Trump’s Atty. Gen. William Barr is WRONG about policing: Here are two articles.

Trump’s Atty. Gen. Barr demands absolute obedience to police and attacks “social reformers.”  See article:  https://www.businessinsider.com/william-barr-zero-tolerance-fraternal-order-police-speech-2019-8

The Justice Collaborative (www.thejusticecollaborative.com) reported in August 2019 that “[i]n a public speech, Barr took a major jab at prosecutors who fight to end mass incarceration – claiming they lead to more crime and more victims. He warned of ‘District Attorneys that style themselves as ‘social justice’ reformers,” claiming they are “anti-law enforcement.’  But here are the facts: between 2007 and 2017, 34 states reduced both rates of incarceration and crime – proving that mass incarceration does absolutely nothing to improve public safety. Furthermore, although most progressive prosecutors have not been in office long enough to measure their impact on crime, violent crime fell in both Philadelphia and Chicago under the helm of progressive prosecutors.”  The Justice Collaborative urges people to push our local prosecuting attorneys to adopt “reform” policies.  The Justice Collaborative provided footnotes from the Brennan Center for Justice (www.brennancenter.org), including https://www.brennancenter.org/blog/between-2007-and-2017-34-states-reduced-crime-and-incarceration-tandem

In June 2019 the Courage Campaign (www.couragecampaign.org) reported that almost 1,000 people were shot and killed by police in 2018, and early 2019’s number had already passed 400.  However, the Trump administration has REDUCED EFFORTS TO DEAL WITH LOCAL POLICE ABUSE.  Barr’s predecessor Jeff Sessions had stripped the federal government from much of its power to monitor and deal with local cases of excessive violence and killings by local police, and Atty. Gen. Barr has failed to restore oversight or accountability.  Now the House Judiciary Committee has called on the Justice Department to release documents on how they have been addressing cases of excessive police force since Trump took office.
