Both parties in Congress lavishly funded the Pentagon in CURRENT YEAR’s budget

February 24, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Today I posted to this blog’s “Military Spending” category some information about Trump’s proposal for the Fiscal Year 2019 budget.  But Congress has been so dysfunctional that they were very late in finishing the decisions about the CURRENT YEAR’s budget. BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES have lavishly funded the Pentagon and military violence. See this article:  https://inkstickmedia.com/congress-went-bigly-budget/

Trump’s federal budget proposal urges more military violence, less diplomacy

February 24, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

The U.S.’s horribly violent foreign policy has long had bi-partisan support.  No matter which party is in the White House or which party dominates Congress, they have been funding the U.S. military threaten and dominate the rest of the world.  Also, they have typically treated various kinds of international issues as needing the U.S. military to seek violent solutions rather than understand what’s really going on and solve the problems.  For example, people really do have legitimate interests in national self-determination, in opposing their U.S.-supported dictators, in gaining farm land for self-sufficiency, etc. Trump’s proposal for the next Fiscal Year’s […]

“Nuclear Weapons Updates: Dangers and Opportunities”

February 13, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

The March 2018 episode of “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” brings us up to date on the rapidly changing crisis of nuclear weapons. We are facing some seriously increased dangers. But also, the people working against nuclear weapons have made some great progress. During this hour we’ll bring you up to date on both the dangers and the opportunities. Glen Anderson interviews three knowledgeable guests.  All four of us are very active members of the new Olympia Coalition to Abolish Nuclear Weapons. We share information about several aspects of nuclear weapons, including these facts: • The U.S. plans to replace our entire […]

“Converting to a Peace Economy”

December 3, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

Throughout our nation’s history, we had occasional wars and then de-mobilized afterward. But after World War II we launched the Cold War and maintained a permanent war status. We also created a “permanent war economy.” Massive military spending year after year – decade after decade – since the 1940s – has distorted and disrupted the U.S. economy and hurt our society in many ways. This is the topic of the Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation’s December 2010 TV program. Every year Congress makes decisions about how much money to spend for which purposes. For example, Congress could spend less on nuclear […]

TV: “Militarism Is the Problem, Not the Solution”

December 2, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

Since World War II – and especially since the Soviet Union collapsed more than 20 year ago – the US has been the world’s #1 military power. And, indeed, the US has used that military power continuously since the 1940s in many places throughout the world. The justifying buzz word has always been “national security” – as if a bigger military, more nuclear weapons, and more military attacks on other countries would make our nation more secure. But even after all of this, Americans still feel insecure. Indeed, when you look at how the US interacts with other nations around […]

Nuclear weapons industry has much power over Congress and Trump

November 25, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

I have read a great many articles and one or more books by the author of this article, William Hartung. Decades ago I drove to Seattle to hear him speak. He is one of the most knowledgeable experts. The article at the link below is especially relevant to our current crisis, in which the U.S. is starting to replace its entire nuclear weapons arsenal with thousands of all-new nuclear weapons and the triad of delivery systems. This is totally unnecessary and horribly reckless. It will waste huge amounts of taxpayers’ money ($1.7 TRILLION, according to this article) that we need […]

Cut the military budget. Use the savings to fully fund human needs.

November 20, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

A budget is a numerical way to express what we value.  The U.S.’s federal budget extravagantly funds military violence and fails to support human needs.  This is morally wrong.  It also makes our nation weak.  Sure, the Pentagon has plenty of weapons.  But our people are suffering badly from poor housing, poor health, polluted communities, and so forth. We need to cut the military budget and use the savings to fully fund human needs.  The U.S. has WASTED TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS making war against people in other countries while making the American people suffer also from neglect. In 2011 and […]

TV: “Militarism Is the Problem, Not the Solution”

November 20, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

During mid-2014, Thurston Community Television (TCTV, www.tctv.net) was replacing its production equipment, so we repeated a great program that we had aired in November 2012 and was still fully relevant now in 2014 — and up to the current day. To watch this 1-hour interview, click HERE. To read the brief summary below in .pdf format, click Program Description — August 2014. Since World War II – and especially since the Soviet Union collapsed more than 20 year ago – the US has been the world’s #1 military power. And, indeed, the US has used that military power continuously since […]

TV: “De-Militarize U.S. Foreign Policy”

November 16, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

The Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation’s October 2016 TV program critiques U.S. foreign policy, especially how – instead of providing national security – the U.S.’s military violence actually makes us less secure! The program also helps us understand why the government keeps using military violence. In our daily lives we know that violence is wrong and counter-productive, but the U.S. government routinely threatens and uses military violence all over the world. At the end of this hour we propose nonviolent and socially just ways to achieve more profound, holistic “security” not only for our nation, but for the entire world. You […]

TV: “Nuclear Weapons Threaten Life and Waste Money”

November 15, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

Watch a 1-hour interview about nuclear weapons. Two expert guests from the Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action (next to the Trident nuclear submarine base) bring us up to date and help us think more clearly about the issues.  Host Glen Anderson interviews two guests: Tom Rogers served in the Navy for 32 years on submarines and retired as a captain.  He commanded a nuclear attack submarine during the Cold War.  Now he volunteers actively to stop nuclear weapons. Leonard Eiger has a professional background in public health. For a number of years he has worked to abolish nuclear weapons, […]
