Updates: Protect the 2020 census from Trump’s anti-immigrant bias

Four times before I had posted information about Trump’s scheme to pervert the 2020 census in order to hurt immigrants and the communities where immigrants live now.  Those previous posts provide background, for today’s post, which provides newer information, including a way for Congress to fix the problem.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

On January 3, 2019, I posted this update on my previous posts:  http://parallaxperspectives.org/federal-judge-blocks-trumps-immigration-question-on-2020-census

NEW INFORMATION and ACTIONS:

From February 2019 here are FOUR items to click to support immigrants and a fair 2020 census:

Daily Kos (www.dailykos.com) reported this:

Last month, a federal judge ordered the Trump administration to remove the citizenship question from the 2020 census questionnaire, calling it “unlawful for a multitude of reasons” and “a veritable smorgasbord of classic, clear-cut” violations of the Administrative Procedure Act.

In his incredibly detailed ruling, U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman held that the citizenship question violates the administration’s duty to use existing data to determine citizenship status, AND that the administration announced the question in a way that concealed its true basis.

The Supreme Court will take up the matter of the citizenship question this spring, and time is winding down before the census questionnaire must be finalized. We must keep up the fight to block this racist, anti-immigrant question from the census.

They invite us to click this link and send a message to Congress:

Common Cause (www.commoncause.org) urges people to click to sign this petition:

Another group — Demand Justice (www.demandjustice.org) — said this:

The Supreme Court has just agreed to hear a case about whether the Trump administration’s decision to add a question to the 2020 Census about citizenship is constitutional. Even though Trump has no valid reason for including the question, the Republican majority of the Court could very well side with him. They urge people to click this to show that you stand with immigrants:

A few days before those three items, Daily Kos had invited people to click to sign this:

Thank you for helping!
