WA’s U.S. senators Murray and Cantwell were VERY RELUCTANT to support HR 1, the anti-corruption bill.

American voters are VERY ANGRY AT THE PERVASIVE CORRUPTION AND ABUSES that have prevented honest democracy.  Finally in 2019 the Democratic majority in the U.S. House passed H.R. 1, a major pro-democracy reform bill that would:

• REDUCE the influence of big money in politics by calling for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.

• STRENGTHEN election integrity and voting rights by improving access to the voting booth, make Election Day a federal holiday, fund more secure elections, end gerrymandering, etc.

• REFORM campaign finance and ethics laws that would keep elected officials and others holding office accountable.

• and do more good things.

After passing the U.S. House, it went to the U.S. Senate where nearly all Democratic Senators co-sponsored it — EXCEPT NOT Patty Murray NOR Maria Cantwell who pretend to “represent” Washington State.  People e-mailed and phoned and applied hard pressure, but still Murray and Cantwell FAILED TO CO-SPONSOR this important legislation.

Finally, in late March 2019, Murray became one of the last Democratic co-sponsors, and Cantwell became the next-to-last co-sponsor.

Republicans oppose stopping the corruption, the gerrymandering, the voter suppression, and other abuses, because they benefit from them.

Washington State’s voters should be outraged that Murray and Cantwell were extremely reluctant to co-sponsor H.R. 1, and finally joined only because of massive pressure.

WE NEED TO REPLACE THOSE GROSSLY NEGLIGENT SENATORS.  They are negligent in MANY ways.  Washington State’s voters are much more progressive than they are.  Certainly we can find better candidates!
