Few Americans know Constitution prohibits religious litmus tests for officeholders.

July 31, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

The Pew Research Center released survey results on a religious literacy poll which found that only 27% of Americans surveyed knew that the Constitution prohibits any religious litmus tests for officeholders.  The article I have linked below came from a great non-profit organization that vigorously protects the separation of church and state.  I enjoy reading materials from — and financially supporting — Americans United for the Separation of Church and State (www.au.org). Democratic Party FAILS TO CHALLENGE Trump’s foreign policy!

July 31, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Many times every day now I receive e-mails from various parts of the Democratic Party asking me to donate money.  Their opening request invites me to choose my favorite presidential candidates — and sometimes to identify the issues that I care about the most. They list many DOMESTIC issues (jobs, gay rights, college debt, etc.), but ALMOST NEVER ASK ABOUT FOREIGN POLICY or the federal budget’s domination by military spending or the U.S.’s perpetual violations of human rights around the world. This implies that THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS WILLING TO GO ALONG WITH TRUMP’S FOREIGN POLICY! A few of these […]

Trump is INCOMPETENT. He can only barely read. He cannot think clearly.

July 22, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Trump was born into a rich family, so he relied on his inherited wealth instead of developing his own knowledge or skills.  Instead, he became a spoiled brat and a bully who picked on people he perceived as weaker than himself.  He focused on self-promotion and creating the fictitious image that he was a smart businessman (even though he used his daddy’s money and went bankrupt many times).  Trump became a con artist — a flimflam man — who defrauded people, refused to pay people who worked for him, etc., etc. Other posts on this part of my blog provide […]

Supreme Court rejected Trump’s census question — and after wanting to add it anyway he finally he gave up

July 19, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

I have been tracking the news of the deliberately racist, anti-immigrant, and highly partisan question about citizenship that Trump has been pushing hard to include in the 2020 census.  I have posted updates several times to my blog’s section on IMMIGRANTS (http://parallaxperspectives.org/category/immigrants-and-refugees).  See those previous posts for background on the controversy and why Trump’s citizenship question is such a horrible idea. Even after the U.S. Supreme Court explicitly rejected it and exposed the Trump regime’s blatant lies, Trump wanted to find some way to add it anyway, but he could not.  He even considered delaying the 2020 census (despite the […]

Democrats help Republicans hurt immigrants!

July 4, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Many people assume that Republicans are bad and Democrats are good, so all we have to do is replace Republicans with Democrats and our problems will be solved. WRONG! In many, many ways, Democrats are part of the problem.  Very often they actively go along with Republicans or timidly fail to oppose them.   Robert Reich’s July 1, 2019, article said the Democrats caved in to Republicans about the border, despite huge public concern:  https://www.nationofchange.org/2019/07/01/dems-cave-on-the-border/   This June 28, 2019, article reports that the highest-ranking Democrats in the Senate (Schumer) and the House (Pelosi) HELPED REPUBLICANS GIVE TRUMP $4.6 BILLION […]

4th of July is Trump’s excuse to glorify himself at taxpayers’ expense

July 4, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

For many years a Fourth of July celebration in Washington DC has been NON-PARTISAN celebration of our nation.  But in 2019 Trump hijacked it and made it about him and his partisan supporters:  https://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/2019/06/trump-to-turn-dcs-annual-nonpartisan-july-4-celebration-into-event-centered-on-him-and-his-supporters-report/?utm_source=&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=298&recip_id=22838&list_id=2 In early July the Washington Post and other reliable sources reported that Trump has forced the National Parks Service (which is already underfunded and unable to keep up with necessary maintenance) to divert $2.5 million that had been intended for improving parks, so the NPS can pay for costs related to Trump’s Fourth of July event on the National Mall. The entire extravaganza will be very […]

We’re All in This Together

May 24, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Oppressors like to use “divide-and-conquer” strategies to disempower the 99%. The Olympian published an op-ed I wrote in May 2019. Here is the article as a Word document: BOC — 2019.05.16 FINAL version — We’re All in This Together Here is the article as it appeared on the editorial page on May 23, 2019: https://www.theolympian.com/opinion/letters-to-the-editor/article230676584.html?

How We Got into Our Current Crisis

May 24, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

I wrote an insightful article in 2017, and it is still valid, so I updated it only a little and posted it here. I’ll write another proposing remedies for how to get out of this crisis.  Look for that within the next few weeks. How We Got into Our Current Crisis

Progress toward replacing the Electoral College with National Popular Vote

May 17, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Previous posts on this blog have explained how the Electoral College frustrates honest democracy by over-weighting low-population states (which tend to produce Republican majorities) and under-weighting high-population states (which tend to produce Democratic majorities).  This partisan imbalance has caused several Republican presidents to get elected by Electoral College majorities, even though they lost the popular vote.  Trump is the latest example. Fortunately, a number of people and non-profit organizations have been pushing to replace the Electoral College with a National Popular Vote.  Changing the U.S. Constitution is a horrendously huge, slow process that is not likely because the Senate (which […]

Most of WA House members wanted to abolish WA’s death penalty, but House leadership failed.

May 17, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

The WA State Senate’s bill to abolish the death penalty passed the State Senate. The article at the link below says 54 House members wanted to pass it, but the House leadership (Democrat Frank Chopp) did not bring it up for a vote. Chopp has been opposing efforts to repeal the death penalty in WA State. House leaders said they wanted to focus on higher priorities than this bill. https://www.thenewstribune.com/latest-news/article229414449.html?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=fff8ef07-20b2-4c78-8559-6bca7143c5ca

This article exposes Mitch McConnell’s cynical partisanship and rule-breaking. He thinks winning for partisanship is all that counts.

May 17, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Sometimes each of the big political parties does things intended to serve their own partisan interests instead of the nation as a whole.  But in recent decades the Republican Party has become so extremely hyper-partisan that they have been violating the Constitution and constitutional principles in many ways (e.g., suppressing the voting rights of constituencies who favor Democrats and refusing to hold Senate hearings on Obama’s Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland). This article exposes Mitch McConnell’s cynical partisanship and rule-breaking. He thinks winning for partisanship is all that counts. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/apr/06/mitch-mcconnell-senate-republicans-donald-trump-judges

Biden’s climate policy will doom us

May 17, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Joe Biden has publicly agreed that the climate crisis is an EXISTENTIAL crisis.  It is so extremely serious that it is a life-or-death crisis. However, he thinks timid steps and compromising with Republicans are sufficient.  He was Obama’s Vice President, and Obama tried for 8 years to compromise with Republicans, but Republicans absolutely refused to take reasonable steps.  Now Republicans are vigorously repealing all of the very moderate steps that Obama took.  Republicans are NOT a reasonable group to negotiate with.  Biden is utterly unrealistic to think that a policy of yielding to them will produce good results for the […]
