Support H. Res. 77 to support Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons

August 21, 2023 GlenAnderson 0

Most nations in the world want nations to ratify the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).  See www.icanw.org for more information about the Treaty. The U.S. and the other 8 nations that own nuclear weapons oppose the TPNW.  We have an uphill struggle to promote it.  Fortunately, three dozen House members have introduced H. Res. 77 to support the Treaty.  Here is some information. Please write to your U.S. House Representative and urge them to take the necessary step and co-sponsor H. Res 77! A smart organization is working on the “Back from the Brink” package of 5 […]

A Department of Actual Defense in a Time of Coronavirus

May 12, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

The U.S. wastes our tax dollars on militarism and nuclear weapons, when we should be funding better health. You cannot defeat Coronavirus with nuclear weapons or any kind of military violence. This article by David Swanson urges us to think differently – and to push our government to act more wisely and effectively: A Department of Actual Defense in a Time of Coronavirus By David Swanson https://davidswanson.org/a-department-of-actual-defense-in-a-time-of-coronavirus/

Democratic Party FAILS TO CHALLENGE Trump’s foreign policy!

July 31, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Many times every day now I receive e-mails from various parts of the Democratic Party asking me to donate money.  Their opening request invites me to choose my favorite presidential candidates — and sometimes to identify the issues that I care about the most. They list many DOMESTIC issues (jobs, gay rights, college debt, etc.), but ALMOST NEVER ASK ABOUT FOREIGN POLICY or the federal budget’s domination by military spending or the U.S.’s perpetual violations of human rights around the world. This implies that THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS WILLING TO GO ALONG WITH TRUMP’S FOREIGN POLICY! A few of these […]

Groups working to reduce gun violence ALWAYS NEGLECT to oppose war and military violence, which set the tone for gun violence within the U.S.

July 30, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Just now I responded to an e-mail survey sent out by a prominent nationwide non-profit org that works to reduce gun violence throughout the U.S. They asked what their top priority should be. I said they should work to stop all of the U.S.’s war’ and de-militarize our foreign policy. I told them that the U.S.’s addiction to war and military violence create a culture that assumes shooting people is a good way to solve problems. The U.S.’s persistent militarism sets the tone for gun violence within the U.S. This really is “the elephant in the room” that the anti-gun […]

U.S. govt’s “best and brightest” keep pushing us into unwinnable wars

September 22, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

For many decades U.S. foreign policy has been bi-partisan, reflecting the needs of U.S. business corporations around the world, and grounded in the myth of “entitlement” and “U.S. Exceptionalism,” the notions that the U.S. is unique in history in being the world’s ultimate savior, and therefore not bound by international law, and not subject to the constraints and realities that have confined other nations that were not the one Beacon of Liberty to save the world. The elite people who have shaped U.S. foreign policy for many decades share those assumptions, even if they have educations from elite universities and […]

Stop the Endless Wars. Repeal the 2001 AUMF.

July 27, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

For decades the Cold War allowed our nation’s militarists — and the weapons manufacturing corporations that fund them — to stampede the U.S. media and politicians and public into decades of recklessly wasteful military spending, including several wars and proxy wars and thousands of nuclear weapons.  They said that this is Priority #1, so we could not afford bold efforts to end poverty, take care of the environment, or do other crucial work. When the Cold War ended, those same vested interests — our nation’s militarists and the weapons manufacturers — and conservative elements that opposed solving our nation’s social […]

Here is how to link nuclear weapons with other hot issues

April 23, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

We are committed to vigorous grassroots organizing to abolish nuclear weapons. A smart strategy is to link this issue to other hot issues that people care about. I wrote – and am attaching – 3 flyers that accomplish this.  See these 3 links: Stop gun violence — Stop nuclear weapons Climate crisis and nuclear weapons are two existential threats.docx Many scientists oppose nuclear weapons We could replicate this kind of strategy for other issues we are working on. I printed hundreds of copies and handed out (and recruited some other volunteers to hand out) a great many copies of the […]

Despite Trump’s behavioral distractions, he is accomplishing MUCH — but the WRONG stuff!

January 30, 2018 GlenAnderson 0

Powerful interests run their agenda on two tracks: 1. For public consumption, they say nice propaganda, platitudes, etc., and they also put out a carnival of entertainment, scandal, eye candy, etc. 2. Meanwhile, apart from public view they do horrible things. So, for example, while LBJ and Nixon kept saying they wanted peace in Vietnam, they actually were escalating the war. Trump promised jobs, promised to “drain the swamp,” etc., but he has been doing the opposite. Both parties do this, and so does big business with “greenwashing” advertising campaigns while they hurt the environment. We must pay attention to […]

To watch this interview, click HERE. To read a summary more thorough than the brief summary below, click Program Description — March 2014 The Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation’s March 2014 TV program “connects the dots” between three serious issues: nuclear weapons, nuclear power, and the climate crisis. The program also explores how human beings deal with – or avoid dealing with – these serious issues. Bernie Meyer is our guest for this hour because he deals with substantive issues in fresh ways, and with wisdom and with profound humanity. The specific context for this month’s program is that Bernie had […]

TV: “Militarism Is the Problem, Not the Solution”

November 20, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

During mid-2014, Thurston Community Television (TCTV, www.tctv.net) was replacing its production equipment, so we repeated a great program that we had aired in November 2012 and was still fully relevant now in 2014 — and up to the current day. To watch this 1-hour interview, click HERE. To read the brief summary below in .pdf format, click Program Description — August 2014. Since World War II – and especially since the Soviet Union collapsed more than 20 year ago – the US has been the world’s #1 military power. And, indeed, the US has used that military power continuously since […]

TV: “100 Years of FOR’s Bold Nonviolent Work for Peace and Justice”

November 17, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

The Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation’s October 2015 TV program celebrates highlights about the FOR’s 100 years of accomplishments in the United States. The national FOR has accomplished much, but usually has been too modest about promoting itself. The FOR works well with other organizations and wants to accomplish good work, regardless of who gets the credit for doing it. As a result, although the FOR is not very well known, it has actually accomplished quite a lot during the past 100 years. This TV program highlights only a few of the fascinating pieces of the past 100 years, but we […]

TV: “De-Militarize U.S. Foreign Policy”

November 16, 2017 GlenAnderson 0

The Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation’s October 2016 TV program critiques U.S. foreign policy, especially how – instead of providing national security – the U.S.’s military violence actually makes us less secure! The program also helps us understand why the government keeps using military violence. In our daily lives we know that violence is wrong and counter-productive, but the U.S. government routinely threatens and uses military violence all over the world. At the end of this hour we propose nonviolent and socially just ways to achieve more profound, holistic “security” not only for our nation, but for the entire world. You […]
