U.S. nuclear weapons polices have been RECKLESS, DANGEROUS, CRAZY for decades

April 5, 2024 GlenAnderson 0

This long article has fascinating – and frightening – information. Almost no Americans know how horribly reckless, dangerous, crazy the U.S. policies for nuclear weapons have been for many decades. This article was posted March 27, 2024: America’s Nuclear War Plan in the 1960s Was Utter Madness. It Still Is. We rarely consider the dangers these days, but our existence depends on it. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2024/03/nuclear-war-scenario-book-siop-weapons-annie-jacobsen/

Organizing with 100% nonviolence works better than using even small amounts of violence

April 3, 2024 GlenAnderson 0

Many people assume there is a spectrum of organizing methods ranging from 100% nonviolence (nice, but not strong enough) to violence (powerful and effective.)  ACTUALLY, THAT ASSUMPTION IS FALSE!!! Actually, RESEARCH HAS PROVEN that adding any violence to an effort REDUCES the likelihood of winning.   I highly recommend the easy-to-read book by Erica Chenoweth and Maria J. Stephan – Why Civil Resistance Works – in which they researched a century of major campaigns for change.  They found that those that were scrupulously 100% nonviolent were much more likely to win than those that included some violence.  I mention this […]

Martin Luther King Was a Radical, Not a Moderate

January 13, 2024 GlenAnderson 0

King called himself a democratic socialist. He believed that America needed a “radical redistribution of economic and political power.” https://www.commondreams.org/views/2021/12/25/martin-luther-king-was-radical-not-moderate?vgo_ee=k2jIECcPP24SvUHOjogvWM%2Fa8rzVrD8A28fuZdXegaA%3D

How the Vietnam War pushed MLK to embrace global justice, not only civil rights at home

January 13, 2024 GlenAnderson 0

How the Vietnam War pushed MLK to embrace global justice, not only civil rights at home It is a radical concept of love that demands we embrace those we know and those we don’t, to acknowledge, as King said, “that all life is interrelated, that somehow we’re caught in an inescapable network of mutuality tied in a single garment of destiny.” https://www.nationofchange.org/2022/01/13/how-the-vietnam-war-pushed-mlk-to-embrace-global-justice-not-only-civil-rights-at-home/

MLK was more radical and bold than “I have a dream.” See this.

January 13, 2024 GlenAnderson 0

Ever since the Civil Rights Movement’s era, I have appreciated King’s strong, bold, radical message. I have read his books and studied him extensively.  I know a number of people who had worked very closely with him during the Movement, including the older white man sitting next to him on the first integrated bus in Montgomery, Alabama, in December 1956. For too many years people want to water him down to the “Dream” speech, because a “dream” is something not real – something possibly for the future – something that does not compel radical change now.  That is why the […]

MLK’s speech when receiving Nobel Peace Prize on Dec. 11, 1964

January 13, 2024 GlenAnderson 0

In case you have not read this for a while, here it is again. It is always relevant and powerful.   Martin Luther King .Jr., delivered this speech on Dec. 11, 1964, when receiving Nobel Peace Prize   The quest for peace and justice It is impossible to begin this lecture without again expressing my deep appreciation to the Nobel Committee of the Norwegian Parliament for bestowing upon me and the civil rights movement in the United States such a great honor. Occasionally in life there are those moments of unutterable fulfillment which cannot be completely explained by those symbols […]

Pope Francis keeps speaking BOLDLY FOR PEACE!

December 26, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

Pope Francis message for 2023 Christmas included this: “To say “yes” to the Prince of Peace, then, means saying “no” to war, to every war and to do so with courage, to the very mindset of war, an aimless voyage, a defeat without victors, an inexcusable folly. This is what war is: an aimless voyage, a defeat without victors, an inexcusable folly. To say “no” to war means saying “no” to weaponry. The human heart is weak and impulsive; if we find instruments of death in our hands, sooner or later we will use them. And how can we even […]

Nuclear power is ABSOLUTELY NOT a remedy for the climate crisis! See these highly informative resources.

December 26, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

The nuclear power industry has fooled many politicians — and much of the mainstream media — into thinking that nuclear power is a remedy for the climate crisis.  It absolutely is NOT. I collected many smart, informative information resources debunking the scam of nuclear power as a remedy for the climate crisis.  See the links in this document:  Nuclear Power Is NOT a Remedy for the Climate Crisis   For your convenience, I have also copied the links here:   Triple nuclear plan lands with a thud:  December 19, 2023:  https://beyondnuclear.org/triple-nuclear-plan-lands-with-a-thud/   Biden wants to TRIPLE nuclear power!  He must […]

U.N. Update on Nuclear Weapons Treaty

December 25, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

The January 2024 TV program in the “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” series provides  the newest update about a powerful, inspiring, exciting worldwide movement to abolish all nuclear weapons. Nine nations in the world have nuclear weapons.  Most of the world’s nations are angry at them for holding the entire world hostage with the threat of destroying the world in nuclear war. In July 2017 the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly approved the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).  Now 69 nations have ratified the Treaty and are bringing its strong requirements into their own national laws. Just recently – […]

How to discuss global issues without “triggering” a negative dogmatic reaction

December 4, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

During a recent peace vigil in downtown Olympia, I held a sign:  “New treaty prohibits nuclear weapons.”  A pedestrian came along and struck up a conversation.  We talked for about 20 minutes about a wide range of issues. One of his recurring points led me to post this message to my blog. Many people in the peace movement want to transcend narrow nationalism and affirm “world citizenship.” The person I talked with kept expressing disagreement with the “globalists” who want to dominate the world.  In our conversation I got him to clarify that what he was opposed to was “global […]
