To reduce gun violence, the U.S. must STOP THE WARS and CREATE A NONVIOLENT FOREIGN POLICY!

January 19, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

Overwhelmingly huge percentages of the American people support various proposals for reducing gun violence (background checks, denying guns to domestic violence abusers, banning assault weapons, etc.). Several nationwide, statewide and local groups keep promoting these worthy proposals.  I support them. But they are OVERLOOKING THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM! The U.S.’s VIOLENT, MILITARISTIC FOREIGN POLICY assumes that shooting people solves problems!  Our federal government spends BILLIONS OF OUR TAX DOLLARS to promote that mistaken notion.  The federal government SETS A BAD EXAMPLE for ordinary people who follow the government’s bad example that SHOOTING PEOPLE would solve their problems! If the […]

On Christmas Day 1914, British & German soldiers practiced PEACE during World War I

December 24, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Some people know this story, but many people do not. It is indeed possible for soldiers fighting a brutal war to STOP — AND PRACTICE PEACE — even for one day.  On Christmas Day, 1914, British and German soldiers fighting brutal trench warfare during World War I stopped, laid down their weapons, got out of their trenches, and joined together face-to-face to enjoy human solidarity. If they can do it for one day, why can’t we do that EVERY day — and STOP WAR ALTOGETHER?     Read this article:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_truce   I RECOMMEND THIS SONG VERY HIGHLY!!!  “Christmas in […]

How to achieve peace and true security

December 13, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

People keep worrying about “national security.”  But that is a dead end — and a misleading distraction — unless we understand that MILITARISM ITSELF IS THE PROBLEM and that our nation can be secure ONLY if we help the rest of the world to be secure in more profound ways than mere militarism can accomplish. See the insightful article I wrote at this link: Article on peace and true security

After a man who threatened Rep. Ilhan Omar pleaded guilty, she asks for compassion in his sentencing

November 26, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar came to the U.S. at the age of 10 as a refugee from Somalia.  She is Muslim and African.  She is one of the most progressive and humane members of Congress, but Trump and the right wing have been relentlessly attacking her. A man threatened to shoot her to death.  He was convicted of his crime, and she practiced Restorative Justice by asking for compassion when the judge was sentencing him. Reject authoritarian rule and the idolatry of worshiping nationalism.

October 2, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Historically the U.S. was created — and our Constitution’s First Amendment adopted — to protect us from any official religion.  Nowadays, the Religious Right is pushing hard to make their version of Christianity into the U.S.’s official religion. That would overturn 230 years of U.S. principled separation between Church and State.  And it would hurt many people’s human rights. But some people have said that the U.S. has — in effect — the truly dominant religion of Nationalism. Extreme nationalism corrupts many aspects of that nation’s society in many ways.  It causes people to hurt people of other nations.  The […]

How to stay focused on OUR message and not let an opponent create the soundbite that they want

September 22, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

For EVERY issue we work on, we need to COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY with various kinds of audiences.  Sometimes this includes people who disagree with us — and sometimes people who want to attack or derail us. In order to make progress, we need to stand strong on OUR messages and not letting anyone hijack the conversation or distract the other listeners.  This is true whether we’re talking about Universal Single-Payer health care, changing our economic system, protecting the climate, abolishing nuclear weapons, or any other issue. HERE IS A GOOD EXAMPLE: Universal Single-Payer health care (“Medicare for All”) would save […]

Why does North Korea want nuclear weapons?

September 14, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

This article provides useful information:  https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/8/16/1879574/-Why-North-Korea-Wants-Nuclear-Weapons?detail=emaildkcc   Also, I wrote this to explain clearly why North Korea wants their nuclear weapons: When North Korea conducts a missile test, or when North Korea’s nuclear weapons get into the news, it is typical for the American people — and our media and our politicians — to assume that North Korea is up to no good, that North Korea is an aggressive threat, etc. Actually, we would do much better thinking — and much better public policy-making — if we were to understand WHY North Korea wants nuclear weapons. The American people — […]

Short article: The currently dominant worldview is hurting our society in many ways.

September 4, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Our society is suffering in many, many ways.  The problems are all around us — and they are interconnected.  They are rooted in a worldview that has been dominating the U.S. (and some other nations) increasingly in recent decades. I wrote a long article about this.  Here is a very short article that summarizes a few of the main points.  I published it in a recent issue of Works in Progress (www.olywip.org): This currently dominant worldview is hurting us.

