Biden, etc., are stuck in a manic Cold War obsession that could destroy the world in nuclear war

November 10, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

Biden filled his foreign policy positions with appointees who share Biden’s Cold War mania and bias in favor of militarism — instead of honest diplomacy and peace. For example, he appointed Anthony Blinkin to be his Secretary of State.  The State Department is the federal agency in charge of directing U.S. interactions with other nations.  Presidents should appoint to that position persons who are solidly committed to peace, honest diplomacy, etc.  Biden appointed Anthony Blinkin, whose career has focused on URGING OTHER NATIONS TO BUY MILITARY WEAPONS MADE BY U.S. CORPORATIONS.  That is how Joe Biden sees the role of […]

PROHIBIT nuclear weapons! Support this global Treaty to do this!

October 2, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

During the 1960s the world was alarmed that some nations had nuclear weapons and more nations were starting programs to build their own.  The 5 nations that had them (U.S., U.S.S.R., the U.K., France and China) were alarmed that other nations (South Africa, Brazil, etc.) might join their elite “nuclear club” and threaten the world — just as the 5 nuclear nations were doing. In response, the world’s nations negotiated a grand bargain between the “haves” and the “have-nots.”  Nearly every nation of the world promised NEVER to build or acquire nuclear weapon while the 5 nuclear nations promised to […]

How to use humor to help the climate (and other scary issues, such as nuclear weapons, etc.)

September 27, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

This article is about how we can educate people about the climate by using humor – helping people laugh first – before the educational part comes out. I have long been urging us to use humor to educate people about hard, scary issues such as nuclear weapons, dangerous right-wing politicians, etc.  This article’s focus on the climate is applicable to other hard, scary issues:   Here is a GREAT EXAMPLE of how to use humor in our outreach: This movie satirized the Cold War. During the workshops I conduct to strengthen people’s skills in organizing grassroots movements, I encourage […]

Spending for Military and Nuclear Weapons Makes Poverty Worse — Glen’s October 2022 TV program

September 23, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

The October 2022 program on “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV series “connects the dots” between poverty in the United States and excessive military spending, including the costs of nuclear weapons: This TV program begins by recognizing the extent of poverty in the United States – the richest nation on earth. Poverty is a serious crisis – and it is getting worse. Next, we recognize how excessively expensive the U.S. military has become. The U.S. spends a gigantic amount on the military – much, much more than is necessary.  Both political parties keep increasing military budgets far, far beyond reason. We spend […]

Nuclear weapons NUMBERS and COSTS — 2 images and brief summary

September 19, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

I’m attaching some very brief information about NUMBERS and COSTS with two compelling graphs. These facts should inform the Senate that we have TOO MANY nuclear weapons, and they COST TOO MUCH. The U.S. needs to work seriously and open-mindedly with other nations on Planet Earth to solve this serious problem. Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty: Info + Update

September 16, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

During the 1960s the world was deeply worried that more nations would develop or acquire nuclear weapons. Also, the non-nuclear nations were concerned that the few nations that did have nuclear weapons might use them. In the late 1960s the world’s nations negotiated the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as a grand bargain between nations that had nuclear weapons and those that did not.  It went into effect in 1970 – more than half a century ago. The NPT was a very smart agreement.  This is the grand bargain: Nations that did NOT have nuclear weapons agreed NOT to get them. […]

Nuclear weapons: NUMBERS and COSTS among the 9 nations that have nuclear weapons

September 13, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

In 2021, about 13,000 nuclear warheads existed worldwide, according to the Arms Control Association, I’m showing on the TV screen an image of how many nuclear weapons are owned by each of the nine nations that have nuclear weapons.  About 90% of these belong to the United States and Russia. SEE THIS IMAGE: Nine nations’ stockpiles of nuclear weapons   After George W. Bush and Donald Trump destroyed several important treaties that limited nuclear weapons of the U.S. and Russia, the New START Treaty was practically the only one left between the U.S. and Russia.  Trump was allowing New […]

11-minute video supports Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons

July 19, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

Jim Manista, an active member of the Olympia Coalition to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, produced this smart 11-minute video supporting the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.  This Treaty is POWERFUL and HISTORIC.  Although 66 nations have ratified the Treaty, mainstream news media in the U.S. have ALMOST TOTALLY REFUSED to cover this hot news. We encourage you to watch Jim’s video at this link:

Here is a GREAT EXAMPLE of how to use humor in our outreach: This movie satirized the Cold War.

July 1, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

During the workshops I conduct to strengthen people’s skills in organizing grassroots movements, I encourage the participants to use humor, wit and satire in raising issues.  Even hard, scary issues such as nuclear weapons can be approached.  When people are laughing, their defenses are lowered, so they can see things in fresh ways.   You can watch for FREE the movie I linked here.  It came out in 1966, during the height of the Cold War.  It pointed out – in very funny ways – the ridiculousness of some people’s fears, and also the humanity of Russian submariners.   I […]

Recognize and Counter Mainstream Media Bias

June 24, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

The July 2022 interview on “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” provides fresh information and insights about a systemic problem that perpetuates war and all kinds of injustice.  This systemic problem also interferes with our efforts to solve all of the problems we care about. This TV interview is about bias in mainstream news media. Media bias is very pervasive – and because it is so very pervasive, it is often not even noticed.  It distorts what people know about vital issues such as war and peace, the economy, race, the criminal justice system, the climate, and all of the other important issues.  […]

Ukraine: While U.S. politicians, media and NATO push for war, people need to understand this context

April 22, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

Regarding the current Ukraine crisis, nearly all U.S. politicians and news media are aggressively promoting the narrowly nationalistic U.S.-centric foreign policy grounded in arrogance and hubris that refuses to understand other nations’ needs and concerns and refuses to understand the context in which the crisis emerged. The U.S. has done this over and over again in recent decades.  This led to disastrous wars in Vietnam, Central America, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and other countries.  Now our politicians and mainstream media are pushing the U.S. into war with Russia.  This could end in a nuclear war that kills billions of people and […]

Nonviolent National Defense — A Practical Way to Be More Secure

April 16, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

The May 2022 episode of “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV series provides powerful information and inspiration to significantly improve the U.S.’s “national security” by – ironically — de-militarizing our “national defense.”  Instead of military violence, we could defend our nation better through carefully planned strategies of nonviolent resistance. Besides eliminating the danger of nuclear war, a nonviolent national defense would also provide better security without all of the downsides that violent militarism causes. During this hour Glen Anderson: Encourages us to think open-mindedly, boldly and creatively Explains how nonviolent national defense could actually work effectively Shares examples of nonviolent resistance used […]
