To protect immigrants, STOP POLARIZING PEOPLE IN ANY WAY: Stop dividing people by nationality, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, economic class, etc. The problems we face are huge, deeply rooted and interconnected. Because these problems are linked, we can make progress toward solving any of the divisive problems by starting with any one of these problems and showing how it connects with the other problems. The problems already existed before Trump made them worse. Nationalism and racism polarize “us vs. them.” For more than 70 years nuclear weapons have expressed the nationalism that is one root of anti-immigrant feelings. […]
As you know, I read a huge amount of information. Thom Hartmann’s article at the link below consolidates much solid information into CRUCIALLY IMPORTANT information that the American people need to understand. Trump and Trumpism are imposing horrible authoritarianism upon the U.S. This is an extremely serious — actually existential — danger to American freedom and constitutional democracy. Trump’s authoritarianism abuses many aspects of American society. The article below connects many of the issues we care about, including peace, social justice, environment/climate, economics, and so forth. The article ends with a call for nonviolent organizing to rise up against Trump’s […]
The Olympia Coalition to Abolish Nuclear Weapons is a very active member of the statewide coalition working against nuclear weapons. “Washington Against Nuclear Weapons” was convened by Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility (WPSR, www.wpsr.org). Now Washington Against Nuclear Weapons has its own website, and more information is being added to it continually. You can see its current status now and visit again later to see further information, which will be added in the coming weeks and months. It is https://www.wanwcoalition.org/ Please sign up on that website to keep in touch with our great statewide coalition.
Please help publicize this powerful dramatic film at the Lacey Timberland Library (near College Street SE & 6th Ave SE) in Lacey WA at 4:15 p.m. WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON JUNE 6. See this flyer: Crimson Tide Flyer It’s sponsored by the Olympia Coalition to Abolish Nuclear Weapons. Thanks to Lon Freeman (firstname.lastname@example.org) for organizing it.
All issues are interconnected. We keep seeing this in many contexts. We can use the interconnections to bring people together who are working on various issues to help each other see that our issues are inherently linked, so we can make more progress by working together and exerting mutual leverage to help us make progress on all of the interconnected issues. On Monday May 28, 2018, the weekly Poor People’s Campaign gathering at the Washington State Capitol will focus on peace-related issues. I wrote a handout linking nuclear weapons and the Poor People’s Campaign, and I’ll offer it to the […]
When a nation is threatened with being attacked by another nation, the population rallies behind its current leader, even if that leader is bad. Syria, Iran and North Korea have bad leaders. But it is better to support a bad leader than to be conquered by the Trump and the U.S. Therefore, Trump is actually strengthening the bad governments of Syria, Iran and North Korea.
It was bad enough when previous presidents were in power. But after 9-11-2001, it has gotten worse. Congress passed the “Authorization to Use Military Force” (AUMF) and keeps supporting it. This is virtually a blank check for a president to make wars or do virtually anything anywhere if it is about “fighting terrorism.” Now Trump makes the AUMF’s implications even worse. The problem is THOROUGHLY BI-PARTISAN. Senators Corker and Kaine have introduced a bill that they say would tend to solve the problem. The article at the link below says their bill would NOT solve the problem. The article also […]
Embedded very deeply in our American culture — and many other nations’ cultures too — is an assumption that is embedded so deeply that nobody recognizes it, let alone challenge it. The assumption is this: It is OK if what I do kills people, so long as I’m making money from what I do. At the surface level — the explicit level — if you were to ask people whether it is moral to kill other people, they would say “no.” But below the surface — at the implicit level — our society tolerates behaviors that knowingly kill people because […]
We are committed to vigorous grassroots organizing to abolish nuclear weapons. A smart strategy is to link this issue to other hot issues that people care about. I wrote – and am attaching – 3 flyers that accomplish this. See these 3 links: Stop gun violence — Stop nuclear weapons Climate crisis and nuclear weapons are two existential threats.docx Many scientists oppose nuclear weapons We could replicate this kind of strategy for other issues we are working on. I printed hundreds of copies and handed out (and recruited some other volunteers to hand out) a great many copies of the […]
The leaders of North and South Korea want peace! They will hold an historic summit this Friday April 27 that should lead to further steps toward peace and reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula. But Trump wants war instead. He has been hiring notorious war-hawks to advise him and run federal agencies. Only a few U.S. Congress members are vigorously promoting diplomacy instead of war. They have introduced the “No Unconstitutional Strike against North Korea Act.” The Senate bill (S. 2016) has only 3 co-sponsors, and the House bill (H.R. 4837) has 69 co-sponsors. We must phone U.S. Representative Denny Heck […]
Trump’s main criterion for appointing people is their loyalty to him. He has been firing people who have tried to moderate Trump’s extremism and recklessness. In March 2018 he appointed an extremely dangerous person — John Bolton — who has been wrong on a great many issues over the years and who shamelessly lied in order to help Dick Cheney and George W. Bush start their horrible war against Iraq in 2003. John Bolton will pollute Trump’s mind even further and delude Trump into thinking that he is getting smart advice from an expert, when really Trump will be getting […]
Stop gun violence — Stop nuclear weapons The link immediately above says this: Guns are designed to kill one person or dozens. Nuclear weapons are designed to kill millions or hundreds of millions. Guns and nuclear weapons are rooted in similar problems: • Anger and fear cause someone to shoot a gun – and also to build and launch nuclear weapons. • A temporary impulse can shoot a gun – or start a nuclear war. • Big business corporations build guns and nuclear weapons for profits. • Manufacturers of guns and nuclear weapons bribe and lobby Congress to continue building […]
Unlike many nations that are comprised of several ethnic groups, Korea’s people — both North and South — are all the same: They are Koreans. One ethnic group. The arbitrary line that divided their nation in the early 1950s has absolutely no basis in ethnicity or culture or geography or any other understandable justification. It was imposed upon them to provide a temporary division related to the Korean War from the early 1950s. The Korean War never ended. We’ve had a cease-fire but no formal peace treaty. The Korean people — both North and South — have family members on […]
Decent people must prevent Trump from starting a totally unnecessary war against Iran. Obama helped the U.S., France, Germany, United Kingdom, Russia, China and Iran use diplomacy to create a deal that stopped Iran’s nuclear weapons program. This Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has been working very well. The only people who oppose the JCPOA are Trump and hawks who have always wanted war against Iran. George W. Bush lied and falsely claimed that Iraq was building certain weapons. Bush rejected diplomacy in order to start his war against Iraq in 2003 – a war we are still fighting. […]
I compiled a list of information sources to go along with the March 2018 TV program, which you can watch through this blog’s “TV Programs” part or the “Nuclear Weapons” part. CLICK THE LINK BELOW: Nuclear Weapons Information Sources
