Trump has been laying out the steps for starting a war against Iran:

He has been lying about Iran.

He pulled out from the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA), which had been working well.

He hired John Bolton to be his National Security Advisor. For many years Bolton has vigorously urged war against Iran.

He hired John Pompeo, an anti-Iran hawk, to be his Secretary of State.

He ordered the Pentagon to develop plans for a war against Iran.
-
He is subservient to Israel and Saudi Arabia, both of which want a war against Iran.
Congress has failed to take strong action to prevent war.
The American people must strongly, nonviolently prevent war!

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) — known as “the Iran nuclear deal” — was working well. It had been agreed upon through diplomacy among Iran, the U.S., several of our European allies, and Russia. This is the kind of diplomatic agreements that the world needs. Trump’s withdrawal was stupid and counter-productive. Iran was not developing nuclear weapons — and the international inspectors kept proving that — but now Trump’s withdrawal from the JCPOA will make it easier for Iran to start if they want. Trump’s reckless withdrawal from the JCPOA could lead to the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
Inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have had unprecedented access to monitor Iran’s nuclear activities. They have used the most advanced monitoring technologies and have conducted the most intrusive regime of nuclear inspections any country has ever agreed to. The IAEA’s inspectors have repeatedly concluded that Iran was complying with the JCPOA.
But Trump has been lying about this during his campaign and after taking office — as he has been lying about nearly everything else for the past several years. He has vented his ignorance and dictatorial approach by unilaterally pulling out of a highly successful international diplomatic agreement. Trump has set the stage for a U.S. war against Iran.
For a long time Iran has been committed to Iran has been committed to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. (This is in contrast to Israel which has NOT ratified the NPT and actually DOES have nuclear weapons. The rest of the world knows about the U.S.’s hypocrisy, even if U.S. politicians and media ignore our nation’s hypocrisy and fail to tell the American people the truth about this.
Iran was abiding by the nuclear deal. Trump’s withdrawal and new sanctions antagonized other nations.

In September 2018 Trump and Bolton ramped up their war rhetoric. Trump spoke to a roomful of world leaders at the United Nations and demanded that they support his goal of “regime change” in Iran. (“Regime change” is a euphemism for OVERTHROWING ANOTHER NATION’S GOVERNMWENT. That sounds blatant, so the euphemism tries to soften the wording, while the cruelty of violating international law and killing people still remain.)
After Trump spoke, his National Security Advisor, ultra-hawk John Bolton followed up by threatening that Iran would have “HELL to PAY.”
Decent people must prevent Trump and Bolton from starting a war against Iran.
In September 2018 U.S. Senator Tom Udall introduced a bill — S. 3517 — opposing Trump’s war against Iran. In February 2019 I verified that the bill has the same number in the 2019 Congress.
