Help young people resist pressures by military recruiters

January 24, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

Every year the U.S. military spends BILLIONS OF DOLLARS trying to recruit young people to join the military.  Some of their methods are VERY INTRUSIVE.  Some are VERY DECEPTIVE. A few organizations help young people with “consumer protection” information to help them resist the pressures.  I recommend the National Network Opposing the Militarization of Youth (nnomy.org).   Also, the guests I interviewed on my September 2022 TV program mentioned counter-recruitment efforts.  You can WATCH the video and/or READ the thorough summary I typed up (with links to additional information) at this link:  https://parallaxperspectives.org/some-people-in-the-military-refuse-orders               […]

Click to tell Congress: Cut the Pentagon Budget! Fund human needs!

January 18, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

It’s the 62nd anniversary of Pres. Eisenhower’s warning against the “military industrial complex.” Now marks an urgent moment to act. Right now, we’re hearing calls to CUT government spending, but too many in Congress think social programs should face the ax, NOT hundreds of billions for weapons and war. We cannot accept this as our fate. Let’s break this cycle and redirect resources towards programs that truly benefit ALL people.  Now is the time for action. To curb the military industrial complex’s influence in our government, tell Congress to cut the Pentagon budget, NOT funding for social programs.     […]

Martin Luther King, Jr., said these things about various issues

January 8, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

When people refer to MLK as the “Reverend Dr.,” they are recognizing that he did indeed earn a Ph.D. in philosophy in addition to completing formal theological studies and being ordained.  He thought clearly and wisely.  Below I’m sharing with you some things he said about several different issues — and always grounded in humane ethics.     On April 4, 1967, King spoke about the Vietnam war and overall U.S. foreign policy to an audience at Riverside Church in New York City.  Many of the things he said there have been quoted widely.  He explicitly denounced the injustices and […]

Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW): 2nd anniversary of going into effect is Jan. 22, 2023

January 8, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

Yes, it REALLY IS POSSIBLE to abolish nuclear weapons!!! In July 2017, nearly 2/3 of the nations in the U.N. General Assembly (122 of 193 nations) approved the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) so it could go out to the world’s nations for ratification. By early January 2023, a total of 68 (one-third of the nations in the United Nations General Assembly) had RATIFIED a treaty to TOTALLY ABOLISH ALL nuclear weapons, so this treaty is in their national laws!!! It went into effect for those 68 nations on January 22, 2021.   Now the world is […]

Abolish the federal “debt ceiling.” It’s a Republican scam to prevent funding to solve problems.

January 8, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

Whenever Congress is asked to fund activities that would help ordinary people (health care, education, anti-poverty programs, etc.), Republicans object on the grounds that we can’t afford to pay for them. But they ALWAYS support funding the horribly huge military budget — and tax cuts for rich people and big businesses — and NEVER ask how we would pay for those. For example, in December 2022, Congress just passed $858 billion military budget, but the GOP is blocking $12 billion to fight child poverty Republicans refused to even consider proposals to revive the Child Tax Credit expansion that lifted millions […]

Nuclear power is DEFINITELY NOT a remedy for the climate crisis!

January 8, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

The nuclear power industry and its supporters (and some well-meaning but misinformed people) want us to consider nuclear power as a remedy for the climate crisis.  THE FACTS OPPOSE THIS.   Experts Say Nuclear Energy as Climate Solution Is Total “Fiction.”  “The reality is nuclear is neither clean, safe, or smart; but a very complex technology with the potential to cause significant harm.”  https://www.commondreams.org/news/2022/01/25/experts-say-nuclear-energy-climate-solution-total-fiction   Former Nuclear Regulatory Commission chair argues nuclear power isn’t a climate solution:  https://www.theverge.com/2022/1/27/22904943/nuclear-power-climate-change-solution-gregory-jaczko   Nuclear power not feasible to tackle climate change:  https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/nuclear-energy-climate-crisis-experts-b2001076.html   Nuclear power is NOT a remedy for the climate crisis:  https://beyondnuclearinternational.org/2021/12/12/nuclear-cant-deliver-on-climate/ […]

January 3, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

In January 2022, Glen Anderson spoke on the radio about Martin Luther King’s “Beyond Vietnam” speech from April 4, 1967.  Several persons who heard this radio interview on Thursday told Glen that they liked it very much. You can listen to the radio broadcast at this link:  Parallel U 1-20-22.mp3 This was on Kim Dobson’s interesting weekly radio series, Parallel University.  It airs at 12 noon every Thursday on KAOS FM, 89.3.

Powerful forces are bullying us. Let’s reject despair and empower strategically smart grassroots movements!

January 2, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

On issue after issue, powerful economic and political forces — including “culture warriors” — are vigorously bullying people, corrupting elections, hurting workers and children, disrupting ecosystems and Mother Earth’s climate, and causing other damage. Many people who have better values are feeling overwhelmed and powerless.  Some yield to despair and give up. But we can indeed fight back — nonviolently — by organizing strategically savvy grassroots movements to solve the problems and replace bad public policies with good ones. This requires a positive attitude.  Hope is not really a statistical probability that we have a certain percentage of likelihood of […]

Three Steps to Nuclear Disarmament

December 24, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

The January 2023 program on “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV series provides fresh information and insights toward abolishing nuclear weapons. Besides facts, we provide a positive “can-do” attitude with practical strategies.  We explain things clearly enough so people who do not already know much about nuclear weapons will easily understand and become enthusiastic about abolishing them. One truly expert guest – Tom Rogers – helps us explore this topic.  Tom Rogers retired from the U.S. Navy in 1998 after a 32-year career as a submarine officer.  He commanded a nuclear attack submarine during the Cold War.  When the Cold War ended […]
