Workshop #2 (Sunday May 1) — LINKS to readings for Workshop #2 and ZOOM LINKS

I’m looking forward to Workshop #2 NEXT SUNDAY MAY 1, 2022.  Workshop #2 is titled, “How to Strategize and Organize Effective Grassroots Movements.”  The 1:30 session will pertain to a variety of issues.  The 5:00 session will ESPECIALLY FOCUS ON BUILDING A MOVEMENT TO ABOLISH NUCLEAR WEAPONS.

Each 2-hour workshop in this 6-part series (“Nonviolent Grassroots Organizing”) includes a lot of substantive information, inspiration, and practical usefulness.  Each workshop is supplemented with some of the best resources I have gathered (and many that I have written) in the past 50 years.

Unlike school “homework” assignments that are mandatory, these are not mandatory, but I do enthusiastically encourage each participant to read these because they flesh out the substance of each workshop.  You will probably want to save some of these for later use, because they are that practical.

I encourage you to read these resources before you take Workshop #2.  A few of these are VERY IMPORTANT to read before Workshop #2 on Sunday May 1.

See the attachments to help you gain the most from this workshop.  These items will be VERY USEFUL for you to read BEFORE workshop Session #2.  (The THIRD ITEM ATTACHED HERE is VERY LONG, so do not wait until the last minute!  But it is crucial for understanding next week’s Session #2.)

During Session #1 I mentioned Gene Sharp.  This article is very important — a crucial point for our entire series of workshops:  Gene Sharp’s Theory of Power

More than three decades ago I wrote the second item (“MAP article reprinted from 9-87 issue…”):  MAP article reprinted from 9-87 issue of the South Sound Alliance

It’s a good introduction to the next two items about the Movement Action Plan (MAP).  These items are the most important ones to read BEFORE our next workshop:  Movement Action Plan (MAP) in 41-page .pdf format  AND THIS:  MAP — Summary of MAP’s EIGHT STAGES — 11-inch 2-3-20 version

During our next workshop I’ll also mention the next two items about the “Four Roles of Social Activism”:  Four Roles of Social Activism — Article edited from the source  AND THIS:  Four Roles of Social Activism — 1-page diagram

I devised and wrote the next item “(Focusing & Tailoring Our Outreach”) to help us devise strategies for reaching out to different kinds of people:  Focusing & Tailoring Our Outreach

I wrote this article to help us in practical, strategic ways:  Figure out how to move the elites and how to move the public

Please read at least the first four items BEFORE Session #2.

You can read the others either before or after.

I will open each Zoom meeting early enough so you can join as early as 15 minutes before the scheduled starting time, so we can make sure your equipment is working well, and we can enjoy informal conversation before we START PROMPTLY at the scheduled starting time.

Workshops to increase your skills for “Nonviolent Grassroots Organizing” start today.  I’m sending this to people who have signed up – or at least expressed strong interest – in my series of workshops.  Some of you want the MULTI-ISSUE series, and some want the workshops that focus especially on NUCLEAR WEAPONS.  These links let you click on whichever series you want.
