A new online course — “War Abolition 101” — begins on January 13, 2020. SIGN UP NOW.

One of the great peace organizations that is not very well known is “World BEYOND War.”  They organize by bringing together to understand and educate other people that WAR IS NOT NECESSARY.  WE CAN INDEED ABOLISH WAR.  They are a global network of volunteers, activists, and allied organizations advocating for actually abolishing the very institution of war.  See much information at www.worldbeyondwar.org.  Sign up for their fascinating e-mail list.

Many people do not even know that WE CAN ABOLISH WAR.  But even many peace supporters do not know how to change from the war-making that is embedded into our government, our economy and our culture into a CULTURE OF PEACE.

PLEASE SIGN UP NOW for their 6-week online course, which will start on January 13.  This course will give you insights and talking points to address tough questions about how we move towards a world BEYOND war. Leading experts and changemakers from around the world will guide you through weekly topics. We’ll explore the strategies needed to demilitarize, manage conflict nonviolently, and cultivate a culture of peace.

Their website includes a very short video about the course.

Acquiring new knowledge is just the first part of learning. The second piece is putting ideas into practice. Course participants are encouraged to participate in guided discussions on the online chat room. And short weekly written assignments will help you test out your talking points.

The 6-week course will debunk the myths that war is inevitable, beneficial, just, or necessary, and offer its alternatives. We’ll dig deep into the environmental impact of war, which is a leading contributor to the climate crisis. We’ll also discuss the economic cost of war, to the tune of $2 trillion a year.

War isn’t going away on its own. What must we understand about the war system if we are to dismantle it? How can we become more effective advocates for peace?
