On Saturday June 30 a huge crowd — certainly more than one thousand, and perhaps two thousand — attended the immigrant rights rally at the Washington State Capitol Building in Olympia WA. The initial focus was “Keep Families Together,” because the Trump regime has kidnapped more than 2,000 children (including toddlers and infants) from their immigrant parents because their parents had crossed the U.S. border without the necessary documentation. Trump was holding those children as HOSTAGES in order to pressure their parents to “self-deport” and pressure Congress to pass a cruel law against immigrants. The Trump regime has lost track of where most of those children are.
Overwhelming pressure from across the political spectrum, including people who typically support Trump, forced him to stop separating children from their parents. Instead, he is IMPRISONING ENTIRE FAMILIES in what are really concentration camps in prisons (especially privately owned and cruel prisons) and U.S. military bases.
INTERNATIONAL LAW — and U.S. LAW — PROTECTS THE RIGHT OF PERSONS TO ENTER THE NATION AND SEEK ASYLUM. Many of the people coming here are REFUGEES from violence (including the violence that the U.S. has been causing in certain Latin American nations and other nations). TRUMP AND THE U.S. GOVERNMENT ARE VIOLATING THE LAW. This is an impeachable offense!
HERE ARE SOME SIGNS FROM THE RALLY IN OLYMPIA:
“Immigrants make America great.”
“Jesus was a refugee.”
“Holding children hostage is an act of terrorism.”
“If you think fertilized eggs are people but refugee kids are not, you’re racist not religious.”
Another sign quoted these four bible verses: Isaiah 16, Deuteronomy 10:19, Job 29.16, and Romans 13:10. Here is what those verses say:
Isaiah 16 — (The entire chapter is about protecting outcasts and fugitives. It opposes the arrogance of oppressors. It’s too long to quote here, but you can read it yourself.)
Deuteronomy 10:19 — “Love the sojourner therefore; for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.”
Job 29.16 — “I was a father to the poor, and I searched out the cause of him whom I did not know.”
Romans 13:10 — “Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.”
