Many non-profit organizations are urging President Biden to take smart actions. I have collected some recent ones here. You might want to provide your own name and contact information and click to send. For a few of these you may remove my name and contact information and substitute your own. Also, you can contact President Biden through the White House website — www.whitehouse.gov/contact/ — or through the White House phone switchboard — (202) 456-1414 Grassroots pressure has produced positive governmental actions on some issues. Let’s keep it going! Human rights, democracy, and peace for Myanmar (traditionally known as Burma): On […]

On March 10, 2021, I spoke to a worldwide audience (about 1/3 in the U.S. and Canada, about 1/3 in Europe, and about 1/3 in other continents) as the featured speaker for their organization’s speaker series. I spoke about “Re-Thinking National Security.” They recorded this Zoom event. You can watch it at this link: https://ubiverse.org/documents/humanity-rising-day-201—recording Also, I am attaching an essay I wrote that is that is similar to what I said during the speaking engagement. You can read my essay at this link: Re-Thinking ‘National Security’ — An Essay in 3 Parts
Most of us receive many e-mails urging us to take online actions to tell a governmental or business entity what to do. These are especially urgent now in early March 2021 about several different issues. #1: Tell Congress to pass a special tax on extremely rich people. Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Pramila Jayapal just announced their bold plan to pass a wealth tax. They’re going to need our help to pass it. Billionaires made more than $900 billion during the pandemic. Warren’s plan would create a two percent tax on assets over $50 million dollars, which would generate $2.75 […]
This information came from www.americansfortaxfairness.org: Elizabeth Warren’s wealth tax is here! And it’s exactly what we need to start creating jobs and rebuilding our communities ― pulling us out of this pandemic-caused recession. The Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act ― introduced this week by Senator Warren as well as Representatives Pramila Jayapal and Brendan Boyle ― would place a two-cent tax on every dollar of wealth between $50 million and $1 billion, and a three-cent tax on every dollar of wealth over $1 billion. It’ll raise $3 trillion over 10 years from the richest 0.05% and allow us to invest in […]
The March 2021 interview on “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV series features two teenagers discussing the climate crisis, sharing their experiences and insights, and urging smart actions. The March 2021 episode of “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV series (also watchable on your computer) helps us move ahead toward solving the climate crisis. It helps people of all ages understand why young people are so deeply concerned – and it informs us of some of the positive ways teenagers are taking action. Our guests are two juniors at Capital High School in Olympia, Washington. Both have been climate activists for perhaps two years […]
When Trump goes to his properties (Mar a Lago, etc.) to play golf, the taxpayers pay to fly Air Force One, and the taxpayers PAY TRUMP to house and feed his huge entourage of Secret Service officers, presidential staffers, etc., to stay in his overpriced hotels and eat overpriced meals there. Trump rips off the taxpayers VERY OFTEN for this purpose. The Constitution prohibits this: The “emoluments” clause EXPLICITLY PROHIBITS using presidential power for personal enrichment, but the House Democrats REFUSED to impeach Trump for this blatantly unconstitutional crime. Washington Post confirms that Trump has charged the US a […]
You are invited to join the Backbone Campaign’s MMT 4 part series: Modern Monetary Theory Study Group Join our 4-part study group on Modern Monetary Theory, Mondays at 4:30pm Pacific / 7:30pm Eastern One of the best experts on Monetary Theory (MMT) is Stephanie Kelton, who has written extenstively about it. Search the web for her name and MMT. She summarized MMT by saying, “it is about replacing an artificial revenue constraint with a real inflation constraint. So there are limits. But the limit is not a predetermined numerical level or a percentage of the budget. There is no strict […]
Big business corrupts BOTH political parties! Big business donated a lot to Trump’s inaugural events and seems ready to donate to Biden’s too. WE MUST STOP THAT CORRUPTION! I encourage you to promptly SIGN THIS PETITION urging Biden’s Inaugural Committee to REJECT corporate donations: https://actionnetwork.org/forms/sign-the-petition-urge-the-biden-presidential-inaugural-committee-to-reject-corporate-donations?source=20201216NoCorpInaugDon_PA&referrer=group-progress-america&redirect=https://secure.actblue.com/donate/corporations&link_id=0&refcodeEmailReferrer=email_1030961&can_id=1d662460c0abb8939c5044c82927552b&email_referrer=email_1030961&email_subject=sign-now-no-corporate-contributions-for-a-virtual-inauguration
The January 2021 interview on “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV program will help YOU make progress on the issues YOU care about. Many of our nation’s problems had existed for a very long time. These include racial injustice, economic inequality, environmental problems, a foreign policy that is both cruel and violent, and some dysfunctional aspects of our electoral systems. From 2017 through 2020, Trump made these and other problems even worse. Really, this goes beyond partisanship. Many of our nation’s problems are long-standing and bi-partisan. The American people have values that are better, wiser, more compassionate, and more progressive than either of […]
We need to keep protesting against the cruelty, corruption, injustice and violence that continually assault us. But if we spend most of our time and efforts fighting the bad stuff, the oppressors will continue to have the upper hand because they can keep throwing bad stuff at us and we will always be on the defensive. We need to spend most of our time and efforts taking the initiative to organize for the positive goals that we want instead. We need to be proactive, envision the future we want instead of the current mess, and organize to achieve the positive […]
For many decades Washington State has had THE MOST REGRESSIVE tax system of any state in the nation. This means RICH PEOPLE PAY FAR LESS THAN THEIR SHARE — and POOR AND WORKING CLASS PEOPLE PAY FAR MORE THAN THEIR SHARE. Washington is one of just a very few states with no income tax. (Decades ago the state Supreme Court said it would be unconstitutional.) Instead, we rely very heavily on the sales tax. Poor and working class people spend nearly all of their money, so they pay a lot of sales tax, while rich people put more of their […]
We keep seeing various articles documenting various ways in which Trump is cruel, corrupt, incompetent, etc. Recently two reputable national magazines focused entire issues on compiling such articles. They are powerful resources. I recommend them highly. The July-August 2020 issue of Mother Jones focused especially on Trump’s extreme mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic. The front cover says: “PLAGUED: Grift, Greed, Gaslighting: A Special Report on Trump’s COVID Corruption.” Read it here: https://www.motherjones.com/mag/2020/07/toc/ The October-November 2020 issue of The Progressive contains many articles on a wide variety of Trump’s terrible public policies and other actions. It documents his cruelty, corruption, and […]
“How to Deal With the U.S.’s Current Crises” October 2020 Our nation is suffering from several extremely serious problems all at once. The crises are deeply rooted and actually go beyond individual elected officials and political parties. Problems include the COVID-19 pandemic, economic injustices, homelessness, excessive military spending, racial injustices, the criminal justice system, unfairness to immigration, right-wing extremism, the climate crisis, nuclear weapons, and Trumpism. Instead of merely lamenting “ain’t-it-awful,” three guests (Jean Gant Delastrada, Liz Moore, and Glen Gersmehl) provide smart insights into those problems and lift up some positive values that can help us solve them. We […]
