The term “national security” is almost always ASSUMED to imply the need for more militarism, more fear of people in other countries, more willingness to fight wars, more military weapons, more military spending, and more nuclear weapons. Trump keeps screwing up. Trump keeps deceiving people. Everything he does is only for his own benefit. STOP the militarization of space!

Increasingly in recent decades the U.S. has been PROVOKING A NEW ARMS RACE IN SPACE, despite the treaty that prohibits militarizing “outer space.” Every October (in 2019 it’s October 5-12) an excellent non-profit organization organizes “Keep Space for Peace Week.”  This “International Week of Protest to Stop the Militarization of Space” features activities in many locations in the U.S. and elsewhere. The  Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space (www.space4peace.org) is very knowledgeable.  Their blog (http://space4peace.blogspot.com/) has more information and help for people who want to organize to protect space for peace.

GOOD NEWS! Anti-nuke group in Tennessee won their lawsuit against their nearby bomb plant!

This is a HUGE surprise of GOOD NEWS from the Oak Ridge Environmental Peace Alliance (OREPA)! For many years I have been reading OREPA’s newsletters and financially supporting their non-profit org in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. They have been opposing a major expansion of the nearby nuclear weapons manufacturing plant. The federal government’s plans for the plant were horribly reckless in many, many ways (including serious seismic dangers, which would be bad for a nuclear weapons manufacturing plant) – and horribly expensive. Twice in late summer 2019 the Olympia Coalition to Abolish Nuclear Weapons organized and staffed information booths at public events (Olympia’s Harbor Days from Fri. Aug. 30 to Sun. Sept. 1, and Olympia’s International Peace Day event on Sat. Sept. 21). I labeled six jars with different possible uses for our federal budget.  Our volunteers handed each visitor to our booth a stack of ten pennies and invited them to put the pennies into the various jars to show how the visitor would choose to spend the federal budget.