Korea: Recent information, insights and recommendations

August 17, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Diplomacy with North Korea should include reuniting families separated in the early 1950s. See this article:  https://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/foreign-policy/455595-reuniting-families-is-a-critical-step-in-diplomacy-with   Urge Congress to finally END the Korean War, which has never been officially ended. Most Americans — and probably most members of Congress — do not know that THE KOREAN WAR WAS NEVER OFFICIALLY ENDED.  A truce was proclaimed about 70 years ago, but the war is OFFICIALLY still underway.  NOW WE MUST FORMALLY AND EXPLICITLY END THE WAR! The Korean Peninsula needs stable peace.  On June 30, 2019, Trump visited North Korea, which was a positive step, but nobody trusts Trump […]

Pass the law that will allow law suits against gun manufacturers – Sign the Petition

August 17, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Conservatives believe in the glories of the “market” in driving public policies.  But they avoid using “market” solutions for certain kinds of issues. Let’s make gun manufacturers LEGALLY AND FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE for the expensive damage their products cause?  Several years ago cigarette manufacturers were held responsible and provided funding for state governments.  Gun manufacturers impose huge costs upon individual victims and their families, and also local governments (policing, courts, etc.), and health providers (hospitals, insurance companies, etc.).   See more information and sign a petition is at this link: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/95d58ea293aa01df1dcbb603a2f65721dc330525/?link_id=1&can_id=1d662460c0abb8939c5044c82927552b&source=email-firstname-default-friend-pass-the-law-that-will-allow-law-suits-against-gun-manufacturers&email_referrer=email_594753&email_subject=firstname-default-friend-pass-the-law-that-will-allow-law-suits-against-gun-manufacturers

Links to several articles about warhawk John Bolton

June 9, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

This article about “John Bolton, Pyromaniac” says it would be crazy to hire a chronic pyromaniac to be fire chief, but that’s what Trump did to the U.S. when he hired John Bolton to be his National Security Advisor.  See this article:  https://inkstickmedia.com/john-bolton-pyromaniac/”   The article at the following link says, “The Most Dangerous Man in the World Is Trump’s National Security Adviser,” and it also says, “On Venezuela and Iran, Donald Trump is the adult in the room next to John Bolton.”  Here is the link:  https://www.asiatimes.com/2019/05/opinion/the-most-dangerous-man-in-the-world/?_=2265639   This article says, “Fear the Mustache: Why Bolton Makes Even Donald Trump […]

John Bolton, Trump’s National Security Advisor, Is Horribly Wrong and Eager for More Wars.

June 9, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

John Bolton is itching for a war against Iran, Venezuela, and other places.  He has a long history of being horribly wrong on international issues, opposing diplomacy, and lusting after more wars. Bolton is so extreme that later in May and early June 2019 Trump felt the need to tone down his own hawkish rhetoric and threats. This article from May 2019 says John Bolton is “itching for a war.”  He threatened Iran with “unrelenting force” as U.S. bombers were being deployed to the Middle East.  He wants to provoke any excuse to start a war. See this article: https://www.nationofchange.org/2019/05/06/itching-for-a-war-bolton-threatens-iran-with-unrelenting-force-as-us-bombers-deployed-to-middle-east/ […]

Replace the “national security” scheme with “TRUE Security.”

June 4, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

The U.S. is obsessed with “national security” and wastes about half of our discretionary budget on militarism, nuclear weapons, covert actions, and violence around the world. This obsession and waste cause much neglect and suffering within the U.S. as well as abuse and endless wars and suffering around the world. We must replace the wasteful, ineffective, and downright counterproductive “national security” scheme with a fresh approach:  “TRUE Security.” See this: TRUE Security TABLE.doc

Korean people — North and South — want peace. Don’t let the U.S. gov’t reduce them to a bargaining chip.

May 17, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Technically, the Korean War never ended. A ceasefire occurred in the early 1950s, but the war never officially ended. The De-Militarized Zone (DMZ) has been the most heavily militarized border for more than half a century. Unlike many nations, the people of Korea – North and South – are all THE SAME ethnic group. The boundary is a cruel Cold War relic that divided families. Virtually all Koreans want to be together. This article notes the one-year anniversary of an important joint statement for peace and reconciliation. Since the early 1950s the U.S. government has arrogantly played politics instead of […]
