How can we challenge this dominant but destructive economic assumption?

May 24, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Embedded very deeply in our American culture — and many other nations’ cultures too — is an assumption that is embedded so deeply that nobody recognizes it, let alone challenge it. The assumption is this:  It is OK if what I do kills people, so long as I’m making money from what I do. At the surface level — the explicit level — if you were to ask people whether it is moral to kill other people, they would say “no.” But below the surface — at the implicit level — our society tolerates behaviors that knowingly kill people because […]

“Peak Oil” was about SUPPLY. Now we’re experiencing “Peak DEMAND.”

April 29, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

In 2004, 2005, and a bit beyond, people (including me) were writing a lot about “Peak Oil.”  (If you want links to articles, etc., contact me at glenanderson@integra.net.) “Peak Oil” was about a peak in SUPPLY, resulting in several kinds of crises (economic, political, etc.) when the SUPPLY reaches its peak and starts to decline. Now we are facing a peak in DEMAND.  The climate crisis is forcing governments, businesses, and consumers to practice serious conservation and to convert to renewable energy.  This new “Peak DEMAND” will cause crises too.  Oil companies, transportation companies, etc., face serious problems like those […]

TV: “Sell Off All Fossil Fuel Investments Now”

March 18, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

The April 2018 interview on “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” explores an important aspect of the climate crisis that has been largely neglected. If people pay attention to this aspect, we can protect the climate and also save ourselves from serious financial losses. The climate crisis has forced the world to start significantly shifting away from coal and oil. We must shift away from all fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) much more rapidly in order to protect Planet Earth – and all of us – from catastrophic climate disruptions. Sharply reducing our consumption of fossil fuels will financially hurt the […]

Despite Trump’s behavioral distractions, he is accomplishing MUCH — but the WRONG stuff!

January 30, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Powerful interests run their agenda on two tracks: 1. For public consumption, they say nice propaganda, platitudes, etc., and they also put out a carnival of entertainment, scandal, eye candy, etc. 2. Meanwhile, apart from public view they do horrible things. So, for example, while LBJ and Nixon kept saying they wanted peace in Vietnam, they actually were escalating the war. Trump promised jobs, promised to “drain the swamp,” etc., but he has been doing the opposite. Both parties do this, and so does big business with “greenwashing” advertising campaigns while they hurt the environment. We must pay attention to […]

Support the Mar-a-Lago Dump for Fossil Fuel Sludge and Nuclear Waste

January 10, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

by Glen Anderson Trump wants to massively increase oil drilling, coal mining, nuclear power, and nuclear weapons. All of these would massively increase the amounts of sludge and wastes from those nuclear and fossil fuel operations. The wastes will need to go somewhere. Since Trump is so enthusiastic about those, I’m proposing a gigantic toxic waste dump right next door to his Mar-a-Lago luxury resort in Florida. Before the Trump era, the Environmental Protection Agency would have prevented such a project. But Trump and Scott Pruitt, his appointed EPA Administrator, have been eliminating environmental protections and converting that agency into […]

TV: “The Arab World’s Democracy Movement”

December 3, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

The Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation’s July 2011 TV program examines the growing movement for democracy in northern Africa, the Middle East, the Persian Gulf states, and throughout much of the Arab world. The movement really took off in early 2011 and is continuing up through our taping date in June 2011, so it has been referred to as the “Arab Spring.” As usual, the mainstream news media and mainstream politicians have failed to understand or talk about some of the most important aspects of this, and they have described some aspects inaccurately, especially reflecting U.S. government bias, rather than understand […]

I offer a 6-session workshop series on “Nonviolent Grassroots Organizing”

November 21, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

Nonviolence is more than ethical.  It is very practical too. Our community, nation and world have serious problems that can be solved only by Nonviolent Grassroots Organizing. Therefore, I’m offering a practical series of 6 interactive workshops with plenty of handouts. These workshops can empower you and others to organize nonviolently at the grassroots to solve problems and make our world a better place. The participants could be interested in a variety of issues, or I could adapt the series to focus on one issue (e.g., abolishing nuclear weapons, or creating universal single-payer health care, or raising the minimum wage […]

To watch this 1-hour interview, click HERE. To read the following information in .pdf format, click HERE. Climate scientists long ago reached a virtual consensus that the climate crisis is a serious problem, but people’s reactions are varied and complex. Everyone has emotions about it, but our psychological responses differ. While some of us are working hard to cope with the problem, some other people seem stuck for various reasons. The Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation’s January 2015 TV program focuses on several aspects of the cli-mate crisis, including: • “Why does there seem to be such disagreement? What can I […]

TV: “Stop the Dangerous Oil Trains. Protect Our Communities and Climate”

November 20, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

The Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation’s May 2015 TV program examines the escalating epidemic of oil trains that have been exploding across the U.S. and Canada. Besides explaining why this is happening, we also explain what people can do about it. Explosive oil trains roll through our local communities in Washington State – Spokane, the Columbia River Gorge, Vancouver, Longview, Chehalis, Centralia, Grays Harbor, Everett, Skagit County, and Bellingham. In fact, all five of us in this TV interview – and all of the volunteers serving on our TV crew – live in communities that are endangered by these explosive oil […]

Three knowledgeable guests combine easy-to-understand science and visually explicit art to help us explore the carbon cycle as a crucial but often neglected aspect of the climate crisis.
