April 1, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

We are always the underdogs in working for the issues we care about.   These FREE online workshops really can strengthen our skills and strategies so we can make truly significant progress on ALL of the issues you care about! Nonviolent grassroots organizing has been proven to be effective, but people – even experienced activists – could make much more progress by strengthening our skills.  This series of workshops (“Nonviolent Grassroots Organizing”) really can help! ALL OF US — new people, experienced organizers, and everybody in between — can STRENGTHEN OUR SKILLS and add resources to our “toolboxes” so we can […]

“Economic Justice and a Strong Social Safety Net”

March 31, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

In case I did not post this TV interview before, here it is now:   “Economic Justice and a Strong Social Safety Net” The August 2020 interview on “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” TV series helps us understand some of the realities of people who experience poverty.  Three guests with first-hand experience explore problems and solutions. We provide insights about poverty and welfare from the 1930s to today.  We replace the myths and misunderstandings with valid information and smart insights.  We discuss larger economic and political contexts and nitty-gritty realities in local welfare offices.  We affirm the need for “welfare rights” and […]

Legal Rights for Nature: See these videos and articles

March 25, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

The concept of recognizing legal rights for nature is growing worldwide.  Here are some recent resources:   My January 2022 TV interview makes a solid case that is easy to understand.  You may watch the TV interview video and/or read the thorough summary I typed up with links to additional information.  Here is the link:  https://parallaxperspectives.org/lets-recognize-legal-rights-for-nature   The progressive populist Jim Hightower wrote this article recently:  https://hightowerlowdown.org/article/give-nature-a-seat-at-the-governing-table-rights-of-nature/   Panama made good progress on this recently:  https://insideclimatenews.org/news/25022022/panama-rights-of-nature/?utm_source=InsideClimate+News&utm_campaign=e4567a0b00-&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_29c928ffb5-e4567a0b00-329402989   A brief introduction to this video says this: “Western views and the legal system tend to view nature as property, and as a […]

World Citizenship — See fascinating information here

March 22, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

The April 2022 interview on “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” provides fresh insights and a creative alternative that can get the whole world unstuck from nationalistic antagonisms and endless wars. Wars have raged for thousands of years of wars, but they have never produced lasting peace.  The promoters of World War I promised that it would be “the war to end all wars.”  Have we had a century of peace since 1918? When we are chronically stuck in a dysfunctional system, we need to challenge the long-standing assumptions.  We need to think creatively – “think outside the box” – and choose positive […]

The Poor People’s Campaign is excellent at the national level and our statewide level.

February 24, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

More and more non-profit organizations that work on important issues (peace, climate, human rights, economic justice, etc.) are aligning themselves with the Poor People’s Campaign.  Some organizations are formally deciding to become “Mobilizing Partners.”  Our Olympia Coalition to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, our statewide anti-nuclear coalition, 350 Seattle, several parts of the Fellowship of Reconciliation, and many, many other organizations are doing this. This is a good way to work for economic justice, racial justice, and a range of issues.  It is a good way for single-issue groups to make alliances with other organizations across issues and with diverse constituencies.   […]

Insights into “climate deniers” and effective ways to deal with them

February 22, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

A strong majority of Americans are concerned about the climate crisis.  Some people are “climate deniers” or “climate skeptics.”  Some of these people have been fooled by fossil fuel company propaganda and/or right-wing propaganda.  Some simply do not understand the scientific realities. Those of us who care about the climate want to build the grassroots movement to protect the climate.  Some climate supporters are frustrated, flummoxed, or depressed by the “deniers” and “skeptics” who are polluting mass media, confusing the public, and preventing governments from solving problems. I have seen several recent articles that can help us understand those people […]

“Opportunity Zones” did NOT much help poor communities. They were another scam to give the rich another tax loophole.

January 29, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

Powerful interests rip off the general public in order to serve powerful interests. The public wants to end poverty and help poor communities, but the government created “opportunity zones” that — instead of doing what they were purported to do — actually enrich businesses and rip off taxpayers. See the article at this link: Paul Constant, ‘Opportunity zones’ meant to boost poor communities did little more than give the rich another tax loophole, Business Insider. The Trump tax cuts could serve as a watershed moment for trickle-down precisely because they prove the fallacy at the heart of the idea that […]

Look at what politicians & powerful people ACTUALLY DO. Don’t be fooled by their glib platitudes.

January 29, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

Politicians, businesses, and other powerful sources keep doing bad things but try to fool people by saying glib platitudes.  Do NOT believe at face value what they say.  Look at what they ACTUALLY DO. For four years the U.S. was ruled by someone who said he would “Make America Great.”  His actual policies did the opposite. Politicians and businesses keep saying things that the people want to hear, but their actual policies violate the public’s interests. Platitudes and hypocrisies have been around for a very long time.  Jesus kept denouncing people who kept trying to impress people with their religiosity, […]

Martin Luther King urged a “Radical Revolution of Values” — Learn about this here.

January 17, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

Our society and our whole world are in several serious crises all at once. Powerful forces keep making things worse.  They want to intimidate us — to make us sit down and shut up so they can continue to oppress us. But better values do exist, and nonviolence is actually more powerful than The Establishment.  (My free online workshop series “Nonviolent Grassroots Organizing” helps us understand and use nonviolence in clever, strategic ways.)  Ever since the Civil Rights Movement’s era, I have appreciated Martin Luther King’s strong, bold, radical message and his methodology.  I have read his books and studied […]

Martin Luther King recognized very serious problems, but he remained hopeful. We can be hopeful too — and keep pushing ahead!

January 17, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

The people reading this blog know a lot about the many problems — the many VERY SERIOUS problems — that endanger our world, our nation, and ourselves. It would be easy to sink into cynicism and despair.  Powerful forces want us to do that and to give up. But even while Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., recognized the horrible problems, he remained hopeful that we can indeed solve the problems.  We also need to stay hopeful — and stay strategically focused and active — until we win. I appreciate King’s “Testament of Hope.”  It still sounds as relevant today […]

Minimum wage is trapped too low. CEO/worker pay gap increases widely.

January 17, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

For many years Congress has refused to raise the minimum wage. Many states refuse to raise their minimum wage above the federal minimum. Meanwhile, extremely rich people have gotten extremely more rich. Rich people and big businesses fund Congressional candidates’ campaigns. We must get Big Money out of election campaigns. And we need the news media to report more vigorously on the horrible inequality between extremely rich people and everybody else. See this powerful image about the VERY LOW federal minimum wage and the EXTREMELY HIGH INCOMES of corporate executives: (It is safe to open this image, even if you […]

Let’s Recognize Legal Rights for Nature

January 2, 2022 GlenAnderson 0

The January 2022 episode of “Glen’s Parallax Perspectives” provides a fresh perspective — and proposes a fresh solution — for some environmental problems that are serious but are not being solved by conventional methods. Glen Anderson interviewed two experts — Kai Huschke and Elliott Moffett — who have savvy insights and practical experience working to protect environments and establish legal rights for nature. Very often, when people want to protect the environment by filing appeals in governmental hearings or in courts, the environmentalists’ cases are dismissed because – even though the environment is being hurt – those individuals themselves are […]
