PART 2, the December 2018 program, will focus more on solutions. SEE THE LINK BELOW for a VERY THOROUGH, BLISTERING CRITIQUE of the worldview that has increasingly dominated U.S. politics. Parts 1 and 2 of this program explains that the […]

Sign petition to stop Arizona from distorting science education in K-12 schools

September 22, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Climate deniers keep trying to chip away at honest science. Now they are trying to mislead students in K-12 schools. The truth of the climate crisis is scientifically proven, but Arizona’s new draft science standards for K-12 students eliminate standards focused on evidence-based climate change. This effort is part of an ongoing attack on the right of students to learn fact-based climate science in school. See more information and sign the petition at this link: https://act.sierraclub.org/actions/ClimateParents?actionId=AR0126535&id=7010Z00000278SpQAI&data=df2b24d2eab0c9ae725e9d80198831b7f5871e8d13fef1c8263bee62b6e32940b1fb8e435c9d740d284892a5c14c9a9c&utm_medium=email&utm_source=sierraclub&utm_campaign=climateparents&utm_content=NATclimatescience

August 27, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

SEPTEMBER 2018 “Local Governments Must Protect the Environment” This month’s interview on “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” will inform, inspire and motivate us to urge our local governments to do a better job of protecting the environment. People everywhere really do care about the environment, but environmental problems persist all the way from the global level down to the local level. This interview will help you understand why local governments often fail to protect the environment – and how we can be more effective in urging them to protect it. We can indeed think globally and act locally. Three knowledgeable, insightful guests […]

“Base Public Policy on Honest Science”

June 24, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

The July 2018 episode of “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV program helps us understand how science works. It also helps us push governments to use honest science as a basis for smart and wise public policies.  Governments should make decisions based on what is actually true, not corrupted by financial greed or ideological pressures. To watch the interview, click this link:  WATCH THE INTERVIEW HERE. To read the thorough summary of what we said in the interview — and see a list of excellent sources of information, click this link:  2018.07 Program Summary — SCIENCE. Sierra Club’s statement about Trump’s contempt for G-7 and the climate

June 9, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

In mid-June leaders of 7 rich nations are gathering in Canada for a global economic summit. All of the other leaders come from business-friendly political parties, but Trump is so extremely beholden to fossil fuel companies that he denies that the climate crisis is real, and he rejects climate science. Trump arrived a bit late and blamed our economic allies and previous presidents for trade problems.  He left the G-7 summit early, before the world leaders discuss the climate or oceans. Here is information from the Sierra Club, along with a statement from that organization: https://www.sierraclub.org/press-releases/2018/06/report-trump-only-leader-g-7-summit-who-refuses-accept-climate-science

9 Ways Authoritarianism Is Taking Hold Under Trump

May 31, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

As you know, I read a huge amount of information.  Thom Hartmann’s article at the link below consolidates much solid information into CRUCIALLY IMPORTANT information that the American people need to understand. Trump and Trumpism are imposing horrible authoritarianism upon the U.S.  This is an extremely serious — actually existential — danger to American freedom and constitutional democracy. Trump’s authoritarianism abuses many aspects of American society. The article below connects many of the issues we care about, including peace, social justice, environment/climate, economics, and so forth.  The article ends with a call for nonviolent organizing to rise up against Trump’s […]

We urgently, desperately need HONEST SCIENCE so we can solve problems

May 7, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Do you remember the decades-old saying, “Garbage in — Garbage out”?  It referred to the problems with computer systems that receive inputs that are not accurate and — as a result — produce inaccurate outputs. The remedy, of course, is to make sure we have valid, accurate inputs in order to produce good results. Nowadays, the Trump/Republican federal government and many state governments are stuffed with climate deniers, dogmatic religious extremists, and other people who are subservient to special interests.  Instead of open-mindedly and honestly trying to solve problems, they exploit governments in order to distort public policies for corrupt […]

U.S.’s long history of anti-intellectualism is bearing rotten fruit now

May 7, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

In 1962 the great historian Richard Hofstadter published his book Anti-Intellectualism in American Life.  I bought it in about 1970 and always wanted to read it.  Now I am starting to read it because its message is so horribly relevant now. A long stream of anti-intellectualism has hurt the U.S. in various ways throughout our history.  It seems to be worsening now, as the federal government has made the U.S. a “rogue nation” that denies science in many aspects of public policy (environment, climate, health issues, etc.) and deletes honest, accurate scientific information from the federal government’s websites.  Under Trump […]

Here is how to link nuclear weapons with other hot issues

April 23, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

We are committed to vigorous grassroots organizing to abolish nuclear weapons. A smart strategy is to link this issue to other hot issues that people care about. I wrote – and am attaching – 3 flyers that accomplish this.  See these 3 links: Stop gun violence — Stop nuclear weapons Climate crisis and nuclear weapons are two existential threats.docx Many scientists oppose nuclear weapons We could replicate this kind of strategy for other issues we are working on. I printed hundreds of copies and handed out (and recruited some other volunteers to hand out) a great many copies of the […]

Protecting science from corruption is URGENT and CRUCIAL

April 9, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

A huge number of scientists wrote a powerful statement in 2017 explaining how “Human beings and the natural world are on a collision course.”  They strengthened the statement in 2018 and now 20,000 scientists signed on to this “Warning to Humanity.”  This is yet one more reason why we need honest science to drive public policy.  Read the “Warning to Humanity” article at https://www.ecowatch.com/warning-to-humanity-scientists-2544973158.html?utm_source=EcoWatch+List&utm_campaign=aaad04f9dd-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_49c7d43dc9-aaad04f9dd-85369701 Republicans’ partisan bias against science and reality:  https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2018/3/29/1752981/-Lies-have-a-conservative-bias-Republicans-up-their-war-on-science?detail=emaildkre The government needs good, honest science in order to devise smart public policy. However, the agencies under Trump have been slashing the numbers of competent scientists, failing to consider […]

TV: “Consequences of Denying Hard Realities”

December 2, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

In our world — and in our nation — many hard realities exist.  But too often, people try to avoid dealing with them.  Denial is rampant.  Denying hard realities means we fail to solve the problems.  It also causes psychological and even spiritual problems. This is the topic of Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation’s April 2013 TV interview. Three wise, insightful guests explore the topic: John Van Eenwyk is an Episcopal priest, a Ph.D. clinical psychologist, and Clinical Director of the International Trauma Treatment Program. He has special insights and skills to help people deal with severe trauma, such as war […]
