TV + online: “Smart Strategies to Organize for Peace and No Nuclear Weapons”

February 23, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

The March 2023 program on “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV series provides fresh insights and smart strategies to help us achieve peace in the world and abolish nuclear weapons worldwide. In this TV program, I address these main points: Point #1.    The U.S. has been provoking nuclear weapons since the 1940s. Point #2.    Nuclear weapons exist in the overall context of U.S. foreign policy.  To achieve peace, we must debunk the MISTAKEN ASSUMPTIONS that have trapped us in endless wars and the suicide of nuclear weapons. To get out of those traps, we must think clearly and creatively – and de-militarize […]

PROHIBIT nuclear weapons! Support this global Treaty to do this!

October 2, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

During the 1960s the world was alarmed that some nations had nuclear weapons and more nations were starting programs to build their own.  The 5 nations that had them (U.S., U.S.S.R., the U.K., France and China) were alarmed that other nations (South Africa, Brazil, etc.) might join their elite “nuclear club” and threaten the world — just as the 5 nuclear nations were doing. In response, the world’s nations negotiated a grand bargain between the “haves” and the “have-nots.”  Nearly every nation of the world promised NEVER to build or acquire nuclear weapon while the 5 nuclear nations promised to […]

Smart info about the Korean War. Also, tell Congress to formally end it.

September 20, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

On July 23, 2022, AFSC posted this about the Korean War: 5 things to know about the Korean War: On July 27, 1953, an armistice was signed to end three years of fighting on the Korean peninsula. But the United States and North Korea never signed a peace treaty to officially end the Korean War. Nearly 70 years later, this open wound is a root cause of conflict that exists today, writes AFSC’s Jennifer Deibert. Also, AFSC’s e-mail said this: Tell Congress: It’s time to formally end the Korean War: A peace agreement with North Korea is a crucial step […]

Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty: Info + Update

September 16, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

During the 1960s the world was deeply worried that more nations would develop or acquire nuclear weapons. Also, the non-nuclear nations were concerned that the few nations that did have nuclear weapons might use them. In the late 1960s the world’s nations negotiated the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as a grand bargain between nations that had nuclear weapons and those that did not.  It went into effect in 1970 – more than half a century ago. The NPT was a very smart agreement.  This is the grand bargain: Nations that did NOT have nuclear weapons agreed NOT to get them. […]

70 years later, the U.S. keeps its dangerous land mines in Korea. Biden should remove them now!

July 19, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

Win Without War (www.winwithoutwar.org) posted this on July 15, 2022: Ursala Knudsen-Latta of the Friends Committee on National Legislation eviscerates the Biden administration’s argument that the U.S. needs a special exception from the global effort to ban anti-personnel landmines in order to use these indiscriminate weapons to guard South Korea from North Korean invasion. Landmines have killed around 1,000 people just going about their daily lives in South Korea in recent decades, and the South Korean government has moved to clear mines rather than add to them. The U.S. should abandon its defense of landmines in Korea and embrace the […]

The U.S. has REPEATEDLY threatened to attack other nations with our nuclear weapons!

January 25, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

Most Americans think the U.S. has used atomic bombs only twice (on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945). Actually, the U.S. has PERSISTENTLY used them as an ongoing threat — and has ACTUALLY SPECIFICALLY THREATENED NUCLEAR ATTACK on 30 occasions from 1946 to 2006.  (I don’t know how many times since then, but we all remember a few of Trump’s explicit threats.) During times of international crisis the President goes on TV and tells the nation and the world that “ALL OPTIONS ARE  ON THE TABLE.”  This is the euphemism for threatening to destroy the other nation that the U.S. president […]

Peaceful Foreign Policy — A Bold New Agenda

May 26, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

The June 2021 interview on “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV series helps you understand the problems in U.S. foreign policy and some bold ways to solve those problems and support peace and justice worldwide. Two guests explored the problems and solutions: John Feffer is a Project Director working on a variety of foreign policy issues at the Institute for Policy Studies, an exceptionally savvy non-profit organization based in Washington DC. Their website is ips-dc.org.  I enjoyed reading his writings for a long time, even before I recruited him to be a guest for this interview. Metta Spencer is a retired professor […]

Nuclear weapons: What we need to know — and what Biden should do

January 27, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

Many non-profit organizations are urging President Biden to take smart actions for many important issues.  Here are TWO informative resources about NUCLEAR WEAPONS in the post-Trump era.   Resource #1: A very few of us from the Olympia Coalition to Abolish Nuclear Weapons participated in a powerfully informative Zoom meeting that the Arms Control Association (www.armscontrol.org) conducted last week about “Nuclear Challenges for the Biden Administration in the First 100 Days” and the ACA’s related report.  You may download their report from their website at this link:  available for download Also, the ACA recorded their fascinating and informative Zoom meeting, […]

Biden should take these smart actions toward nuclear disarmament in his first 100 days

January 19, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

Trump radically escalated the dangers of nuclear war. Biden can reduce those dangers IF WE URGE BIDEN TO TAKE SMART ACTIONS.   This morning I was one of more than 400 persons who participated in a worldwide Zoom meeting conducted by the Arms Control Association (www.armscontrol.org).  They titled this event, “Nuclear Challenges for the Biden Administration in the First 100 Days.” They efficiently presented a lot of information from several experts.  They recorded the Zoom event and will post it to their website reasonably soon. Recently the Arms Control Association presented their new report, which was titled  he speakers will […]

Now 51 nations have ratified the U.N. treaty prohibiting nuclear weapons.

December 15, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

This blog’s “Nuclear Weapons” category has included a number of posts about the truly exciting, historic Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons” (TPNW).  Read those for background.  Now here is what’s new: In October 2020 Honduras became the 50th nation to ratify the treaty.  The treaty specifies that it will go into effect 90 days after the 50th nation has ratified it.  That means the TPNW will go into effect on January 22, 2021. The national level of Physicians for Social Responsibility (www.psr.org) celebrated the 50th ratification:  https://www.psr.org/blog/psr-celebrates-50-ratifications-for-the-ban-treaty/?emci=8508afcb-b313-eb11-96f5-00155d03affc&emdi=bc8e3199-9b18-eb11-96f5-00155d03bda0&ceid=135885 Currently 51 nations have ratified the Treaty.  More nations are making progress […]
