We Can Replace Cynicism and Despair with Empowerment and Hope

November 6, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Our world is in a serious mess.  We are suffering from a number of big serious problems. It is easy to feel powerless and despair. But if we let the oppressors get us down, we’ll be even worse off. The good news is that WE CAN INDEED ESCAPE THAT TRAP. WE CAN INDEED EMPOWER OURSELVES AND MOVE AHEAD. I wrote the following document more than a year ago, and it is still valid. Please read and share this: We Can Replace Cynicism and Despair with Empowerment and Hope

TV Program: A blistering critique of U.S. politics! PART 1: “Choose a Better Worldview to Build a Better World”

October 30, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

You can watch the November 2018 episode of the TV program for my series “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” through a link on this blog post — or on TCTV cable channel 22 in Thurston County. (See info below.) This is PART 1 of a 2-part topic, “Choose a Better Worldview to Build a Better World.” It focuses mostly on the problems. PART 2, the December 2018 program, will focus more on solutions. SEE THE LINK BELOW for a VERY THOROUGH, BLISTERING CRITIQUE of the worldview that has increasingly dominated U.S. politics. Parts 1 and 2 of this program explains that the […]

Outreach ideas for hard, scary issues

October 30, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

It is hard to inform and mobilize the public about hard, scary issues such as nuclear weapons, the climate crisis, and Trumpism’s escalating fascism. Typically, we throw facts at people, but people too fearful and powerless to open themselves up psychologically to hear those facts, let alone act upon them. The document I wrote and linked below  can help the public empower themselves to work on serious issues, including the hardest and most  frightening issues. In order to really engage the public on these hard and frightening issues, we must deliberately strategize how to address the public’s fears, feelings of […]

Insights into evangelical Christians who sold their souls to Trump

October 21, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

This article dated October 14, 2018, is titled, “The Retribution for Evangelicals Who Sold Their Souls to Trump Is Coming.” It lays out the problem but does not do much about the “retribution” part of the title. Near the end of my November 2018 TV program (and in the essay about it that I’ll post to my blog in late October) I mention that during the 1970s and 1980s the Religious Right and the Republican Party actually merged into one movement so the Republican Party could capture and dominate a huge political base, and so the Religious Right would have […]

To Achieve Social Justice, We Must De-Polarize Our Society

October 7, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Oppressors like to use a “divide-and-conquer” strategy in order to keep the oppressed people from joining together to empower themselves to nonviolently fight against the oppressors. We need to recognize that tactic and refuse to let oppressors polarize us by race or religion or sexual orientation or any other factor. I wrote this article in 2018 and encourage people to read it and use its insights to de-polarize our society so we can join together to work for social justice: De-Polarize

6 workshops on “Nonviolent Grassroots Organizing” Saturday mornings

September 21, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Case study: About 50 years ago when my cousin was 16 years old, she wanted to make herself a dress, so she bought some expensive fabric but did not want to spend the time or effort buying or using a pattern for her sewing project. Without a pattern, she just started cutting. Of course, she ruined the fabric and did not end up with a dress. People who want to accomplish political or societal changes often make the mistake my cousin did. They start doing things without the necessary planning or skills. I’m offering practical workshops in “Nonviolent Grassroots Organizing” […]

Our local weekly peace vigils attract attention and support!

September 15, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

One way to “think globally and act locally” is to participate in the three peace vigils that occur in Olympia every week! The Wednesday and Friday vigils downtown occur EVERY week, all year around, regardless of weather or holidays. The Thursday bannering at a local freeway overpass occurs when it is not too windy to hold the huge banner safely. Every Wednesday from 12 noon to 1 pm in the NW corner of Sylvester Park (Legion & Capitol Way) since March 5, 1980 Every Thursday from 11 am to 12 noon (current schedule might change in winder, and as weather […]

Voters view CORRUPTION as the most important issue. Write letters to editors in Republican communities.

September 9, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Voters are angry! Some issues become more prominent, while others drift downward. Trump has been promoting CORRUPTION throughout his administration, and Republicans have become the party of corruption nationwide.  In order to save our nation, we must alert and mobilize voters to reject the corrupt politicians. Current research shows that CORRUPTION is a MAJOR CONCERN among voters. Now — before the Nov. 6 election — is a good time for people to raise this issue, use the Republicans’ corruption against them, and write letters to editors (especially in communities that could shift from Republican to Democratic). This article provides information: […]

Congress should kick BILLIONAIRES off welfare!

