We need PEACE instead of provoking war with Russia.

November 7, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

As soon as the Russian Revolution occurred in 1917, the U.S. treated that nation as an enemy.  Although the Soviet Union was an ally with the U.S. in opposing Nazi Germany, when Japan was ready to surrender in 1945, the U.S. unnecessarily dropped two atomic bombs on Japan — partly in order to intimidate the Soviet Union.  For many decades from 1945 until the USSR collapsed in 1991, the U.S. kept treating that nation as an enemy with whom we were locked in a Cold War that was ready at any moment to destroy the entire world with nuclear weapons.  […]

NPR’s 14-minute program about healing U.S.’s divisions through truth and reconciliation commissions

September 9, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

I have not yet listened to this, but I want to share it with you in case you might find it interesting and useful. I support good “truth and reconciliation commissions,” such as the one that South Africa did. Some other nations have done them too superficially to be useful. Canada did good work regarding their First Nations, and they produced significant accomplishments.   https://www.npr.org/2020/10/11/922849505/healing-u-s-divides-through-truth-and-reconciliation-commissions?emci=61063094-bd0f-eb11-96f5-00155d03affc&emdi=d2d85586-7410-eb11-96f5-00155d03affc&ceid=882844

These fresh insights can help us speak more convincingly about the climate — even to conservatives.

July 4, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

These three resources can greatly increase our effectiveness when talking about the climate — including how to reach conservatives:     We can move conservatives to support the climate if we use the right kinds of wording and messaging: We can move conservatives to support the climate if we use the right kinds of wording and messaging.  Banging away on the facts won’t change the minds of people who refuse to support smart climate actions.  For the climate – just as for other issues – we need to “frame” the issue and use the kinds of wording and messaging that […]

Resolving conflicts nonviolently: Here are several resources.

July 4, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

For many years I have appreciated — and used the methodology of — Marshall Rosenberg’s “Nonviolent Communication” as a way to resolve conflicts and move forward.  You can learn more by reading his book titled Nonviolent Communication and by searching the web for that title and for his name.  Also see some of his helpful YouTube videos.  Years ago he came to Olympia twice, and I went to hear him each time. Here is a useful quotation from him: “Three factors in why some of us respond violently and some of us compassionately in similar situations: The language we have […]

Yes, we really can RE-DESIGN public safety away from typical policing! See many resources here!

May 3, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

Finally — after many decades of trying to raise the issue — the general public (including a majority of white people) finally understands that our traditional methods of policing are ENDANGERING rather than protecting public safety.  The systemic racial injustices have become so obvious that the public is willing to consider alternatives to the long-standing status quo. Some localities have been experimenting successfully with fresh, humane, sensible, and cost-saving alternatives. HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES AND OTHER RESOURCES: This substantive proposal came from the National Urban League: On April 26, 2021, the National Urban League released a comprehensive framework for criminal […]

April 26, 2021 GlenAnderson 0

NEW YORK (April 26, 2021) — The National Urban League today released a comprehensive framework for criminal justice advocacy that takes a holistic approach to public safety, the restoration of trust between communities and law enforcement, and a path forward for meaningful change. 21 Pillars for Redefining Public Safety and Restoring Community Trust centers on five key themes that are fundamental to the protection and preservation of life, dignity, and trust, while also building safer communities. “For too long the lives, safety, and freedom of communities around the nation, particularly Black communities, have been threatened by discriminatory and violent policing,” National Urban […]

Biden should take these steps for peace.

December 15, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

The U.S.’s foreign policy has been provoking people into becoming terrorists.  We need to push Biden into boldly changing that persistent pattern.  If the Biden administration really wants to stop fueling chaos and terrorism in the world, it must radically transform the CIA.  https://www.nationofchange.org/2020/12/14/will-bidens-america-stop-creating-terrorists/   Sign petition urging Biden to End Trump’s Coercive Measures Against the International Criminal Court: The International Criminal Court has been investigating the actions of all parties to the war in Afghanistan and potentially investigating Israel’s actions in Palestine.  Trump has always refused to be held accountable for his crimes and other mistakes.  This is consistent with the U.S. […]

December 15, 2020 GlenAnderson 0

It urges Biden to cut it:  https://www.juancole.com/2020/11/pentagon-couldnt-pandemic.html   If President Biden is Smart, He’ll End America’s Forever Wars and Pour the Money into Jobs at Home:  https://www.juancole.com/2020/11/president-americas-forever.html   Joe Biden plans to appoint a board member of a giant military weapons manufacturer to be Secretary of Defense!  Biden, who has a long history as a supporter of wars and big business, is reportedly planning to appoint a member of one of the U.S.’s biggest corporations manufacturing military weapons to be Secretary of Defense.  We need to “drain the swamp,” not make it swampier, as Trump […]
