Sign this newer petition for the United Nations to investigate U.S. abuses at Mexican border

December 16, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

On December 6 I posted to my blog a petition you could sign, urging the United Nations to investigate the U.S.’s abuses at our Mexican border.  If you haven’t signed it yet, please do. Now here is another petition with a similar message.  Sign this petition urging the United Nations to investigate violations of refugees’ rights at the Mexican border. https://somos.presente.org/petitions/launch-a-un-investigation-into-the-violation-of-refugee-rights-at-the-mexican-border/?akid=6102.507465.49trUH&rd=1&source=mid6102&t=7

URGENT: Sign petition for the U.N. to investigate human rights violations at the border

December 6, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Trump keeps violating human rights of immigrants, and especially people seeking asylum or refugee status.  Decent people must stop Trump’s cruelty and violations of human rights along the U.S. southern border.  A petition at this link calls upon the United Nations to investigate those violations of human rights: https://act.credoaction.com/sign/un_investigation?t=5&akid=30830%2E8825164%2EzuIrqm International law protects people’s right to seek asylum in another country.  But Trump VIOLATES INTERNATIONAL LAW by attacking them with tear gas and rubber bullets.  He uses these weapons against unarmed refugee children and families. An advocacy organization also reports this: The Trump regime’s “metering” system is causing major delays, confusion […]

Substitute PEACE instead of our militaristic foreign policy

December 4, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

The U.S.’s militaristic foreign policy does NOT work. It makes problems worse and causes more problems. It wastes money. The document linked here explains why we should replace our militaristic foreign policy with a commitment to peace, human rights, and other good things. Notes for Substituting Peace Instead of the U.S.’s Militaristic Foreign Policy Near the end of that document I explain the reasons why we should replace the U.S.’s militaristic “National Security” model with a NONVIOLENT model of “TRUE Security.”  For a one-page summary distinguishing these two models, see this link: “TRUE Security TABLE”           […]

PART 2 of “Choose a Better Worldview to Build a Better World”

November 30, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Our nation and world are in a horrible mess.  The December 2018 episode of “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV series examines how to solve the problems. A person or an entire society has a “worldview” — a way of seeing reality — that strongly directs their behavior and public policy.  The worldview that currently dominates the U.S. government and society has caused escalating greed, corruption, cruelty, oppression, war, and other bad things.  Instead, we need to replace that worldview with its opposite — a worldview that is humane, compassionate, peaceful, fair to everyone, and environmentally sustainable. An unjust society seeks to […]

A psychiatrist thinks we should treat alt-right bigotry like a disease.

November 25, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

The psychiatrist in the article linked at the end of this blog post thinks we should treat alt-right bigotry like a disease.  This would help us understand how to use public health methodologies for a solution to alt-right bigotry.. He says alt-right bigotry is not technically a discrete medical disease, but that “there are good reasons to treat bigotry as a public health problem.”  He says, “some of the approaches we take toward controlling the spread of disease may be applicable to pathological bigotry: for example, by promoting self-awareness of bigotry and its adverse health consequences.” “[W]hat if, in an […]

We Can Replace Cynicism and Despair with Empowerment and Hope

November 6, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Our world is in a serious mess.  We are suffering from a number of big serious problems. It is easy to feel powerless and despair. But if we let the oppressors get us down, we’ll be even worse off. The good news is that WE CAN INDEED ESCAPE THAT TRAP. WE CAN INDEED EMPOWER OURSELVES AND MOVE AHEAD. I wrote the following document more than a year ago, and it is still valid. Please read and share this: We Can Replace Cynicism and Despair with Empowerment and Hope

We Can Empower Ourselves to Replace the Current Cruelty and Corruption with Truth, Compassion, Fairness and Democracy

November 4, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Instead of the Cruelty and Corruption Being Dumped upon Our Nation, What Better Values and Policies Do We Want the U.S. to Affirm? Let’s Actively Work to Restore Truth, Compassion, Fairness and Democracy! Glen Anderson wrote this article in the spring of 2017, a few months into the Trump regime. Its message is still valid. Hard realities are settling upon us. It’s not just the new Executive Branch filled with ignorant and corrupt people who want to destroy the government’s ability to serve the broad public interest. It’s also most of Congress, which is fully complicit. And it’s the mainstream […]

A blistering critique of U.S. politics! PART 1: “Choose a Better Worldview to Build a Better World”

