Betty Bowers publicly stated: “Texas doesn’t have a hotline if you see a man go into a kindergarten with an AR-15, but it does have a hotline if you see a woman go into a Planned Parenthood parking lot with her car.” The Republican-dominated government of Texas does not seem to understand the irony — or appreciate women’s rights.

The “conventional wisdom” wants you to think that long prison sentences make the rest of us safe. That is NOT true. I support good “truth and reconciliation commissions,” such as the one that South Africa did. Some other nations have done them too superficially to be useful. In the 1950s when I was growing up, I remember at home we had a SOLAR and WIND clothes dryer. It used no fossil fuels and no electricity. Dad built it in the 1940s. Mom operated it for decades. It was called a “clothesline.” Every home’s back yard had one. It was an upright metal pole with a smaller horizontal metal crossbar at the top. 30 to 40 feet away was another one with the same design. Some governmental bodies (legislatures, local governments, etc.) begin with official prayers. Often those are required by conservative politicians. Those conservatives typically oppose “Big Government.” Ironically, they want “Big Government” to force us to pray in certain ways. Not only does that blatantly contradict their opposition to “Big Government” oppressing us, but it also blatantly undermines legitimate religion.
