Congress must take smart, strong new actions!

Public opinion polling keeps showing that the American people have VERY NEGATIVE views of Congress.  We must push Congress to stop its corruption, to become much smarter, to stop being so timid, and to take positive actions that serve the broad public interest (instead of rich donors and big business and the military-industrial complex).

Here is a fresh remedy:

Despite Congress’s extreme partisanship (mostly caused by Republicans’ extreme cruelty and antagonism to effective government), there is BI-PARTISAN AGREEMENT that many of the ways Congress functions are seriously broken, so now there is a BI-PARTISAN EFFORT TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS.  Early in 2019, the U.S. House voted 418-12 to create a Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress. This bipartisan 12-member committee has the best opportunity in decades to begin to fix Congress.  They are looking at various aspects of Congress’s infrastructure and functioning that have been counter-productive.

Sign the petition to the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress. Tell them to seize the moment and not get bogged down in “small ball” fixes. Here is a remedy for BIG MONEY CORRUPTING Congress, executive branch, agencies, colleges, etc.:

BIG MONEY is CORRUPTING many aspects of our nation, beyond the obvious corruption of Congress and elections. Revolving doors exist between executive branch agencies and business. Rich right-wing donors influence universities’ hiring of professors. The list goes on and on. BIG MONEY CORRUPTION is really very pervasive.

This article in The Nation Magazine proposes “a Public Integrity Protection Agency to consolidate all the disparate anti-corruption forces in government (the Office of Government Ethics, agency inspectors general and ethics officials) and be empowered to investigate and penalize government officials and those seeking influence, while being able to write rules to further crack down on corruption.”