September 9, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has introduced legislation that would hold billionaires accountable for the extremely low wages they pay their employees. Currently, some of the biggest, most profitable businesses pay their employees so little that the employees must apply for welfare, food stamps, government-funded medical care, public housing, etc.  Conservatives blame people for getting “welfare,” but actually our political/economic system allows these giant corporations to get “welfare.”  TAXPAYERS ARE SUBSIDIZING THESE ABUSIVE BUSINESSES. Bernie Sanders’ legislation is named after Jeff Bezos, the richest man in the history of the world.  His assets total $158 BILLION, and his wealth increases by […]

Why people support Trump — AND smart ways for us to organize against Trumpism

August 30, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Read the insightful article at this link: https://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/here-are-15-reasons-why-trumps-supporters-will-never-abandon-him?src=newsletter1095784 Some of these 15 reasons are things we have already known. But some of these offer fresh insights that have not been discussed very much. We could make progress organizing against Trump and Trumpism by paying attention to these and devising strategies to reduce or counter those supports. EXAMPLES: 1. How could we reach out to the public, connect with their basic values and interests, reinforce good values and the broad public interest, educate them about some of the basic facts, and motivate people to pay attention and get engaged with politics […]

Senate must publicly expose Trump’s nominees & turn public opinion against Trumpism.

August 9, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Trump keeps nominating horribly corrupt, incompetent and dangerous right-wing nominees for powerful positions in the federal government.  Democratic senators simply vote “no” but fail to take stronger actions, so these Democratic senators trap themselves in a simple defensive role.  When they do that, Trump is free to keep throwing horribly corrupt, incompetent and dangerous right-wing nominees at us, one after another. Democratic senators must STAND UP for humane values, honesty, and the broad public interest.  They must PUBLICLY EXPOSE Trump’s nominees as horribly corrupt, incompetent and dangerous right-wing extremists.  They must REACH OUT TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC and TURN PUBLIC […]

Larry Mosqueda’s insightful article explains the immigration crisis

July 27, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

On July 27, 2018, Larry Mosqueda published at CounterPunch his new article about the current immigration “crisis.”  His article corrects the misunderstandings that are widespread throughout the U.S. government, mainstream media, and the general public.  He invites us to share it with other people, so I’m sharing it with you through my blog, www.parallaxperspectives.org. You will be able to read it in the August 2018 issue of Works in Progress, Olympia’s progressive monthly newspaper.  See a paper copy or www.olywip.org Here is the link to read it at CounterPunch:  https://www.counterpunch.org/2018/07/27/on-the-origins-of-the-current-immigration-crisis-at-the-border/

Democracy’s threats are deeper than Russia.

July 27, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Mainstream media and the official Democratic Party want us to think that Russia is the main threat to American democracy.  The actual threats are different and much more deep-seated. While Russia clearly did bad things to American democracy during the 2016 election — and before and since — focusing on Russia is a clever distraction promoted by people who want us to ignore the much more serious threats. Trump won in 2016 largely because so many Americans were disgusted with the status quo.  Over the years, public opinion polls kept showing increasing numbers of people saying the U.S. is on […]

Stop the Endless Wars. Repeal the 2001 AUMF.

July 27, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

For decades the Cold War allowed our nation’s militarists — and the weapons manufacturing corporations that fund them — to stampede the U.S. media and politicians and public into decades of recklessly wasteful military spending, including several wars and proxy wars and thousands of nuclear weapons.  They said that this is Priority #1, so we could not afford bold efforts to end poverty, take care of the environment, or do other crucial work. When the Cold War ended, those same vested interests — our nation’s militarists and the weapons manufacturers — and conservative elements that opposed solving our nation’s social […]

Community Affirmation: Peace, Not Nuclear Weapons

July 27, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

This Community Affirmation was affirmed at the June 1982 International Religious Convocation for the Second United Nations Special Session on Disarmament.  It remains timely today.   Community Affirmation   We who live in the shadow of the mushroom cloud and the dangers of bullets on our streets Today declare our hope in the future.   From the diversity of our religious traditions We have come to renew our belief in the holiness of the earth and the sanctity of all life. We declare we are at peace with all people of good will.   We need no leader to define […]
