Since the 1970s extreme conservatives — including those in big business — have become very aggressive in building political power. The Powell Memo (if you don’t know what it is, a web search will quickly tell you) and extremely rich people led to the creation of very conservative and right-wing “think tanks” and media and organizing within the Republican Party.
Now they have taken over the Republican Party and the U.S. government: Congress, the Executive Branch (including cabinet members and agency heads), and the Supreme Court.
Part of their agenda has been to slash taxes for rich people and big business. This was partly in order to directly serve themselves (and the Republicans’ “political base”) and partly in order to starve government until it would be small enough to “drown in a bathtub,” as Grover Norquist has memorably advocated.
Liberals and Progressives must reverse that! We must RAISE TAXES on rich people and big businesses!

SIGN THIS PETITION TO HOLD CORPORATIONS ACCOUNTABLE:
On income tax day (April 15, 2019) a progressive labor union (www.cwa-union.org) sent an e-mail denouncing the Trump/Republican tax cut as a scam that hurt ordinary people and give billions of dollars to big business, and urging people to sign this petition telling Congress to bring corporate CEOs to testify to Congress about what they did with the money that Trump and the Republicans promised would be invested in new jobs: https://www.actionnetwork.org/letters/tell-congress-investigate-where-billions-in-tax-breaks-went?link_id=2&can_id=1d662460c0abb8939c5044c82927552b&source=email-guess-who-got-a-massive-tax-break-this-year-2&email_referrer=email_529586&email_subject=guess-who-got-a-massive-tax-break-this-year
SIGN PETITION TO REPEAL THE TRUMP TAX SCAM:
On April 2, 2019, CREDO Action sent an e-mail about the Trump/Republican tax scam they passed in December 2019. The e-mail urges you to SIGN A PETITION TO REPEAL IT. The e-mail said that — despite Trump’s huge promises — the White House just admitted it won’t actually deliver long-term growth. The admission was buried in the Trump regime’s latest economic forecast. HERE IS ANOTHER PETITION TO SIGN TO REPEAL IT:
SUPPORT S. 647, the “Tax Wall Street Act of 2019.” (After this info see the link for signing a petition.)
Public Citizen (www.citizen.org) urges people to support this federal legislation to place a tiny fee (one-tenth of one percent) on stock, bond and derivative transactions. It would generate more than $750 billion over the next decade — allowing us to make major new investments in American communities. For instance, the Wall Street tax could pay for:
• 1.2 million elementary school teachers for one year
• 1.8 million infrastructure jobs created for one year
• 1.4 million clean energy jobs created for one year
• Medical care for 9.7 million military veterans for one year
• Full four-year scholarships to three million low-income students
Also, by taxing these transactions, it would reduce the volatile trading that endangers economic stability. It would reduce risky casino-like trading.
SIGN THIS PETITION TO URGE YOUR U.S. SENATORS: Please co-sponsor the Wall Street Tax Act of 2019, which would raise nearly $777 billion over 10 years.
