Respect science. Base public policies on honest science. And envision more boldly than that too.

Trump’s war on science has hurt our nation and our public institutions:  https://truthout.org/articles/trumps-attacks-on-science-have-scarred-our-public-institutions/?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=abae6ed1-a9a4-41f5-a9d3-2d3f636cbbbe

Trump Officials Tried To ‘Cripple’ The CDC’s COVID-19 Response, House Panel Says.  Trump appointees sought to change reports “in a misguided effort to achieve herd immunity,” House investigators found.  SEE THIS:  https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-cdc-covid-19-response_n_5fe0d20dc5b60d416344a7d0?ncid=newsltushpmgpolitics

In 4 years Trump escalated his corruption over the CDC. Trump’s biases increasingly overruled scientists and medical professionals.  This article does not mention the urgent need for Biden to restore honest science instead of Trumpian corruption at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).  Trump corrupted EVERY federal agency.  Voters must demand that Biden IMMEDIATELY FIRE ALL of Trump’s appointees and VIGOROUSLY RESTORE honesty, valid science, and the broad public interest at all federal agencies.  https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/12/19/2003082/-Oh-nothing-Just-Ivanka-Trump-overruling-scientists-at-the-CDC-That-s-all?detail=emaildkre

This news came out in June 2020:  Dr. Fauci said White House ordered Nat’l Inst. of Health to CANCEL Coronavirus research funding.  https://readersupportednews.org/news-section2/318-66/63664-white-house-ordered-nih-to-cancel-coronavirus-research-funding-fauci-says

Much governmental corruption and environmental abuse occurs because many corporations and politicians support greed instead of honest science or the well-being of people and ecosystems.  I respect and support honest science.  We must base public policies on honest science.

But science is not enough. We must see Planet Earth as sacred, not just a resource.  Thomas Berry wrote:  “One of the reasons we’re destroying the planet is that it has lost its sacred dimension for us. The planet as given to us by science is a physical reality essentially meaningless in itself. It’s a resource for our physical activity.”

A credible source summarized what the Washington Post and CNN reported:  The CDC’s Covid-19 guidance during the Trump administration was not grounded in science or “primarily authored” by staff, according to a review ordered by Biden’s CDC director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, as part of her pledge to restore public trust in the agency. The review found that some guidance “used less direct language than available evidence supported,” “needed to be updated to reflect the latest scientific evidence,” and “presented the underlying science base for guidance inconsistently.” (Washington Post / CNN)

On March 16, 2021, the Union of Concerned Scientists (www.ucsusa.org) issued this statement:

Over the last four years, the federal government’s ability to make science-based decisions deteriorated. Having an administration that ignored science led to widespread “brain drain” at agencies as staff left their positions and were not always replaced. Low-income communities and communities of color, who already face the disproportionate burden of health and environmental hazards, have been made even more unsafe as scientific capacity and enforcement of environmental regulations dwindled.

We know that confronting our nation’s most pressing problems, from the coronavirus pandemic to climate change, requires federal agencies operating at full capacity with the scientists they need to carry out their mission. Tomorrow, Andrew Rosenberg, director of the Center for Science and Democracy at UCS, will be testifying at a hearing to tell Congress just that. (Tune in at 10:00 a.m. ET.)

As a science advocate, add your voice and call on Congress to strengthen the scientific workforce in federal agencies.

Congress should also act to help federal agencies diversify their workforce and revitalize the recruitment pipeline that brings scientists into federal science jobs.

Tell your members of Congress to prioritize strengthening the scientific workforce at federal agencies. The safety of our communities and the health of our environment depend on it.

On March 16, 2021, I sent this message to Congress:  Trump was HOSTILE TO SCIENCE because scientists pursue truth.  Trump was obsessed with IMPOSING HIS OWN BIASES — and CORRUPT BUSINESS WISHES — upon federal agencies.  In order to do that, TRUMP HORRIBLY SUPPRESSED SCIENTISTS and replaced honest science with BALONEY AND CORRUPTION.  Now YOU MUST RESTORE HONEST SCIENCE — and HIRE MANY COMPETENT SCIENTISTS — for many federal agencies, so they can SERVE THE BROAD PUBLIC INTEREST and SOLVE OUR NATION’S PROBLEMS.
