Pass the law that will allow law suits against gun manufacturers – Sign the Petition

August 17, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Conservatives believe in the glories of the “market” in driving public policies.  But they avoid using “market” solutions for certain kinds of issues. Let’s make gun manufacturers LEGALLY AND FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE for the expensive damage their products cause?  Several years ago cigarette manufacturers were held responsible and provided funding for state governments.  Gun manufacturers impose huge costs upon individual victims and their families, and also local governments (policing, courts, etc.), and health providers (hospitals, insurance companies, etc.).   See more information and sign a petition is at this link: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/95d58ea293aa01df1dcbb603a2f65721dc330525/?link_id=1&can_id=1d662460c0abb8939c5044c82927552b&source=email-firstname-default-friend-pass-the-law-that-will-allow-law-suits-against-gun-manufacturers&email_referrer=email_594753&email_subject=firstname-default-friend-pass-the-law-that-will-allow-law-suits-against-gun-manufacturers

Georgia Democrats Respond to GOP’s Total Abortion Ban With ‘Testicular Bill of Rights’

June 9, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

State legislatures have been attacking women’s rights, so in the spring of 2019 a Democrat in Georgia’s legislature took creative action. The article at the link below says:  “Georgia Democratic Rep. Dar’shun Kendrick wants to change the discourse around Republicans’ total abortion ban with legislation that would strictly regulate men’s reproductive health care.” The article says:  “Some of the legislation Kendrick has asked legislative counsel to draft includes requiring men to obtain permission from their sex partner before obtaining a prescription for Viagra or other erectile dysfunction medications; making it aggravated assault for men to have sex without a condom; […]

Political parties and serious problems

May 9, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Both of the big political parties cause serious problems. Republican Party leaders deliberately and enthusiastically make problems worse. Republican Party members obediently follow along. Democratic Party members want to solve problems (Green New Deal, Medicare for All, Impeach Trump, promote diversity in the party, etc.) Democratic Party “leaders” refuse to solve those problems. Dem “leaders” rebuff their members – and wonder why Dems don’t win more elections.

Yes, we can organize more effectively at the grassroots for many important issues.

April 26, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Globally, nationally, and locally, we are confronted with very serious problems. Some people feel overwhelmed and disempowered, so they feel powerless to solve the problems.  But that only allows the horrible problems to get worse. I strongly support the opposite approach:  Recognize that WE CAN INDEED LEARN HOW TO ORGANIZE EFFECTIVELY at the grassroots level (“Think globally and act locally”) to solve the problems. Sometimes people and organizations merely vent or flail about with random activities without a clear strategy for how to make the political and social changes we want.  We can do better than that! Specifically, I seek […]

Let’s get our priorities straight. Trillions of dollars for what?

April 9, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

In order to get the Republican-dominated Senate to approve the New START Treaty, Obama committed the U.S. to replacing ALL of the U.S.’s nuclear weapons (the bombs, the bombers, missiles, submarines, etc.) with expensive new ones. The cost is likely to be about $1.7 TRILLION during the foreseeable future. In December 2017 Congress passed the Trump/Republican tax scam that is estimated to increase the U.S. deficit by a total of $3 TRILLION to $7 TRILLION in its first decade. In 1941 the U.S. jumped into World War II and abruptly stopped huge parts of the civilian economy and started massive […]

Overall, the U.S. is very rich. Poverty is inexcusable. We must change laws and policies to create a fair economy.

April 9, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

For decades people have kept saying that the U.S. is the richest country on earth. We still are. But tens of millions of Americans suffer poverty, homelessness, lack of health care, lack of hope, and — really — profound alienation from “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” The U.S. keeps falling short of what we promise.  We know it.  The victims of our economic, social and political systems know it.  The politicians know it. So why do the problems persist?  Some people are profiting from the chronic injustices that infect our economic, social and political […]

Anti-abortion laws oppress women. Now put the shoe on the other foot?

February 6, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

In recent years the U.S. government has restricted abortion rights, especially related to our international aid programs. Within the U.S., states have passed more than 400 restrictions to reduce abortion access and rights since 2010.  (Source:  Page 56 of The American Prospect’s Winter 2019 issue.)  See www.prospect.org for a very informative article on pages 56-60. Some states that severely restrict abortion are inadvertently CAUSING UNWANTED PREGNANCIES by failing to provide accurate sex education courses in schools.  Then when pregnancies occur, the women are denied a reasonable remedy.  This seems counter-productive.  Why don’t we REQUIRE that EVERY school provide ACCURATE sex […]

Why the U.S. House must push for VERY BOLD changes, not merely bi-partisan deals

January 25, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Moderates want House Democrats to settle for bi-partisan deals with the Republican-dominated Senate. If the House Democrats do that, they will be rebuffing the voters who gave them a mandate for VERY BOLD changes. They also will FAIL TO IDENTIFY how progressive Democrats are much better than conservative Republicans. Even if the Senate fails to pass VERY BOLD House legislation, the points will be made, and 2020’s voters will see who is really on their side, vs. who is on the side of the oppressors. https://www.thenation.com/article/democrats-congress-fundamental-reforms/?link_id=7&can_id=1d662460c0abb8939c5044c82927552b&source=email-pledge-update-for-bold-reforms-naacp-protest-yemen-vote-populism-wins-roma&email_referrer=email_468235&email_subject=pledge-update-for-bold-reforms-naacp-protest-yemen-vote-populism-wins-roma

Our systems are not “broken.” They’re working as intended. They are DELIBERATELY UNFAIR.

January 3, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

People keep saying that our nation’s systems are “broken.”  That is misleading.  They are NOT “broken.”  They are WORKING AS INTENDED!  They are DELIBERATELY UNFAIR! On issue after issue, politicians, mainstream media, and the general public keep saying that our systems are “broken.”  But if you look at how they are actually functioning — WHAT THEY ACTUALLY DO — and WHAT THEY ARE PREVENTING — and WHO HAS THE POWER and WHO BENEFITS from the status quo — you’ll see that these systems are NOT really “broken.”  They are serving the rich and the powerful and preventing the changes that […]

In January, urge Congress to pass HR 1 to get Big Money out of politics.

December 20, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

You have probably read information supporting HR 1, legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives that would push Big Money out of politics.  Many non-profit organizations that support democracy and other good things (environment, energy, peace, nuclear weapons, workers’ rights, human rights, the gun lobby, etc.) recognize that BIG MONEY CORRUPTION PREVENTS CONGRESS FROM ACCOMPLISHING WHAT WE WANT IT TO DO. HR 1 is a tremendously positive step forward for ALL of the issues we care about! Public Citizen (www.citizen.org), the non-profit org that Ralph Nader started in 1971, says the following in support of HR 1, and urges people […]

Creating “Medicare for All” would save $5.2 TRILLION over 10 years

December 19, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

https://www.nationofchange.org/2018/12/08/5-2-trillion-thats-the-savings-over-10-years-by-creating-a-medicare-for-all-system/ See this blog’s “Health Care Reform” section for several good articles. I especially recommend my December 2015 TV program, which makes a strong case for Universal Single-Payer instead of Obama’s weak Affordable Care Act.  Watch the informative interview and/or read a thorough summary of what we said at http://parallaxperspectives.org/tv-why-universal-single-payer-health-care-is-the-real-solution  The end of that thorough summary provides sources of additional information.

Why the U.S. House must push for VERY BOLD changes, not merely bi-partisan deals

December 19, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

In the November 2018 election American voters gave a STRONG MANDATE for VERY PROGRESSIVE ACTION by the U.S. House.  Our Representatives must deliver!!!
