Facebook supports right-wing extremism, hate groups, etc.

The National Whistleblower Center (www.whistleblowers.org) reported in May 2019 — and updated its report in September 2019 — that Facebook “was not only hosting terror and hate content, but in fact auto-generating its own.”  A whistleblower provided information that you can see here:  https://apnews.com/f97c24dab4f34bd0b48b36f2988952a4?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=39a0cee3-f401-4489-b49a-d930eb9bc78e

The National Whistleblower Center wrote, “The whistleblower filed a complaint with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in January 2019 alleging Facebook has repeatedly deceived shareholders and the public about its efforts to address terror and hate speech on its social media platform. By doing so, the whistleblower claims Facebook is violating securities laws that prohibit publicly traded companies from misleading shareholders and the general public.”

Another non-profit organization, www.freepress.net, reported in September 2019 that “Facebook has made millions by promoting content from hate groups — including white-supremacist organizations.”  Although Facebook claims that it had recently reduced racism and hatred on its platform, the problems persist at a serious extent.  FreePress.net reported:

“There are many examples of Facebook falling down on the job. The company has allowed countless pieces of hateful content to thrive on its platform even when they violate its Community Standards, Terms of Service and Ad Policies. Here are just a few examples:
• Failing to take down an event page for an armed protest outside a gathering of the Islamic Society of North America event in August (until several leading civil-rights groups coordinated a pressure campaign)
• Allowing President Trump’s Facebook page to run more than 2,000 ads referring to immigration and immigrants of color — particularly people from Central and South America — as an “invasion.”
• Failing to remove sponsored content from a hate group that advocates for executing people in the United States who “have LGBTQ sex.”

On Nov. 4, 2019, www.dailykos.com reported that Facebook hired a RIGHT-WING EXTREMIST entity to do its “fact-checking”!  Its post said this:

As hate and conspiracy mongering right-wing websites boost their disinformation for the 2020 election, they have found a very powerful ally: Facebook.
• Facebook has included Breitbart—the right-wing hate site whose editor-in-chief says that rape is just “sex a woman regrets”—among its list of “quality journalism” sources to police other journalism sites. Facebook refuses to disclose who else is on the list, however.   https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/10/28/1895585/-Facebook-and-the-shameful-media-tradition-of-enabling-Breitbart-hate?detail=emailaction&link_id=3&can_id=1d662460c0abb8939c5044c82927552b&source=email-firstname-default-friend-sign-this-stop-facebook-from-boosting-right-wing-disinformation-4&email_referrer=email_651667&email_subject=firstname-default-friend-sign-this-stop-facebook-from-boosting-right-wing-disinformation
• In his testimony to the House Financial Services committee, Mark Zuckerberg also confirmed that it uses the Daily Caller—a right-wing website run by Tucker Carlson, which has repeatedly interacted with white supremacist groups—as one of its “fact-checking” sources.  https://www.mediamatters.org/daily-caller?link_id=5&can_id=1d662460c0abb8939c5044c82927552b&source=email-firstname-default-friend-sign-this-stop-facebook-from-boosting-right-wing-disinformation-4&email_referrer=email_651667&email_subject=firstname-default-friend-sign-this-stop-facebook-from-boosting-right-wing-disinformation
• And while Facebook cracks down on progressive sites for “inauthentic behavior” that result in less visibility, it has allowed right-wing conspiracist Ben Shapiro to use sock-puppet Facebook pages to boost traffic to his Daily Wire site—violating Facebook rules for inauthentic behavior.  https://popular.info/p/facebook-allows-prominent-right-wing?link_id=6&can_id=1d662460c0abb8939c5044c82927552b&source=email-firstname-default-friend-sign-this-stop-facebook-from-boosting-right-wing-disinformation-4&email_referrer=email_651667&email_subject=firstname-default-friend-sign-this-stop-facebook-from-boosting-right-wing-disinformation

The Nov. 4, 2019, post by www.dailykos.com invites people to sign a petition telling Facebook to “stop giving preferential treatment to hateful, conspiracy-based right-wing media.”
