In Feb. 2019 young people urged U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein to help the climate, but SHE REBUFFED THEM!

November 9, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

In February 2019 Brave New Films (www.bravenewfilms.org) reported this: Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein’s reaction when a group of kids showed up at her office to ask her to back the #GreenNewDeal shows how dangerously out of touch the establishment is. We met up with these young leaders to get their response… Watch this 2-minute video of the U.S. senator rebuffing the young people:  https://www.facebook.com/bravenewfilms/videos/2212412422356629/     Another short video of this horribly patronizing response by a Democratic U.S. Senator: This very short video a group of young people try to convince Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein to support the Green New […]

Geo-Engineering to ease the climate crisis is RECKLESSLY DANGEROUS and a DISTRACTION from real solutions!

November 9, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Beware of climate “geo-engineering” plan to block the sun: I read this article in the magazine’s print version (to which I have subscribed for many decades). Now they offer it online too.  We need a variety of strong actions to protect the climate. But some “geo-engineering” proposals are reckless and would likely cause side-effects and unknown consequences that could be as bad as the climate crisis itself. Some people are actually proposing these reckless schemes. This article discusses the proposal to launch things into the atmosphere to block out the sun:  http://inthesetimes.com/features/geoengineering-climate-change-fossil-fuel-industry-srm-indigenous-activism.html?link_id=2&can_id=1d662460c0abb8939c5044c82927552b&source=email-inside-geoengineers-risky-plan-to-block-out-the-sun-sanders-and-harris-fall-short-on-abolishing-money-bail&email_referrer=email_455098&email_subject=inside-geoengineers-risky-plan-to-block-out-the-sun-sanders-and-harris-fall-short-on-abolishing-money-bail   U.S. Blocks U.N. Fossil fuel companies have been deceiving us and denying their climate crisis

November 9, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

The Koch brothers made billions from oil companies — and they have vigorously funded climate denialism.  See this information from www.ClimateHawksVote.com — and sign the PETITION below this information: “At the center of the Koch brothers’ vast network of wealth and influence is their funding of university programs and other quasi-scientific-sounding organizations promoting climate denial. In the past 10 years alone, Koch funding for university programs has quadrupled to more than $60 million annually, at 50+ schools — with no sign of slowing down. “Koch Industries has built their fortune thanks to fossil fuels. They’ve spent millions to lobby against […]

Media bias INTERFERES WITH solving the climate crisis

November 9, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

The Establishment (fossil fuel companies, big business, the “consumer culture,” economic elites, and BOTH of the big political parties) caused the climate crisis. Mainstream (corporate-owned) media — as always — played along as the mouthpiece for the corrupt Establishment. In order to solve the climate crisis, ORDINARY PEOPLE MUST PUSH BACK against big business, against government, and against mainstream media.   Weather reports — and news reports about extreme weather — keep assuming that extreme weather is merely an “act of God” and ALMOST NEVER mention that decades of fossil fuel pollution and climate disruption have caused it. Even Seattle’s […]

The Climate Crisis is ALSO a SOCIAL JUSTICE issue!

November 9, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Some people think of issues as if each was in a separate “silo” unrelated to other issues.  Actually, issues are very deeply and strongly interrelated.  For example, the Climate Crisis is ALSO a SOCIAL JUSTICE issue. This insight should not only broaden our understanding of the climate crisis, but it should also help us strategize more insightfully to reach out and connect the climate crisis with other issues.  We should bring various kinds of people into the climate movement AND bring climate organizers into the movements working on other social justice issues.     This November 21, 2017, article at […]

How to pay for the Green New Deal

November 8, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Today I posted information from February 7-8-9, 2019, when the Green New Deal resolutions were introduced in Congress.  Those early posts explained why we need the Green New Deal.  Cautious people (and opponents) will ask how to pay for it.  Actually, progressives were ALREADY proposing ways to pay for it BEFORE the House and Senate resolutions were introduced. Here are some VERY EARLY articles that make good economic sense:   Ellen Brown (perhaps our nation’s greatest expert on publicly owned banks) urges public banks as a way to fund a Green New Deal.  Her December 2018 article at the following […]

Green New Deal: Origins and federal legislation

November 8, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

In late 2018 people started talking about the basic ideas that were developed into the February 2019 federal legislation for a Green New Deal — a fairly comprehensive framework that would promote: Bold actions to protect the environment and climate New “green” jobs with good wages Improvements for local communities, housing, infrastructure, etc. And more FDR’s New Deal in the 1930s addressed a variety of issues in positive ways.  Likewise, the Green New Deal would do that nowadays with special emphasis on benefiting the environment and climate.   I will post information to my blog about creative ways to fund […]

Olympia’s people want to CUT the Pentagon budget and INCREASE funding to serve human and environmental needs!

November 5, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Twice in late summer 2019 the Olympia Coalition to Abolish Nuclear Weapons organized and staffed information tables at public events. Six jars were labeled with different possible uses for our federal budget. We handed each visitor a stack of ten pennies and invited them to put the pennies into the various jars to show how the visitor would choose to spend the federal budget. The results (listed below) were similar for both events, except “Environment and climate” and “Health care” exchanged places for 1st and 2nd priorities. Military has rated lowest priority every time I have conducted this game over […]

Trump is waging a new war for oil in northern Syria. Sign petition to Congress.

November 5, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

See this article:  https://www.juancole.com/2019/10/province-kurdish-displacement.html       Sign petition to tell Congress:  Deploying troops in Syria to “protect oil” is unconstitutional. On October 24, 2019, Just Foreign Policy (www.justforeignpolicy.org) sent this information.  See the end for a link to click so you can sign the petition to Congress. President Trump now claims that his “justification” for keeping U.S. troops at the al-Tanf base in southern Syria – where they will be protecting zero Kurdish civilians, who live in northern Syria – is to “protect oil.” This is unconstitutional, because Congress never authorized it. Under Article I of the Constitution and […]

Trump’s new war for oil in northern Syria

October 26, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

Trump keeps screwing up. Trump keeps deceiving people. Everything he does is only for his own benefit. He fooled some people into thinking he was withdrawing troops from Syria as a matter of a principled peace policy.  Actually, he was screwing our allies in his “America First” isolationism — except that he is really abusing our foreign and military policies in order to help his pals Erdogan (the brutal authoritarian who runs Turkey) and Putin (’nuff said!) and in order to pursue a war for oil in Northern Syria. See this:  https://www.juancole.com/2019/10/province-kurdish-displacement.html   No, Trump Isn’t Bringing US Troops Home […]

Chris Hedges wrote about “The Age of Radical Evil”

Chris Hedges keeps writing articles that are powerfully insightful and wise. His articles connect the dots across a number of issues. They are very much worth reading. Here is one from October 2019: https://www.truthdig.com/articles/the-age-of-radical-evil/

This thoughtful, informative article supports the Green New Deal as sensible economics and good for the climate

October 26, 2019 GlenAnderson 0

This article compares the Green New Deal with FDR’s original New Deal. It sees similarities with the Great Depression, but also differences. (For example, the Great Depression was the overriding single issue that dominated national discussion, and nobody denied the existence of the Great Depression, in contrast to the rich, powerful “deniers” of the climate crisis.) Let’s draw upon another similarity. The article says, “The New Deal was made possible by mass movements of insurgent industrial workers, the unemployed, farmers facing foreclosure and ruin, urban dwellers facing eviction, and small businessmen facing extinction, among others.” A few paragraphs later the […]