October 30, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

You can watch the November 2018 episode of the TV program for my series “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” through a link on this blog post — or on TCTV cable channel 22 in Thurston County. (See info below.) This is PART 1 of a 2-part topic, “Choose a Better Worldview to Build a Better World.” It focuses mostly on the problems. PART 2, the December 2018 program, will focus more on solutions. SEE THE LINK BELOW for a VERY THOROUGH, BLISTERING CRITIQUE of the worldview that has increasingly dominated U.S. politics. Parts 1 and 2 of this program explains that the […]

Outreach ideas for hard, scary issues

October 30, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

It is hard to inform and mobilize the public about hard, scary issues such as nuclear weapons, the climate crisis, and Trumpism’s escalating fascism. Typically, we throw facts at people, but people too fearful and powerless to open themselves up psychologically to hear those facts, let alone act upon them. The document I wrote and linked below  can help the public empower themselves to work on serious issues, including the hardest and most  frightening issues. In order to really engage the public on these hard and frightening issues, we must deliberately strategize how to address the public’s fears, feelings of […]

Sign petition now. Trump supports Saudi Arabia’s cruelty and its passion for a war against Iran.

October 21, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Trump has denied having business dealings with Saudi Arabia, but he really does have significant business dealings with them. He has been very subservient to Saudi Arabia’s interests and has curried favor with that nation’s cruel despotic leaders. Saudi Arabia (which is Sunni) has been strongly opposing Iran (which is largely Shia), and they are fighting proxy wars in Yemen and elsewhere.  Saudi Arabia wants a war against Iran, and it is urging Trump to start one.  Trump also is very subservient to the militaristic government of Israel, which also wants a war against Iran (in addition to practicing genocide […]

More info: WA State death penalty is ruled UNCONSTITUTIONAL

October 17, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

In some previous communications I made a typographical error in the date when the Washington State Supreme Court ruled our state’s death penalty unconstitutional.  It happened on Thursday October 11, 2018.  I don’t know how I mistakenly had typed October 6 in some things you might have seen.   Here are some additional sources of information reporting on the big news.   An excellent Quaker-based non-profit organization (Friends Committee on National Legislation — FCNL www.fcnl.org) cited a news article from National Public Radio (NPR) about Washington State’s death penalty being struck down.  See this link:  https://www.npr.org/2018/10/11/656570464/washington-state-strikes-down-death-penalty-citing-racial-bias?utm_campaign=thisweek&utm_medium=email&utm_source=ak   The national level […]

Washington State’s death penalty is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Our State Supreme Court ruled UNANIMOUSLY on Oct. 11, 2018.

October 12, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Wednesday October 10 was the World Day Against the Death Penalty.  One day later big news happened in Washington State USA. On Thursday October 11, 2018, Washington State’s Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty is unconstitutional in the way it’s used here. The Court ordered that the sentences of people currently on death row are converted to life in prison.  I learned about this State Supreme Court case (State v. Gregory) in May 2016. We were expecting a decision in November 2016 or soon after. Allen Eugene Gregory, who had been convicted of murder and sentenced to die, had […]

To Achieve Social Justice, We Must De-Polarize Our Society

October 7, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Oppressors like to use a “divide-and-conquer” strategy in order to keep the oppressed people from joining together to empower themselves to nonviolently fight against the oppressors. We need to recognize that tactic and refuse to let oppressors polarize us by race or religion or sexual orientation or any other factor. I wrote this article in 2018 and encourage people to read it and use its insights to de-polarize our society so we can join together to work for social justice: De-Polarize

“Let’s Understand the Islamic Faith”

October 1, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

The October 2018 episode of “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV series helps us understand the Islamic faith. Islam is the world’s second most popular religion, but most Americans who are not Muslim do not understand it.  Many of the things Americans think they know about Islam are not actually true.  I invite you to watch this TV interview with three knowledgeable, articulate Muslims so you will gain a clear and accurate understanding. See the link below to watch the program — and the link below that to read a thorough summary of what we said and a list of sources for […]

Nonviolent resistance: Only 3.5% of population — if sustained — can turn things around. See useful links here.

September 22, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Below is a link to an article that contains a wealth of hyperlinks to resources and information on how the use of nonviolent action has historically and currently produced remarkable successes in US history. The author is Erica Chenoweth, the researcher that I told you about who found, in her research, that when 3.5% of a country’s population was engaged in civil resistance to the status quo, all of the campaigns studies at that level of involvement were successful. I recommend you check it out and follow the many useful hyperlinks. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/feb/01/worried-american-democracy-study-activist-techniques?CMP=share_btn_link
