Take these urgent actions in early March 2021

Most of us receive many e-mails urging us to take online actions to tell a governmental or business entity what to do.

These are especially urgent now in early March 2021 about several different issues.

#1:

Tell Congress to pass a special tax on extremely rich people.

Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Pramila Jayapal just announced their bold plan to pass a wealth tax. They’re going to need our help to pass it.

Billionaires made more than $900 billion during the pandemic. Warren’s plan would create a two percent tax on assets over $50 million dollars, which would generate $2.75 trillion over ten years. It won’t pass without a groundswell of support from the American people letting Congress know we want them to pass it. Will you speak out today?

Tell Congress: It’s time that the wealthiest Americans pay more taxes!

Urge Congress to cut military spending:

Within the Congress, several caucuses exist.  This e-mail supports the “Military Spending Reduction Caucus.”  Click to tell YOUR U.S. House and Senate members to join the caucus.  Let’s mobilize people-power to urge Congress to cut military spending.  I signed and hope you will add your name too.

Last summer, the U.S. public told pollsters it favored moving 10% of military spending to human and environmental needs, but the U.S. Congress voted down a proposal to do just that. Now President-Elect Joe Biden is proposing massive spending packages, to be funded primarily through debt, with no mention of the military budget.

Click here to ask your Representative and Senators to join the Military Spending Reduction Caucus being created by Congress Members Barbara Lee and Mark Pocan, and to insist on immediately moving at least 10% of military funding to urgent projects (including all assistance required by every worker impacted by this shift).

#3:

35 nations have troops in Afghanistan.  Click here to tell all 35 nations to remove their troops from Afghanistan.

The governments of Albania, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mongolia, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, UK, and US all still have troops in Afghanistan and need to remove them. These troops range in number from Slovenia’s 6 to the United States’ 2,500. Most countries have fewer that 100. Apart from the United States, only Germany has over 1,000. Only five other countries have more than 300.

Governments that used to have troops in this war but have removed them include New Zealand, France, Jordan, Croatia, Ireland, and Canada.  We plan to deliver a big THANK-YOU to every government that removes all of its troops from Afghanistan, along with the names and comments of every signer of this petition.  We plan to deliver a demand to remove all troops to every government that has not done so, along with the names and comments of every signer of this petition.

Tell Congress to urge Biden to IMMEDIATELY return to the “Iran nuclear deal” (the JCPOA)!

Joe Biden campaigned that he would rely on diplomacy.  But he is continuing Trump’s opposition to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA, the “Iran nuclear deal”) because Biden wants to pressure Iran instead of re-joining the JCPOA and engaging in honest diplomacy.  Trump’s bullying caused Iran’s voters to feel threatened, so they elected hard-liners to protect their national security from Trump’s threat of war.  Biden has appointed many war-hawks to powerful positions in his administration, so he is continuing to bully Iran.  Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) reintroduced the Iran Diplomacy Act, legislation that provides a path for President Biden’s diplomatic effort to return all sides to full-compliance with their commitments under the Iran Nuclear Deal. Please write to your members of Congress today and urge them to do everything in their power to support a return to the nuclear deal.

#5:

Cancel new nuclear weapons.  Use the money for health care instead.

The U.S. keeps saying we cannot afford health care, but Congress keeps wasting billions of dollars on nuclear weapons.  The U.S. is SPENDING MORE NOW ON NUCLEAR WEAPONS THAN WE DID AT THE PEAK OF THE COLD WAR.  The reckless, deadly spending is escalating again with a plan to spend NEARLY TWO BILLION DOLLARS on new nuclear weapons that could destroy nearly all life on earth!!!

The plan includes replacing ALL nuclear weapons (including Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs).  Now you can tell Congress a different message:  “Invest in Cures Before Missiles” is a different use of the term “ICBM.”  CLICK HERE to tell Congress to redirect taxpayer dollars to develop a Vaccine of Mass Prevention before we spend that money on a new, unneeded Weapon of Mass Destruction:  https://actionnetwork.org/letters/invest-in-cures-before-missiles?source=direct_link&&link_id=0&can_id=1d662460c0abb8939c5044c82927552b&email_referrer=email_1097041___subject_1474675&email_subject=support-investing-in-cures-before-missiles-today
