategy for how to make the political and social changes we want. We can do better than that! Specifically, I seek […]
Let’s start dealing now with the hatred, cruelty and fascism that preceded Trump and will outlast him. This article helps us proceed: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/04/05/1847969/-What-do-we-do-after-Trump-has-been-forced-out-of-office?detail=emaildkcs
People who live in Washington State tend to think we are more enlightened than the rest of the nation. But the Southern Poverty Law Center (www.splcentner.org) has identified 28 hate groups in Washington State. Sure, some might be small. But they can be dangerous. Decent people need to figure out various ways to make our local communities more welcoming and to discourage the kind of mean-spiritedness, bias, etc., that can cause some people to join up with hate groups. Here is the SPLC’s article: https://www.splcenter.org/states/washington
