I encourage people to read and share this very short (just over 2 minutes) video by Jesuit Father Jim Martin affirming the moral imperative to welcome migrant children: https://nowthisnews.com/videos/politics/reverend-jim-martin-discusses-welcoming-migrant-children
To protect immigrants, STOP POLARIZING PEOPLE IN ANY WAY: Stop dividing people by nationality, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, economic class, etc. The problems we face are huge, deeply rooted and interconnected. Because these problems are linked, we can make progress toward solving any of the divisive problems by starting with any one of these problems and showing how it connects with the other problems. The problems already existed before Trump made them worse. Nationalism and racism polarize “us vs. them.” For more than 70 years nuclear weapons have expressed the nationalism that is one root of anti-immigrant feelings. […]
The July 2018 episode of “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV program helps us understand how science works. It also helps us push governments to use honest science as a basis for smart and wise public policies. Governments should make decisions based on what is actually true, not corrupted by financial greed or ideological pressures. To watch the interview, click this link: WATCH THE INTERVIEW HERE. To read the thorough summary of what we said in the interview — and see a list of excellent sources of information, click this link: 2018.07 Program Summary — SCIENCE. Oppressors often use a “divide-and-conquer” strategy to keep populations divided so the oppressors can dominate them. This has been happening in the U.S., as it has in other countries. The remedy is for people to recognize and expose the oppressors’ scheme — and to bring all demographic groups together to de-polarize our society. Unfortunately, some people who are oppressed buy into the polarization and get angry and vengeful against other demographic groups that have been set up by the oppressors as polar opposites. These people unwittingly serve the oppressors’ interests in keeping the population divided. The real remedy is to […]
Today I posted to my blog a collection of links to 6 articles about Trump’s dangerous and dictatorial behavior. I urge you to read those article. The article at the link below stands apart as especially powerful and important. As you know, I read a huge amount of information. Thom Hartmann’s article at the link below consolidates much solid information into CRUCIALLY IMPORTANT information that the American people need to understand. Trump and Trumpism are imposing horrible authoritarianism upon the U.S. This is an extremely serious — actually existential — danger to American freedom and constitutional democracy. Trump’s authoritarianism abuses […]
ITEM #1: Trump keeps lying about political matters: https://www.alternet.org/brief-history-trumps-political-lies?src=newsletter1093023 ITEM #2: Trump’s short attention span, simplistic thinking, etc., seriously impair his ability to serve as president: Although this article does not specifically mention the need to use the Constitution’s 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office, the article does a good job of succinctly summarizing his utter incompetence in performing the job’s mental requirements: https://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/trumps-briefing-book-filled-slogans-fit-child?src=newsletter1093091 ITEM #3: This new report documents Trump’s EXTREME and PERVASIVE CORRUPTION: Trump has promoted corruption in many, many ways. His corruption not only abuses honest government, but it also hurts public health and […]
In mid-June leaders of 7 rich nations are gathering in Canada for a global economic summit. All of the other leaders come from business-friendly political parties, but Trump is so extremely beholden to fossil fuel companies that he denies that the climate crisis is real, and he rejects climate science. Trump arrived a bit late and blamed our economic allies and previous presidents for trade problems. He left the G-7 summit early, before the world leaders discuss the climate or oceans. Here is information from the Sierra Club, along with a statement from that organization: https://www.sierraclub.org/press-releases/2018/06/report-trump-only-leader-g-7-summit-who-refuses-accept-climate-science
In the past few decades the U.S. has become increasingly polarized — and increasingly rigid — and mutually hateful to the people on the “wrong” side of issues. This is NOT sustainable for democracy, nor for a free society, nor for human rights. People in each of the two big political parties want to DEFEAT members of the other party through dynamics that seem warlike or genocidal. Trump has escalated the polarization horribly, not only across political parties, but also across races, nationalities, religions, sexes, sexual orientations, economic classes, and other demographic variables. THIS IS NOT SUSTAINABLE, but people in […]
On June 4, 2018, Trump tweeted, “I have the absolute right to PARDON myself.” His statement and statements by Rudy Giuliani and some other extreme Trump loyalists expose the Trump regime as a dictatorship. The Trumpists think he is above the law, and that he can simply disregard the Constitution in his pursuit of power and wealth. Since he started running for President in 2015, Trump has commanded — and mainstream news media have utterly yielded — the power to be every day’s #1 news story. Trump has tricked everyone into talking about him all the time. (Yes, I’m […]
Taxes are opposed by conservatives who want to keep their riches instead of sharing their money with governmental efforts to help people with education, health, etc. But liberals and progressives also criticize our tax system because it is unfair. Rich people and big corporations get so many loopholes and breaks that they pay less than their fair share. Poor, working class and middle class people pay more than their share. Actually, we should see taxes as the dues we pay for living in a civilized society. That is the ideal. We need to fully fund the governmental services that help […]

Trump and Trumpism are imposing horrible authoritarianism upon the U.S. This is an extremely serious — actually existential — danger to American freedom and constitutional democracy. Trump’s authoritarianism abuses many aspects of American society. The article below connects many of the issues we care about, including peace, social justice, environment/climate, economics, and so forth. The article ends with a call for nonviolent organizing to rise up against Trump’s […]

The Olympia Coalition to Abolish Nuclear Weapons is a very active member of the statewide coalition working against nuclear weapons. “Washington Against Nuclear Weapons” was convened by Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility (WPSR, www.wpsr.org). Now Washington Against Nuclear Weapons has its own website, and more information is being added to it continually. You can see its current status now and visit again later to see further information, which will be added in the coming weeks and months. All issues are interconnected. We keep seeing this in many contexts. We can use the interconnections to bring people together who are working on various issues to help each other see that our issues are inherently linked, so we can make more progress by working together and exerting mutual leverage to help us make progress on all of the interconnected issues. On Monday May 28, 2018, the weekly Poor People’s Campaign gathering at the Washington State Capitol will focus on peace-related issues. I wrote a handout linking nuclear weapons and the Poor People’s Campaign, and I’ll offer it to the […]
When a nation is threatened with being attacked by another nation, the population rallies behind its current leader, even if that leader is bad. Syria, Iran and North Korea have bad leaders. But it is better to support a bad leader than to be conquered by the Trump and the U.S. Therefore, Trump is actually strengthening the bad governments of Syria, Iran and North Korea.
